1) Digital cameras -- what kind are you using and how well do you like it? I just made another big-ticket purchase in a Nikon D40, but am on the fence over whether or not to keep it or get something else. I'm looking for any and all recommendations -- let's pretend for a moment that price doesn't matter (it does, of course, but I'd like to see a wide range of possibilities).

2) Like others on my flist, I did some shopping this weekend. I don't enjoy shopping as much as I used to (at least, in a mall -- I still love shopping online, because I can narrow down the shopping to one item that I need/want and do a bunch of research at the same time), but I found myself having a lot of fun. I took care of Christmas presents for two people, which makes me happy in and of itself.

3) The reason I had to go to the mall at all was because I needed more Big, and for some reason the LUSH site isn't working (I can't put anything into my shopping bag). Yay for wrong price stickers that saved me $8! )

4) I still had some leftover Lambrusco from when [livejournal.com profile] corianderstem came over, and I tried to drink it on its own, but I'm just not a fan of alcohol. So I decided to use it in Coq au Vin, which calls for a "full-bodied red wine," but I figured that for me, it wouldn't make that much of a difference. For dessert I made chocolate-pumpkin brownies. They were both fantastic. I've made Coq au Vin before so I knew what to expect (and as predicted, the Lambrusco worked just fine), but the brownies were a new recipe. It's perfect for fall and any Halloween parties you might be attending! Recipes and photos on my food blog.

5) I had Afghani food for the first time on Saturday, when I went to an Afghani restaurant with my cousin. I had the lamb kebab, which was sooooo good (normally I don't like lamb because when it's not fresh it gets very gamey), and it was served with some kind of flavored rice and roasted eggplant with yogurt sauce. Sooooo good. Afterward we went to a local ice cream shop that had things like, "canteloupe-mint sorbet" and "Baracky Road" (lol). We shared a pint of balsamic strawberry (just like it sounds -- strawberry ice cream with a ribbon of balsamic dressing), which was surprisingly delicious, and maple walnut.

For the past week or so I've really felt like baking, so yesterday I attempted to make a pound cake. I love pound cake, but I don't think I've ever made one that I actually liked (restaurants and the supermarket serve much better ones). I have not broken that tradition. I got too caught up in playing WoW and took it out of the oven 35 min late. *facepalm* It wasn't burnt or anything, and the inside was still quite soft and moist. But I'll always wonder if I would have liked it if I'd done it properly.

My Canon PowerShot A520 arrived! W00t! I haven't had a whole lot of time to play around with it, but from what I have experimented with, it kicks ass. The only thing I would have preferred would be for the LCD to be one of those that you can open and close (like Robbie's camera), because it seems so vulnerable. Knowing me, it's so going to get scratched. I also probably need to buy a larger memory card; I'm just not sure how big I really need it to be and what a good buy would be.

I've just booked my flight for LA. Boring details cut. )

Remember when I asked, if you could be the star of your own show, what your theme song would be? Well, I never answered it myself, but I've decided that it's "Push Jump (I'm a dork, I put down the wrong title!)," by Madonna (from her new album). Not that Madonna would ever allow her music to be used as the title theme for a TV show (I don't think), but since it's my fantasy world, it's my theme song. (My CD's not here or I'd link to it. I'll add it once I'm home.) Here's a YSI link if you'd like to have a listen. If you're at all interested, this is what my show would be about. )

My dad is going to be here on Thanksgiving, w00t! He's excited about seeing Talis. Oh sure, everyone loves and misses Talis, and yet he's living with me and is home by himself 9 hours out of the day. Poor little thing.

Do you find that your body temperature drops dramatically when you're on your period (those of you who get them :p)? These things happen every month during That Time: 1) I start drinking water like a camel; 2) I crave chocolate (when normally I'm 'eh' about it); 3) I break out; 4) I get super tired (and bitchy); and 5) I get really, really cold. It can be 85 degrees outside and I'll be wearing a sweatshirt and still be cold. Unfortunately for me, it's so not 85 degrees out right now. *weeps*

And that is all for today's TMI. Tune in next week!

You know what really irritates me? (Okay, since that guessing game could take all day, I'll just tell you what of the many possibilities I am specifically talking about right now.) Cars that sport "Baby on Board" signs. Oh, well I was planning to drive all crazily and plow right into you, but since you have a baby on board, I guess I'll refrain. (Not to mention, most of the time when I see those cars, they don't even have a fucking baby in there.) WTF, seriously -- am I supposed to feel compelled to drive more carefully because you've got that stupid sign up? You know what would actually compel me to drive more carefully? If someone had a "Grown Woman Who Will Kick Your Ass on Board" sign. I need one of those.

