( Dear Santa... )
Quizzes, and a confession.
Nov. 3rd, 2005 02:42 pmGod, I am so bored.
This first quiz, I stole from
akscully. As those close to me know, algebra was my favorite kind of math, and there was a lot of algebra here. But I surprised even myself! To be perfectly honest, I wasn't sure about two of the answers (they were two that didn't actually involve problem solving). But yay for guessing!
( I can pass 8th-grade math, w00t! )
This next one was stolen from
ropo. I liked it because it's one of the more unusual quizzes I've seen, and who doesn't like dice?
( I'm a d20! )
I forgot to mention earlier that I made my mom cry last night. I didn't mean to! I'd just been trying to feed Talis, and he wouldn't eat. He kept looking around, probably wondering where my mom was. When I told this to her, she unexpectedly burst into tears! I had thought to make her feel glad that he missed her, and instead she was sad. Oops. And of course, right after I hung up with her, he ate every bit of kibble in his bowl. He's so the devil.

LJ friends quiz & House
Oct. 6th, 2005 09:04 am( The LJ Friends quiz thingy. I swear to God you'd think *I* created some of the questions just to be amusing. But I didn't. )
Also, of course last night House got serialized for me. I watched four episodes in a row, and had to force myself to stop. Why did they have to do it? I was so happy with the arrangement before. This is all old news to most of you, of course, but it's brand new to me. ( Watch me flip out. )

Does anyone know whether high-speed Internet access through cable is the same as DSL with regard to routers/wireless connectivity? See, I have DSL now, and a wireless router, and I love it. But at the new place, I was thinking I'd cut out the necessity of a land line, and use cable broadband instead of DSL ... only, I don't know if this would affect the wireless part. I don't think it would be worth switching if it meant that I'd lose my wireless capabilities (at least, without having to pay them to do it for me).
The packing is going very well. And it's all due to
ropo and
jade_okelani, who have been phenomenal. There are many boxes packed, and I've only done like two of them. Sadly, the place still looks far from empty. *weeps* I don't know what happened to Robbie or who this imposter is in her place, but she has been downright organizational and all proactive and stuff. She yells at me for not labeling boxes correctly. She banned me from playing WoW until more things have been packed. (Going ... into ... withdrawal ...) But she frightens me most when she adopts an Australian accent and demands that I have to cut what I own (mainly books) by "hauff." She claims she's imitating some guy from one of those decorating/home improvement shows ... but I just don't know. Given everything else, she might actually be that guy in disguise.
And in the best news ever, I am a SERGEANT! PH34R ME, LOWBIES!!! Of course, I have not been able to prance around with my new rank at all, given the banning and everything. :'(
And to no one's surprise... ( I am a Pure Nerd. )

tales from the procrastinating
Aug. 8th, 2005 01:19 pmI find coming up with a headline and lede for an article is nearly as difficult/time consuming as writing the article itself. I can sit around and wibble about it for HOURS, constantly changing the wording, tweaking this or that, and meanwhile my deadline looms ever nearer and I'm still unhappy with it. And then what happens? My editor changes it anyway and makes it actually GOOD, so there's no reason for me to have wasted all that time in the first place. But it doesn't matter, I never learn, I keep doing it. I'm doing it as we speak. *headdesk*
This weekend, I began Nickle and Dimed, which was a book I was v. interested in reading, and yet never started, allowing it to accumulate dust on my book shelf. It's really good if a bit dated now, though while reading I am alternately shocked/amazed/depressed/ashamed. If you've read it you probably know why re: that combination of emotions. I'm about 3/4 of the way through, so I'll have more to say about it when I'm actually done.
I decided to bite the bullet and participate in the D/G Fic Exchange (link in my last post). I've been wanting to write something -- a one-shot -- in recent days, but haven't been particularly motivated to start something. I'm hoping this will do the trick.
( My HP personality. I refuse to believe that the reason he's my favorite character is because he reminds me of me. )
In WoW news, Jade and I are completely obsessed with Warsong Gulch. It's like crack. After many games, we've even made up (in like 10 seconds, so there's no scientific strategem to this) what we think would be the best grouping of 10 in a WSG team, ( and they are... )

Geeky grammar quiz!
Feb. 28th, 2005 10:28 pmGacked from
fearthainn:
The Commonly Confused Words Test
Advanced
You scored 100% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 93% Advanced, and 72% Expert!
You have an extremly good understanding of beginner, intermediate, and advanced level commonly confused English words, getting at least 75% of each of these three levels's questions correct. This is an exceptional score. Remember, these are commonly confused English words, which means most people don't use them properly. You got an extremely respectable score.
Compared to users who took the test and are and in your age group:
100% had lower Beginner scores.
100% had lower Intermediate scores.
100% had lower Advanced scores.
100% had lower Expert scores.
** I love geeky grammar quizzes like this -- however, what I don't like is that she doesn't actually tell you the right answers after it's over. IMHO some of them were rather poorly written, and it was unclear whether capitalization played a role in whether an answer was correct or not, etc. So, yeah. Bring a grain of salt with you.

