I'm still on my Veronica Mars rewatch kick. There are many vids out there, most of which are mediocre. Partly that's because they're from 3-5 years ago, and of course, vid quality back then was pretty poor.

The "We Are Young" vid I shared in my last post is still the best gen vid I've found. (Speaking of, the vid makers don't say whose cover it is, but I drove myself crazy trying to find out, and I think I've figured it out. I think it's a manipulated version of Glee's cover. Which blows my mind, because I didn't particularly care for their cover of that song, but this manipulated version of their cover? I might love even more than fun.'s ORIGINAL version. WEIRD.)

I've dug through the muck and found a few others that are really worth sharing. Oh how I envy you guys getting to watch these for the first time! ;) I hope you like them as much as I did.

LoVe-focused vid that will make your heart ache, in a good way. )

LoVe-focused vid that will tear your heart to shreds. Oh, LOGAN. )

And now for something a little more upbeat. Veronica Mars is a badass. And CUTE. I have such a girl crush on Kristen Bell. )

In Avengers news, I have finally finished the draft of that story I've been working on! Hallelujah! I just need to majorly edit it and get it beta'ed, and then it will be ready to post, lol. Also I need to start deciding what the hell I'm going to write for the Secret Santa exchange. >.>
sarea: (once upon a time)
I had to share this vid. It's SO wonderful and makes me feel so nostalgic. Need more HD Veronica Mars vids! I just finished rewatching S1. I'm so going to do a gifset recap.

Anyway, this vid also uses a fantastic cover of "We Are Young."

sarea: (if i were a zombie)
I have my Secret Santa assignment for [community profile] be_compromised. Eeeeee! Now I just need to figure out what the hell I'm going to write. It's not my prompter's fault; the prompts I got are totally fine. It's me. God help the person who got my prompts. My brain is always so all over the place. Before I can even think of starting this, though, I have to finish the story I'm so very nearly done with. I just have to write, like, half a scene. And do a ton of editing.

K and I went to an Italian cooking class the other night, held at one of my favorite local stores that sells high-end foodstuffs. They're the only local shop I've found that carries Desert Miracle, my favorite EVOO, so named because it's from a producer in Morocco (El-Borouj Olive Estate). Anyway, while I was there I hit upon the awesome idea that I could create a gift basket for a coworker's housewarming that I'm supposed to go to this weekend. He's not a foodie, but his wife is, so I think she'll appreciate it. I'm sooooooo excited about this basket, you don't even know. I WANT TO KEEP IT MYSELF. >.> But I won't. So far what I have in it is the aforementioned fave olive oil of mine, Scalia anchovies in oil, squid ink pasta, cranberry & hazelnut crisps, citrus blossom honey, and one of Tom Douglas's Rub with Love rubs. I did get plenty of things for myself while there. Also as a result of the class, I bought a reversible cast iron grill/griddle from Cost Plus that I am eager to put to use. :D

I have some fic recs, but they're not of the Avengers variety. I know, WHAT is the world coming to. It's particularly odd because one is for a show I've never actually watched (The Unusuals), while three are for a show I loved back in the day but never read fanfic for (Veronica Mars), plus a few others. Here's my plug for VM for anyone who hasn't seen it. It's sooooooooooo good. But don't just take my word for it. Stephen King was a fan. Joss Whedon and Kevin Smith were both such fans that they actually did cameos on the show. Quotes from Joss about VM: "I've never gotten more wrapped up in a show I wasn't making." "These guys know what they are doing on a level that intimidates me." "It's the Harry Potter of shows." "Best. show. ever." So if you don't trust me, trust Joss. But it was like Community and Firefly... a critical darling and cult favorite, but not popular with the masses, so it was canceled after 3 seasons. :-(

Anyway, onto the fic recs! )

I might be considering getting an Aeropress, which is YET ANOTHER way to make coffee. I think it's pretty much the last coffee-making contraption that I don't have (other than the most common of all, the drip). So when I have visitors, I'll be able to offer them an espresso, pour-over, French press, Keurig, or Aeropress coffee! .......yay.

