I have my Secret Santa assignment for
be_compromised. Eeeeee! Now I just need to figure out what the hell I'm going to write. It's not my prompter's fault; the prompts I got are totally fine. It's me. God help the person who got my prompts. My brain is always so all over the place. Before I can even think of starting this, though, I have to finish the story I'm so very nearly done with. I just have to write, like, half a scene. And do a ton of editing.
K and I went to an Italian cooking class the other night, held at one of my favorite local stores that sells high-end foodstuffs. They're the only local shop I've found that carries Desert Miracle, my favorite EVOO, so named because it's from a producer in Morocco (El-Borouj Olive Estate). Anyway, while I was there I hit upon the awesome idea that I could create a gift basket for a coworker's housewarming that I'm supposed to go to this weekend. He's not a foodie, but his wife is, so I think she'll appreciate it. I'm sooooooo excited about this basket, you don't even know. I WANT TO KEEP IT MYSELF. >.> But I won't. So far what I have in it is the aforementioned fave olive oil of mine, Scalia anchovies in oil, squid ink pasta, cranberry & hazelnut crisps, citrus blossom honey, and one of Tom Douglas's Rub with Love rubs. I did get plenty of things for myself while there. Also as a result of the class, I bought a reversible cast iron grill/griddle from Cost Plus that I am eager to put to use. :D
I have some fic recs, but they're not of the Avengers variety. I know, WHAT is the world coming to. It's particularly odd because one is for a show I've never actually watched (The Unusuals), while three are for a show I loved back in the day but never read fanfic for (Veronica Mars), plus a few others. Here's my plug for VM for anyone who hasn't seen it. It's sooooooooooo good. But don't just take my word for it. Stephen King was a fan. Joss Whedon and Kevin Smith were both such fans that they actually did cameos on the show. Quotes from Joss about VM: "I've never gotten more wrapped up in a show I wasn't making." "These guys know what they are doing on a level that intimidates me." "It's the Harry Potter of shows." "Best. show. ever." So if you don't trust me, trust Joss. But it was like Community and Firefly... a critical darling and cult favorite, but not popular with the masses, so it was canceled after 3 seasons. :-(

Fandom: The Unusuals
Pairing: Casey Shraeger/Jason Walsh
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Crime happens. The perps are strange. He's got a thing for his partner. He keeps it a secret.
My notes: OK, I think pretty much everyone who has any interest in Casey/Jason fic has read this story already, but I've never actually recced it on my LJ so I'm fixing that oversight. This might be the best fanfic I've ever read. OK, I say that about every awesome fanfic I read, but seriously... it's unbelievably good. I've NEVER, EVER before read fanfic for a show I've never even watched. I knew only the very, very basics about The Unusuals and the fact that I liked the two leads very much. Now I don't even know if I want to watch the show, because I know Casey/Jason isn't a canon pairing. But this story also serves as a very satisfying continuation/ending of the series, so.
Hard Habit to Break by mskatej
Fandom: Veronica Mars
Pairing: Logan Echolls/Veronica Mars
Rating: NC-17
Summary: Nothing gets Veronica over her failed relationships better than Logan Echolls.
My notes: Um, yeah, so this is super hot. Logan and Veronica do what they do best, destroy each other and pick each other back up again.
A Strange New Story Every Time by gyzym
Fandom: Veronica Mars
Pairing: Logan Echolls/Veronica Mars
Rating: R
Summary: Ten years clean of Neptune living, Logan's past finds him in an all-night grocery store.
My notes: OK so if you're a Clint/Natasha fan, you probably recognize this as being the author of "we were emergencies," one of the best-reviewed C/N stories on EARTH (and I'm not even exaggerating). I wasn't actually a fan of that story, but I liked this one.

Fandom: Veronica Mars
Pairing: Logan Echolls/Veronica Mars, Logan Echolls/Lilly Kane
Rating: NC-17
Summary: It was about a month before she died that Lilly brought up the idea of fucking Veronica.
My notes: Really good Logan and Lilly characterizations. They're both exactly as they should be, down to the smallest nuances (especially Logan's thoughts/feelings), and I can totally see this fucked up scene actually happening.
A Craze You'd Endorse by k8andrewz
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Pairing: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski
Rating: NC-17
Summary: He's a 16-year-old guy. He has a *right* to jerk off.
My notes: This has such a good Stiles voice. Plus, Scott and Allison aren't in it, so... bonus.
Assets Ogling by relenafanel
Fandom: Big Bang Theory
Pairing: Sheldon Cooper/Penny
Rating: R
Summary: What it says on the box. Can also be titled "5 Times Sheldon Checked Out Penny Before She Finally Did Something About It."
My notes: So... I ship Sheldon/Penny, or at least, I ship their friendship. The problem is that NONE of the fanfic I've read of them getting together actually reads very believably. Maybe because Sheldon is just too asexual, I don't know. This story has a REALLY good Sheldon voice, and comes the closest to making me believe that he might see Penny (or even recognize himself) as a sexual being. But I'm still looking for that BBT fic that will blow me away, if such a thing exists. It's possible that I don't really even want them to get together, I just want Leonard to disappear, and BBT to be a show about the Sheldon/Penny friendship. (Raj and Wolowitz can stay. OK, even Amy and Bernadette. It's just Leonard who has to go.)
I might be considering getting an Aeropress, which is YET ANOTHER way to make coffee. I think it's pretty much the last coffee-making contraption that I don't have (other than the most common of all, the drip). So when I have visitors, I'll be able to offer them an espresso, pour-over, French press, Keurig, or Aeropress coffee! .......yay.
I finally finished S1 of Homeland. It reminded of Line of Duty in that I found the storyline gripping, but I wanted to punch every character in the face.
