Boy am I glad I'm not into professional sports. I was rooting for the Seahawks because hey, at least they have some connection to me. The loss was disappointing to watch, but I'm sure for others around here, was heart wrenching. :( But like I said, I'm glad I didn't have much invested in the game, because if I'd had to watch what happened yesterday to a team I really cared about, I would have burst several blood vessels. Wow, some of those calls. Just, wow. Those refs had no business being so bloody visible in a game like that. It's times like these when you really have to wonder about shady/underhanded dealings that go on behind the scenes. O.o

Let's see what sports geeks experts at ESPN have to say:

This is the TOP STORY on the site currently. Quote: "Here's what referee Bill Leavy's crew did, point blank: It robbed Seattle."

This ESPN sports commentator doesn't even like the Seahawks and yet even he concludes that the officials were frauds. And goes on to say, "I'm not sure they (the Steelers) deserved to win this game."

From the peanut gallery, a poll: Were the Seahawks robbed/was the officiating bad? I was actually surprised by how many people answered YES. Either the Seahawks has more fans than I imagined, or people really are riled up by yesterday's game. Check it out, and vote yourself.

What was most enjoyable was being at [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl's Super Bowl party, eating the cheesy thingy appetizer and later, building my own chicken fajitas. Laura made so much that following any little Seahawks moment she was like, "Celebrate with FOOD!" Haha.

What a game. It all worked out as it should, in my opinion. Reggie Bush won the Heisman, and Vince Young led his Longhorns to a national championship. :-)

I don't often write in to news sites, but I made an exception this time. I mean, I just HAD to thank T.J. Simers at the L.A. Times. I owe him a lot. Without him, well...

To T.J. Simers:

I never cared about the Texas Longhorns before this year, but I have
you to thank for the elation I feel right now. Were it not for your
obnoxious columns, I might have had a fairly boring Jan. 4. So
thanks, and I hope your Trojans are as successful in the coming year
as they were today.

What a fabulous beginning to 2006! :D

And just so this isn't all about football, I do want you guys to know that I have started to work on the sequel to Portkey Party. My biggest obstacle at the moment is the fact that I seem to have lost ALL MY NOTES for that fic. *weeps* I'm in the process of rebuilding, but it's always hard to do that, especially when I keep hoping I'll find the notes any day now. :-S

Okay, this opinion might make me really unpopular, but I can't keep it in any longer. Tell me I'm not alone. )

Remember when Harry and Co. were pretty? Well, there was a time I thought so, even if that time has passed. But like, what happened to the Harry and Draco who looked like this? Well, maybe not exactly like that, but look how good their hair looks! (I can't imagine that all the H/D fans haven't already seen it, but it's the first time I've encountered it, and wow, what a fabulous manipulation. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gnrationfo for linking from his journal.)

College football stuff. )

You might be surprised to hear that I am actually still writing. It's coming along slowly, but I'll take what I can get at this point. The problem is I have a few VM fic ideas I'd really like to write, but I've still got HP fics on my plate. I've never been a multi-fandom sort of person -- I tend to pick an obsession and stick with it, at least when it comes to writing -- but maybe this is the start of a whole new me. I find that I still love and enjoy D/G, even if the words don't come as easily as they used to. I think part of the trouble is that my brain is filled with words for VM atm. :)) Maybe if I give them the opportunity to purge themselves on my computer, that'll make room for the other stuff. (I'd also like to write in the Firefly universe before all is said and done, and yes, even World of Warcraft. Jade and I even planned out a whole Prince of Persia fic that probably won't get written. Hee.)

You wouldn't believe how many Xterras I've seen on the road lately. And specifically, how many yellow Xterras. I passed by a Nissan dealership and there was even one in the showroom. I guess I can't blame anyone for wanting a bit of Logan in their lives. :)) Seriously, though -- I wonder how many of those sales can be traced back to VM. Speaking of VM, a horrible thought occurred to me. Spoilery musing. )

My mom is a cleaning machine. I wish I could be more like her. My place looks unbelievably awesome now -- I don't know how she does it. I mean, there's still lots of stuff I have to put away, but she cleaned the bathrooms and the kitchen from top to bottom (I don't even know where the mop is, so she totally scrubbed the floor by hand), and now, instead of one bedroom being "finished," all three of them are. Basically all I have to do now is tidy up the bonus/family room, and that's it. And even that looks very uncluttered now. Did I mention that I finally got my office desk? And that it's the most awesome thing ever? I'll have to take pictures. Next order of business is to get myself a digital camera. It's one of those things that I've let slip by me, for some reason. It's like, am I living in the stone age or something, when even my parents have one and I don't?