I finally finished S1 of Homeland. It reminded of Line of Duty in that I found the storyline gripping, but I wanted to punch every character in the face.

Last night I went sailing! [profile] corianderstem invited me along on her friend's excursion. I've lived here for 10 years and I think that was the first time I've actually ever gone sailing (not counting ferry rides). Sad, isn't it. Two not-so-great things happened. 1) A. and I were talking while sitting on the... uh... front? We were going fast so the boat was tilted and we were braced against the... uh... rigging? We were chatting and suddenly we heard a little bump and rattle, saw a flash of hot pink, then heard a splash of water. At the same time we realized what had happened -- her camera (bought last month) had slid out of her pocket and into the Sound! A. took it well, and luckily there weren't any photos on it except for the ones she'd taken that evening, but still, that really sucked. It happened so quickly there was only enough time for our mouths to drop open. Lots of people on other boats were dressed in pirate gear due to Sea Fair. From that point on there was no end to the "Do you have a cannon? No, it dropped into the water" jokes. Get it? Cannon? Canon? LOL. Poor A. So the second not-so-great thing was that I was called upon at some point to pull in some rope for a sail. Then the wind caught the sail, and I held onto the rope too long, and now I have a painful rope burn on my middle finger. It was cold last night on the water so I didn't really feel it then, but on the drive home -- MAN that stung worse than anything. I put some burn gel on it, which soothed it a bit, but now my finger is in a bandage.

Still, despite these mishaps, it was super fun. Thankfully my awful motion sickness didn't seem to be affected by being on a boat.

I've finally gotten a new car. It's this one. The same dealership I worked with last time was the one that finally made me the deal I wanted -- gave me the discount I wanted on the new car as well as top KBB price for my leased car/trade in. While it may not have been the best deal on the face of the planet, it's good enough that I'm satisfied. My plan is to drive this car for like 20 years. Or more. I despise the car buying process soooooo much. This car isn't as fully loaded as my old one -- I will miss rain-sensing windshield wipers -- but it has all the stuff I really care about, primarily the navigation and backup camera. I'm also happy it's a hybrid and will help with gas consumption (and the fact that it uses regular gas, unlike my premium gas-chugging former car).

Only negative is that I don't have the new car yet. They have to put some thingy on the fuel whatsit as part of the fix from a recent recall, and it now has priority, being sold, but for the moment I am driving a loaner -- my own car that I sold them, lol. So at the face of it, nothing's changed. I just hope I can get the new car soon, because I'd like for my mom to be able to check it out/ride in it before she goes back to SoCal, and because I worry about things like something happening to the car while it's still on the dealership's lot.

Oh, the color scheme I wanted was a white exterior and black interior, which I guess is not a very popular color combination. They had like 100 white/tans but only one with white/black.

TV Show Meme, Day 20 - Favorite kiss: Logan/Veronica from Veronica Mars

Logan and Veronica's romance started out very similarly to Draco and Ginny's in that they hated each other's guts. That evolved slowly (very slowly), with Logan being a douchebag to her pretty much the whole time. Then suddenly in this one episode, out of nowhere, they kiss -- and it TOTALLY WORKS. Though there was actually very little build up to this romance, when it happened it didn't seem out of place, and in fact, seemed totally RIGHT. It explained so much of their vitriol toward one another (if Logan had secretly been carrying a torch for Veronica in his unacknowledged heart of hearts, but couldn't do anything about it because she was his best friend's girl). The kiss itself was sudden and hot ... and afterward, when they're looking at each other as she's walking away, confused and vulnerable, it's just so good. I'm not sure the show had me completely sold until that moment.
sarea: (Default)
Did I mention that I made Tres Leches Cake recently? I had it for the first time at Mistral Kitchen. It was sooooo good. They served theirs with strawberry sorbet. I wasn't that ambitious, but even plain it's wonderful.

