Does anyone know whether high-speed Internet access through cable is the same as DSL with regard to routers/wireless connectivity? See, I have DSL now, and a wireless router, and I love it. But at the new place, I was thinking I'd cut out the necessity of a land line, and use cable broadband instead of DSL ... only, I don't know if this would affect the wireless part. I don't think it would be worth switching if it meant that I'd lose my wireless capabilities (at least, without having to pay them to do it for me).

The packing is going very well. And it's all due to [livejournal.com profile] ropo and [livejournal.com profile] jade_okelani, who have been phenomenal. There are many boxes packed, and I've only done like two of them. Sadly, the place still looks far from empty. *weeps* I don't know what happened to Robbie or who this imposter is in her place, but she has been downright organizational and all proactive and stuff. She yells at me for not labeling boxes correctly. She banned me from playing WoW until more things have been packed. (Going ... into ... withdrawal ...) But she frightens me most when she adopts an Australian accent and demands that I have to cut what I own (mainly books) by "hauff." She claims she's imitating some guy from one of those decorating/home improvement shows ... but I just don't know. Given everything else, she might actually be that guy in disguise.

And in the best news ever, I am a SERGEANT! PH34R ME, LOWBIES!!! Of course, I have not been able to prance around with my new rank at all, given the banning and everything. :'(

And to no one's surprise...
Pure Nerd
56 % Nerd, 34% Geek, 43% Dork
For The Record: A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia. A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one. A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions. You scored better than half in all Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd. The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the "dork." No-longer. Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful. Congratulations!

My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

Contectivity for cable/dsl for wireless is exactly the same (other than speed factors that is) - a cable cord goes to a cable modem then to a router - the rest is the same.

Yyaya for finally moving :)

PS Cable modem is *SO* much better than DSL. You'll wonder how in the world you ever lived without it once it's installed.

I have faith in you! I know you can do it! The worse you might have to do is reinstall the router software.

I just switched from DSL to cable, and my router DID NOT want to work.
we had to completely re-install the router in order to get it to read from the cable modem. That could just be my POS though. When I went to test my wireless laptop however, it worked like a charm. Nothing new had to be done. Other than that there really isn't much difference. Cable is a *little* faster, maybe.

Good luck with the rest of your packing!!

Yikes. But at least all the connections and things are the same (I was afraid the plugs or whatever would be incompatible), and it sounds like you did eventually get it to work, so that's good news. Thanks! :-)

We have a wireless router with our cable modem and it works fine. Don't think we had to do anything other than plug them into each other.

I am so glad to hear that there are no compatibility issues, and that everything should work, theoretically. Can't wait to get cable and try out Vonage while I'm at it. :D

what's your lunch plan? I think you should come home and go through your books while I tell you why you don't need two of the same book. Then we can discuss your handbag addiction and how it's ruining your life and you need to cut them down by two-thirds.

and you think YOU'RE a seargant!!

And you think YOU'RE afraid of her. I'm watching the two of you switch personalities before MY VERY EYES. HOW DO YOU THINK THAT MAKES ME FEEL?

I'll tell you. Terrified, that's how. Adrift in a world that is strange and unfamiliar and with only two slices of pizza instead of three.

Hold me.

OMG I didn't even mention the pizza thing. Maybe because it's TOO strange and traumatizing.

I don't think I'm a "seargant." I don't even know what that is. *corrects spelling/grammar mistake*

I was actually planning to go home and take a wee kip, before now realizing that the two of you are already awake. So what do you want to do for lunch? Does anyone have leftovers besides me?

Oh, it's multiple copies you're making her get rid of? That's probably a good thing. I was coming in here to gripe about what a horrid friend you were, making her get rid of books! *g*

See you tonight, OMGWTFBBQ!!!!1!!