Well, Talis is back. He's much better behaved now, but I don't know how he'll be after having to spend hours and hours by himself, day after day. :-S I am seriously considering getting another dog, although the thought of two dogs exhausts me -- particularly if one isn't house trained. More doggie woes. )

I failed to get my mom interested in Veronica Mars. Turns out she's not interested in shows about school-age kids, and was only into Buffy due to the supernatural aspect of it (she loves horror movies and the like). However, she is really into Lost, so I have sent her home with my DVDs. What could be spoilery info, depending. )

Ever since my paid account lapsed, I have felt incomplete without all my different icons and being unable to change my mood theme and being limited as to my journal's layout. I was trying to be smarter about where I spend my money and was just about to cave, but [livejournal.com profile] ropo saved me. Now I can use 1 billion icons again, wheee! I think I'm way too lazy now to do any kind of customized layout, though. Maybe one day. Also, [livejournal.com profile] jade_okelani is the rockingest. She wrote 5 ficlets starring five of my OTPs! There's Mal/Inara, Dave/Georgia, Lex/Lana, Syd/Sark, and Draco/Ginny! (Speaking of D/G, the latest part of DV totally made me cry again. What is UP with that. I'm dying to see the last chapter. First, because I want to know how it all turns out, and second, because it will finally be done and I can move on. It's like the end of an era!)

WoW stuff. )

Also, it's been so crazy trying to keep up with the Bruins in college football. They've been incredibly lucky this year. I had totally given up on them in the Stanford game and went to dinner with my mom, only to check the score later and find, to my amazement, that they had won. They better get their act together, because their luck won't hold out forever, and they can't play that way against USC, especially. Until then, I'll bask in our #5 BCS ranking and undefeated status. :D

And that's all I have to say about that.

It's a lovely time of year. Especially when you start a season 6-0. I'm probably going to jinx it by talking about it, but I think we have a truly dangerous game coming up this Sat., so it may be the last time I can talk about my undefeated team. That's the great thing about supporting a school like UCLA though; we have teams that contend on the national level in every sport, not just one, and it fills up the year with fun games. (I only care about football and basketball, though. Still, those take care of fall/winter/spring.) I'm afraid that we are far too overrated at the moment. We're ranked no. 8 in the nation, which I can't believe, considering our last 3 games were come-from-behind victories -- two of which should have been easy wins. After Sat.'s game against WA St., I was convinced we'd drop a few ranks, deservedly, and instead we rose 4 spots. WTF? I'm concerned because the higher you're ranked, the greater the pressure, and I'm just not convinced this team can handle it.

Anyway, enough about football. Onto TV. I finished Veronica Mars this weekend. For a show on UPN, I'd give it a 10 for quality. Overall, I'd give it an 8. Also, I've now read the recaps at TWoP for both VM and House, and all I have to say is: Those recappers seriously need to get their egos in check. They're not nearly as funny as they used to be (XF recaps were great), and it's obvious they think they're so incredibly clever and special. *barf* Also, it's starting to be like fandom, where the recappers are convinced that all the boys are gay and secretly sucking each other's cocks off screen. Okay, WHATEVER. Buh-bye, TWoP, you have officially become useless to me.

So here's my VM commentary, which may not be filled with self-important blatherings on about how this actor or that actor reads my commentary, or whether some random line of dialogue on the show is actually a clear shout-out to me, but I'm sure one or two of you will make the supreme sacrifice and read it anyway. :p I've finally decided on a ship. And other spoilery things. )

Traffic was freakishly good this morning. Is there some kind of holiday going on that I don't know about?

So did I mention that I put my condo up for sale? I can't remember. Anyway, it got listed on Thursday, and my agents (I got rid of my old agent, who I was not happy with) noted on the listing that I did not want to review offers until Monday, with the hope that I would have multiple offers to choose from. I didn't hear anything over the weekend, so I assumed that they'd been too optimistic. Well, I got a call this morning from one of the agents, and apparently there have been a couple of offers to come in, so we're going to meet tonight to go over them. O.o My mom's like, "I knew you should have asked for more." But I thought it was a reasonable price, plus my condo dues are very high -- $257/month. Just for dues! Not counting the mortgage! Anyway, I have yet to see what the actual offers entail, so I don't know that this monkey is off my back yet -- I mean, what if they suck? It'd be nice to get this settled before I leave, but it won't be the end of the world if I don't.

I had a fairly frivolous weekend.

I watched Firefly. )

I also watched some S1 House. )

There was also come college football viewing. )

I played WoW. )

Also, I wish the world to know that Jade is an Indian giver, and took back the Xbox Lego Star Wars game that she and Robbie gave me for an early bday present. Well, she claims that she accidentally packed it into her luggage by mistake and that she'll return it to me in NY, but this seems a likely story.