I started reading Ursula K. Le Guin's The Beginning Place, and now I remember why I can't seem to get into her books... it's her writing. There's something about it that makes it difficult to follow. I'm constantly zoning out. I understand each individual word -- it's not like the writing is particularly dense or flowery -- yet when I read whole sentences or paragraphs they make no impression on me, they're utterly meaningless. This book is a 'teen' book, I'm only like 10 pages in, and this has happened about half a dozen times already. I go back and read the problem sentences verrrry slowly, but it doesn't usually help. I'm like, what is she trying to describe/say?! What just happened??

Lunch w/ the DG gals this weekend, yay! We're going to Maggiano's. Haven't been there in forever, hope they still have the take-home pasta thingy still.

TV Show Meme Day 15 - Favorite female character: Veronica Mars

What can I say about Veronica Mars? She's smart, sassy, and kick ass in every way. She doesn't have the perfect life but she doesn't allow herself to be a victim. She's confident in her abilities -- and if she isn't, she knows how to hide it well. She has an awesome dad. She never lets anyone get the better of her. She's played by one of the cutest actresses working today. And she manages to do all this and still be likable.
sarea: (team echolls)
You know what really irritates me? (Okay, since that guessing game could take all day, I'll just tell you what of the many possibilities I am specifically talking about right now.) Cars that sport "Baby on Board" signs. Oh, well I was planning to drive all crazily and plow right into you, but since you have a baby on board, I guess I'll refrain. (Not to mention, most of the time when I see those cars, they don't even have a fucking baby in there.) WTF, seriously -- am I supposed to feel compelled to drive more carefully because you've got that stupid sign up? You know what would actually compel me to drive more carefully? If someone had a "Grown Woman Who Will Kick Your Ass on Board" sign. I need one of those.

All right, rant over. Now I'm donning my "sharing cool things with my friends" mien.

Harry Potter:

* [livejournal.com profile] starlettegurly drew a tres cool pic of Draco and Harry from "Kissing Booth," which you can find here, along with many other awesome drawings (I love the dementor one).

* [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange -- if you don't already have this community friended but love D/G, you must go, read, and feedback if you are so inclined. :D Many, many fab stories have posted in the last couple of weeks.

Veronica Mars:

* The Many Faces of Logan, as depicted by [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_. Heehee. I also like the Duncan one.

* Fic: The Evil You Know, by [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl, R, Logan/Veronica. This is AU now, but still very worth reading.

* Fic: New Favorite Thing, by [livejournal.com profile] sadiekate, NC-17, Logan/Veronica. I love the style of this one.

* Fic: Broken Toys, by [livejournal.com profile] theohara, NC-17, Duncan/Veronica, Lilly/Logan, Logan/Veronica, Logan/Veronica/Lilly. This story is really well done -- Lilly is portrayed as being a bit 'harder' than I really see her, but the authenticity of her voice, especially at the beginning, totally sucked me in.

Jade found the latter two fics and Robbie found the Logan screencap biography. I do nothing but sit around and consume the cool stuff they find.

Misc:

* Okay, not many of you play World of Warcraft. I've almost gotten over it. But surely, some of you played old-school Nintendo. If you did, you might get a kick out of this. :))

Last, but not least, I have narrowed down my search for a digital camera to the Canon PowerShot A520. The place where I want to get it is out of stock, so I'm going to wait to order it (I'm in no rush). So if any of you want to warn me against it or give it kudos, now's your chance...
sarea: (meg)
Okay, this opinion might make me really unpopular, but I can't keep it in any longer. Tell me I'm not alone. )

Remember when Harry and Co. were pretty? Well, there was a time I thought so, even if that time has passed. But like, what happened to the Harry and Draco who looked like this? Well, maybe not exactly like that, but look how good their hair looks! (I can't imagine that all the H/D fans haven't already seen it, but it's the first time I've encountered it, and wow, what a fabulous manipulation. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gnrationfo for linking from his journal.)