All right, rant over. Now I'm donning my "sharing cool things with my friends" mien.

Harry Potter:

* [livejournal.com profile] starlettegurly drew a tres cool pic of Draco and Harry from "Kissing Booth," which you can find here, along with many other awesome drawings (I love the dementor one).

* [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange -- if you don't already have this community friended but love D/G, you must go, read, and feedback if you are so inclined. :D Many, many fab stories have posted in the last couple of weeks.

Veronica Mars:

* The Many Faces of Logan, as depicted by [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_. Heehee. I also like the Duncan one.

* Fic: The Evil You Know, by [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl, R, Logan/Veronica. This is AU now, but still very worth reading.

* Fic: New Favorite Thing, by [livejournal.com profile] sadiekate, NC-17, Logan/Veronica. I love the style of this one.

* Fic: Broken Toys, by [livejournal.com profile] theohara, NC-17, Duncan/Veronica, Lilly/Logan, Logan/Veronica, Logan/Veronica/Lilly. This story is really well done -- Lilly is portrayed as being a bit 'harder' than I really see her, but the authenticity of her voice, especially at the beginning, totally sucked me in.

Jade found the latter two fics and Robbie found the Logan screencap biography. I do nothing but sit around and consume the cool stuff they find.

Misc:

* Okay, not many of you play World of Warcraft. I've almost gotten over it. But surely, some of you played old-school Nintendo. If you did, you might get a kick out of this. :))

Last, but not least, I have narrowed down my search for a digital camera to the Canon PowerShot A520. The place where I want to get it is out of stock, so I'm going to wait to order it (I'm in no rush). So if any of you want to warn me against it or give it kudos, now's your chance...

1. Drove Jade to the airport early this morning -- 5:30am *shudder*. It feels like ages ago, or as if I dreamed it. (After I drove home, I fell right back into bed, you see.)

2. RENT was awesome. The musical itself is great, of course, but I have to admit I didn't have many expectations. I've seen a lot of musical theater, and tour casts are generally not super impressive ... but this production was fantastic. I daresay it was better than the first time I saw it, at the National Theater in D.C. The actors all sounded eerily similar to their counterparts on the Broadway Cast Recording (except for Mimi, but that is a Very Good Thing). Dan Rosenbaum played Roger, my favorite character, and he not only sounded great, he was cute to boot! Slightly too tall for the rest of the cast (he had to do a lot of awkward-looking bending), but his voice/looks made up for it.

3. Saw The Manchurian Candidate and Garden State. I enjoyed them both about the same, in different ways. TMC: Liev Schreiber and Meryl Streep were fab (but I'm tired of Denzel the way I'm tired of Kirsten Dunst -- overexposure), but the story/pacing left a lot to be desired. GS: Had a couple of funny moments, a couple of touching moments, and attempted to achieve some deeper meaning, but it never quite got there for me. I do give props to Zach Braff, though, for his efforts/achievements -- the guy shows a ton of promise. (Jade, I don't think GS won any Sundance awards; if it did, I can't find evidence of it anywhere.)

4. Have purchased Alias S3 and Angel S4 -- can't. wait. to get them! Also got this book. Jade found it and The Time-Traveler's Wife at the same time, but we had a devil of a time locating this one in retail, as it seems to have been self published. It sounds intriguing, and I'm always curious to see how a male writer approaches a "love story." Here's a description of the book... )

5. I have a meeting in half an hour with my manager to go over my annual review. Any raises/bonuses/etc. will be discussed at this time. When I spoke with him earlier, he did not sound like he was in a good mood. With good reason, but still. I'm going to go in with measured expectations ... let's say 3% raise and 5% bonus. Anything less will be disappointing, and anything more will be a pleasant surprise. Update: How it went... )

6. I'm thinking of getting a digital camera, but don't know much about them. I know, generally, that the more megapixels, the better. And that the form of power source (e.g., batteries) is important. Beyond that... yesterday, I saw a camera that had "effective pixels" and "recorded pixels." What the heck is the difference, and why do some cameras have it and some don't??

7. I am, not so shockingly, a Ravenclaw. )