manifestos, fables, pies, and quizzes
Feb. 8th, 2005 11:11 amJade and I finished (on time, even!) our manifesto for the Lex/Lana ship, and it's now posted at
ship_manifesto. Direct link is here if you're interested in taking a peek. If you're a L/L fan, why wouldn't you? And if you're not, aren't you curious as to why we'd ship that ship of all things? <g>
I've been playing Fable on my Xbox. It was slow going at first, but now I'm really into it. I'm so hot! (Even if, apparently, mute.) So the draw of the game is that there are supposedly a ton of different roads you can take your character down, depending on what you want your fate to be. So far my bar is leaning toward evil, because I've been making decisions based on how I think Draco would make them. :)) There's even a section in your personality profile on sexuality (so far for me, it's on "unknown"). There's this stat, "number of people you've had sex with" -- so far, it's at 0. My dude's a hot warrior virgin. I've been trying to get him laid, but either a) the girl wants a wedding ring; or b) she's like, "Let's go to the inn," only I can't find the bloody inn. I swear, I have such a guy mentality when I'm playing (i.e., "ANY GIRL WILL DO!"). I'm about to let him try and woo one of the guys who keep giving him the heart. Maybe they'll put out. You can also buy houses and stuff, while going on quests and what not. It's like World of Warcraft meets The Sims. :))
So I have this weakness for pie. And everyone knows that Marie Callender's has the absolute BEST pie crust. It's too bad (or really good, I suppose) that there's not a MC near me. Anyway, so I was going to make pecan pie the other day (hey
significantowl, how big is the can of condensed milk supposed to be?), and when I went to the frozen foods section, I saw that MC has finally come out with their own frozen pie shells! Squeee! And they're the yum. Not quite as good as the kind they serve in their restaurants, but I wouldn't expect or want them to be, really (surely freshness should count for something). And it's still yummier than the other pie shells available. <333 Ooh, so okay, other than their fresh fruit pies, my absolute favorite MC pie is banana cream ... and here is (supposedly) a copycat recipe: http://www.recipezaar.com/89973. I am so ridiculously excited.
( That's right, I'm a Slytherpuff. PH34R ME. Be not fooled by the cute name. All other Slytherpuff brothers and sisters, unite!!! )

quzzies, a coupon, and a D/G love poem
Jan. 18th, 2005 02:13 pm( The definitions of things -- quiz results. )
Look, a Borders coupon for 25% off! Go nuts! Expires 1/23.
( And now, for something a little different ... a D/G love poem. )

Much gacking.
Jan. 10th, 2005 01:39 amDo I get my membership in the Adults club revoked if I say, "I don't wanna go to bed?" Well, I don't wanna go to bed. The longer I stay up, the farther away work is. Don't try and argue with my logic!
Look at this hot pic of Draco and Ginny that
tiny_q drew!! But make sure there are no kiddies around first, because GINNY SEEMS TO HAVE FORGOTTEN HER TOP. Scandalous! :D
My flight was delayed by an hour and a half yesterday, which gave me plenty of time to read/finish Every Boy's Got One. ( Slight spoilers. )
I have just cut myself while preparing food. There is now a ragged flap of skin over my knuckle, where smooth, unmarred skin used to be. Gross.
( Which HP boy I'm made for. As if there was any doubt. :D )
( The movie lines meme. Recognize any? )

Here's the girl's LJ.

So frightening. I mean, I know people, teenagers especially, have issues with their mothers ... I certainly did ... but to bear your own mom that much hatred? Ugh, it's so creepy that she had an LJ. (Though the people who have been commenting there since the incident are terrible ... terribly funny. I know I shouldn't laugh, but some of them are so awful I just can't help it.)
And yet, in a blatant contradiction, Heavenly Creatures is one of my favorite films.
To lighten things up a tad... ( a quiz: What literature classic I am. It's so accurate, since I *am* all about the rich pretty boys. )

Our mission's been COMPROMISED?! </Ross>
Aug. 31st, 2004 12:41 pm1. Drove Jade to the airport early this morning -- 5:30am *shudder*. It feels like ages ago, or as if I dreamed it. (After I drove home, I fell right back into bed, you see.)
2. RENT was awesome. The musical itself is great, of course, but I have to admit I didn't have many expectations. I've seen a lot of musical theater, and tour casts are generally not super impressive ... but this production was fantastic. I daresay it was better than the first time I saw it, at the National Theater in D.C. The actors all sounded eerily similar to their counterparts on the Broadway Cast Recording (except for Mimi, but that is a Very Good Thing). Dan Rosenbaum played Roger, my favorite character, and he not only sounded great, he was cute to boot! Slightly too tall for the rest of the cast (he had to do a lot of awkward-looking bending), but his voice/looks made up for it.
3. Saw The Manchurian Candidate and Garden State. I enjoyed them both about the same, in different ways. TMC: Liev Schreiber and Meryl Streep were fab (but I'm tired of Denzel the way I'm tired of Kirsten Dunst -- overexposure), but the story/pacing left a lot to be desired. GS: Had a couple of funny moments, a couple of touching moments, and attempted to achieve some deeper meaning, but it never quite got there for me. I do give props to Zach Braff, though, for his efforts/achievements -- the guy shows a ton of promise. (Jade, I don't think GS won any Sundance awards; if it did, I can't find evidence of it anywhere.)
4. Have purchased Alias S3 and Angel S4 -- can't. wait. to get them! Also got this book. Jade found it and The Time-Traveler's Wife at the same time, but we had a devil of a time locating this one in retail, as it seems to have been self published. It sounds intriguing, and I'm always curious to see how a male writer approaches a "love story." ( Here's a description of the book... )
5. I have a meeting in half an hour with my manager to go over my annual review. Any raises/bonuses/etc. will be discussed at this time. When I spoke with him earlier, he did not sound like he was in a good mood. With good reason, but still. I'm going to go in with measured expectations ... let's say 3% raise and 5% bonus. Anything less will be disappointing, and anything more will be a pleasant surprise. ( Update: How it went... )
6. I'm thinking of getting a digital camera, but don't know much about them. I know, generally, that the more megapixels, the better. And that the form of power source (e.g., batteries) is important. Beyond that... yesterday, I saw a camera that had "effective pixels" and "recorded pixels." What the heck is the difference, and why do some cameras have it and some don't??
7. ( I am, not so shockingly, a Ravenclaw. )