College football stuff. )

You might be surprised to hear that I am actually still writing. It's coming along slowly, but I'll take what I can get at this point. The problem is I have a few VM fic ideas I'd really like to write, but I've still got HP fics on my plate. I've never been a multi-fandom sort of person -- I tend to pick an obsession and stick with it, at least when it comes to writing -- but maybe this is the start of a whole new me. I find that I still love and enjoy D/G, even if the words don't come as easily as they used to. I think part of the trouble is that my brain is filled with words for VM atm. :)) Maybe if I give them the opportunity to purge themselves on my computer, that'll make room for the other stuff. (I'd also like to write in the Firefly universe before all is said and done, and yes, even World of Warcraft. Jade and I even planned out a whole Prince of Persia fic that probably won't get written. Hee.)
sarea: (logan smile)
There are five things that don't surprise Veronica Mars.

1. Logan gives good head.

Lilly probably tied him to her bed, spread her legs, and didn't let him go until he could do it right.

But this isn't how things begin.

Seriously, what a fabulous opening for a fic. :)) Sorta grabs one's attention, doesn't it? Hee. It's called "Five Things That Don't Suprise Veronica Mars," by [livejournal.com profile] sltt, and can be found here. Pretty short, but well worth the read.

Talis let me sleep in 15 minutes today! What a good boy. Of course, he did sorta keep me up with his grooming. Yes, apparently, bedtime also doubles as grooming time. I could hear him licking himself until I fell asleep. *cough* The word I'm looking for is anyway...

How many WoW alts should one person really have?? )
sarea: (LoVe animated kiss)
You wouldn't believe how many Xterras I've seen on the road lately. And specifically, how many yellow Xterras. I passed by a Nissan dealership and there was even one in the showroom. I guess I can't blame anyone for wanting a bit of Logan in their lives. :)) Seriously, though -- I wonder how many of those sales can be traced back to VM. Speaking of VM, a horrible thought occurred to me. Spoilery musing. )

My mom is a cleaning machine. I wish I could be more like her. My place looks unbelievably awesome now -- I don't know how she does it. I mean, there's still lots of stuff I have to put away, but she cleaned the bathrooms and the kitchen from top to bottom (I don't even know where the mop is, so she totally scrubbed the floor by hand), and now, instead of one bedroom being "finished," all three of them are. Basically all I have to do now is tidy up the bonus/family room, and that's it. And even that looks very uncluttered now. Did I mention that I finally got my office desk? And that it's the most awesome thing ever? I'll have to take pictures. Next order of business is to get myself a digital camera. It's one of those things that I've let slip by me, for some reason. It's like, am I living in the stone age or something, when even my parents have one and I don't?

Well, Talis is back. He's much better behaved now, but I don't know how he'll be after having to spend hours and hours by himself, day after day. :-S I am seriously considering getting another dog, although the thought of two dogs exhausts me -- particularly if one isn't house trained. More doggie woes. )

I failed to get my mom interested in Veronica Mars. Turns out she's not interested in shows about school-age kids, and was only into Buffy due to the supernatural aspect of it (she loves horror movies and the like). However, she is really into Lost, so I have sent her home with my DVDs. What could be spoilery info, depending. )

Ever since my paid account lapsed, I have felt incomplete without all my different icons and being unable to change my mood theme and being limited as to my journal's layout. I was trying to be smarter about where I spend my money and was just about to cave, but [livejournal.com profile] ropo saved me. Now I can use 1 billion icons again, wheee! I think I'm way too lazy now to do any kind of customized layout, though. Maybe one day. Also, [livejournal.com profile] jade_okelani is the rockingest. She wrote 5 ficlets starring five of my OTPs! There's Mal/Inara, Dave/Georgia, Lex/Lana, Syd/Sark, and Draco/Ginny! (Speaking of D/G, the latest part of DV totally made me cry again. What is UP with that. I'm dying to see the last chapter. First, because I want to know how it all turns out, and second, because it will finally be done and I can move on. It's like the end of an era!)

