1) Why. Why is Sunday already almost over? Why do weekends pass so quickly?? /SOB The only good thing about Sundays is that I have Breaking Bad to look forward to... except there are only two episodes left in this season cryyyyyyyy.

2) OK, I have taken a moment to pull myself together. I did so by watching this Firefly-style Avengers intro for the billionth time. If you haven't seen this yet, what are you waiting for? Take my love, take my land... )

3) I made cheese yesterday! Three kinds to be exact. One gallon of whole milk (well, just shy of a full gallon, I also made waffle batter and needed to take some) yielded: 11oz mozzarella, 4oz ricotta, and 2oz gjetost. (Links go to the methodology for each.) Except I messed up on the gjetost, I didn't pay enough attention at the end and the bottom of my pot is totally burned. >< Boy is that going to be a bitch to get out.

4) I did all my other dishes, though, which was a lot (and I haven't even made pesto yet, which I need to do by EoD). I told myself I could have a nice cup of coffee as a reward. Except I do not like this roast at ALL. It's some kind of Sumatra roast that I got at Whole Foods. I was picturing this idyllic time where I could browse Tumblr and drink coffee and now that dream has been shattered. </adult tantrum>

5) <consoles self with two new "Woman, this is Jeremy fucking Renner Talking" meme images> They just get better and better. )

6) You guys, you know I love all things Hawkeye... well, I thought I did, anyway. But this is just no. )

7) Remember how I was all excited about my new Blu-ray player and the fact that it could stream stuff wirelessly? I started watching Mad Men S5, and every 10 minutes, the player would say "cannot play." It doesn't have the best ffwding functionality (and besides, how annoying is it to have to ffwd to your last spot every 10 minutes?), so it was driving. me. crazy. I called Panasonic, which said that the player requires a minimum speed of 6Mbps, so I needed to call Comcast. I have pretty slow internet at home -- it's 3Mbps -- but it suffices for 99% of what I want to do. However, I have upped it to the next level (12Mbps -- that's right, there's nothing between 3 and 12 -.-) to see if it works. If not, I'll have to return the player as it's defective (and it doesn't even have resume playback functionality, which I assumed it would, like my Panasonic DVD player!). And if it does, I'll have to pay double what I currently pay for internet if I want to keep that speed. THERE'S NO WINNING.

8) Clearly, it's time to calm myself again. I think this time I will use... Jeremy in glasses. I know [personal profile] adrith will appreciate this. Glasses + arms = ded. )

9) OH OH OH I have another video rec to share. It's called "Reaching as I Fall" and it's about Hawkeye and Trickshot (as in Clint's brother Barney, not his circus mentor). It's flipping awesome because not only is it well put together, the artist used NORMAN REEDUS to play the part of Barney. OMFG at how much I'd watch a Hawkeye origins movie with that kind of casting. I know [personal profile] laria_gwyn would agree with me. Right? RIGHT??? 'Reaching as I Fall' )

10) I have nothing else to say so I will leave you with some Avengers porn. You heard me. )

There are three reasons I haven't been watching The Vampire Diaries:

1) I rarely watch ANY television during its original airing. I usually watch TV on DVD, so I'm almost always a season or two behind. Shows I love like Mad Men, House, Lost, Arrested Development, Gilmore Girls, Prison Break, Rome, How I Met Your Mother, etc., I watch/watched on DVD. There are a few rare shows that I try to keep up with in real time, like Glee and S4 of Dexter, but that requires watching on Hulu or downloading a torrent, which I am too lazy to do for most shows. It sucks because this means I am more sensitive to spoilers (an entire season could be spoiled), but it's also nice because I can skip commercials AND watch episode after episode of one show and watch events unfold in a less disjointed way.

2) I hate Twilight and am resistant to anything that appears to try and win audiences over because it's trying to take advantage of the 'hot new thing.' I am skeptical there could be quality there for that reason, particularly because the 'hot new thing' it's trying to take advantage of is so low quality to begin with that it's obviously not aiming toward discerning audiences.