WoW stuff. )

Also, it's been so crazy trying to keep up with the Bruins in college football. They've been incredibly lucky this year. I had totally given up on them in the Stanford game and went to dinner with my mom, only to check the score later and find, to my amazement, that they had won. They better get their act together, because their luck won't hold out forever, and they can't play that way against USC, especially. Until then, I'll bask in our #5 BCS ranking and undefeated status. :D

And that's all I have to say about that.
sarea: (Default)
I've done something creative, but it doesn't have anything to do with writing. :O What in the world? I couldn't help it; it was like a demon possessed me and wouldn't let me go until I'd finished it. So what is it, you ask. It's a fanvid. My first (well, technically, my second, but the first one was an XF one I did ages ago that I never showed anyone). It's my first in practically every way that matters. <g>

It's this really angsty/sad LoVe video that kept nagging at me, begging to be made. I'm so glad it's done ... now I can move on with my life. (LoVe, for those of you on my flist who don't know the gorgeousness of it all, is Logan/Veronica from Veronica Mars. Why do they insist on breaking my stupid heart?) All comments and critique welcome -- but seeing as how I'm new at this, please be constructive.

"What If" | LoVe | 16MB

(Once you click on the link, scroll down and click on "free." The next page will make you wait some seconds before the link to the actual file appears.)

Edit: I've made the screen size smaller, so the quality of the picture should be slightly better.
sarea: (veronica)
I am posting this primarily for Jade, who hasn't yet seen VM but will soon, and for anyone else who might care about such things. Since Jade always somehow learns things, she will no doubt hear of a rumor that Kristin of eOnline spilled and possibly freak out (as I did). So to be a good friend, I am posting clarification on the rumor, which should set all minds at ease ... for those who think like me, anyway. </cryptic> However, if you don't know what rumor I'm talking about, don't click on the link, because then you'll just get spoiled for no reason. This is just a bit of peace of mind for the already-spoiled.

Veronica Mars spoilers for S2 -- DO NOT CLICK if you don't want to know. )

Okay, VM PSA over, I am going to work on fic.
sarea: (veronica)
It's a lovely time of year. Especially when you start a season 6-0. I'm probably going to jinx it by talking about it, but I think we have a truly dangerous game coming up this Sat., so it may be the last time I can talk about my undefeated team. That's the great thing about supporting a school like UCLA though; we have teams that contend on the national level in every sport, not just one, and it fills up the year with fun games. (I only care about football and basketball, though. Still, those take care of fall/winter/spring.) I'm afraid that we are far too overrated at the moment. We're ranked no. 8 in the nation, which I can't believe, considering our last 3 games were come-from-behind victories -- two of which should have been easy wins. After Sat.'s game against WA St., I was convinced we'd drop a few ranks, deservedly, and instead we rose 4 spots. WTF? I'm concerned because the higher you're ranked, the greater the pressure, and I'm just not convinced this team can handle it.

Anyway, enough about football. Onto TV. I finished Veronica Mars this weekend. For a show on UPN, I'd give it a 10 for quality. Overall, I'd give it an 8. Also, I've now read the recaps at TWoP for both VM and House, and all I have to say is: Those recappers seriously need to get their egos in check. They're not nearly as funny as they used to be (XF recaps were great), and it's obvious they think they're so incredibly clever and special. *barf* Also, it's starting to be like fandom, where the recappers are convinced that all the boys are gay and secretly sucking each other's cocks off screen. Okay, WHATEVER. Buh-bye, TWoP, you have officially become useless to me.

So here's my VM commentary, which may not be filled with self-important blatherings on about how this actor or that actor reads my commentary, or whether some random line of dialogue on the show is actually a clear shout-out to me, but I'm sure one or two of you will make the supreme sacrifice and read it anyway. :p I've finally decided on a ship. And other spoilery things. )