3) I LOVED the L.J. Smith book series. I read them as a teenage girl, before Buffy came along and made vampires cool, and it was one of my favorite series. So I was even more resistant to the show based on my skepticism that they would be able to do it well (given point #2) and my fear that they'd ruin something I had really loved. (And my fear that the series itself wouldn't stand up to the test of time.)

However, I've read and seen enough about the show at this point that I think I'm ready to give it a shot. I'm #8 in my library queue for the first season, but I think it's going to take awhile as there's only 1 copy available. Still, I thought it was going to be a show that I'd never watch, so the fact that I will do so eventually is a big step!

===

I'm also going to start watching The Shield. I don't actually know anyone who watches this show, but I've heard/read enough critical acclaim about it that I'd like to see it. I've gotten the complete series on DVD; it's kind of cool-looking, actually. It's like a big hardcover book, with little inserts for the discs.

===

My BSG Blu-Rays have come! I don't know now whether to start rewatching those or starting The Shield.

===

I'm on S7 of XF. It wasn't a bad season but I DREAD what's coming. Why did they attempt to do XF w/o DD?! Greedy fuckers. I mean, XF just isn't XF w/o Mulder and Scully. EVERYONE KNOWS THAT.

The Samantha resolution though, wtf? (The end of Closure is beautiful, however.)

Mulder constantly breaks my heart.

I'm interested in rereading my favorite fanfics from way back when, but I suspect a lot of them won't be available anymore. A lot of people took down their stories after they finally realized that having their real names associated with fanfic might not be such a good idea. I've already gone back to reread a couple, and those unfortunately did not pass the test of time.

I want to go back and rewatch S6. Again. Other than Agua Mala and Trevor it was pretty a much a perfect season, imho. Freaking Agua Mala, I spit on it.

===

I still haven't seen Lost S6. Or the latest season of House. Or of course Mad Men S4. OMG so much to catch up on! I have tons of vacation, maybe I should take some time off and just watch TV the whole time. Hey, that'd be a pretty darn relaxing vacation.

===

I also want to rewatch Buffy again. Also Firefly, which I also just got on Blu-Ray. Maybe I'll do a Whedon binge after I've watched everything else mentioned here.

Jaime feels that he is now mature and independent enough to have his own place. Therefore, he has obtained a share in a new development that was miraculously built overnight, and is now the proud owner of a new kitty condo! )

The weather deities heard my bitter tirade and things have slightly improved today. It's 64°F (which is still way too cold for summer, but better than 51°F), not raining, still cloudy, but here and there the sun is being allowed to peek out.

My shoulder is still bothering the heck out of me. I mean, in terms of injuries, it's fairly minor. It's not like it doesn't function. But when something just doesn't work/feel right, it's really disconcerting. I should be able to pick up a grocery bag or open a door or stretch my arm up without feeling a twinge of discomfort. Still going to physical therapy, but I have to say I'm kind of skeptical.

Oh no, [personal profile] ropo, what are you going to do?! Campbell Soup recalls SpaghettiOs

Speaking of R., she linked me to this awesome clip. Newsies meets Lady Gaga! Christian Bale and co. dance to "Bad Romance"! Etc. Maybe y'all aren't as big Newsies geeks as me.

TV Show Meme, Day 01 - A show that should never have been cancelled.

Like [profile] obtabius, who I gacked this from, I have to go with "Firefly." It was not only one of the most unique premises I've ever seen -- seriously, is there another show/movie/book about space cowboys? -- but so well done. The characters were rich and well developed, even though they only managed to put together a small number of episodes before being given the axe. Great cast, great writing, great direction. Unfortunately, it seems it was a bit too brilliant for the masses. (And definitely too brilliant for FOX.)

I've actually been writing (my ficathon fic), so indulge me in WoWness...

Happy happy joy joy! [livejournal.com profile] seldon says he's gotten WoW! Squee, delay in shipping notwithstanding! Now the eternal question becomes, what new character do I create? Sounds like he might want to be a gnome, which means Alliance. ONLY FOR YOU, CARLOS, WILL I BE ALLIANCE. ONLY FOR YOU. (Well, along with my two existing Alliance chars, but that's neither here nor there.)

Other random WoW things. )

Okay, so I watched "Sports Medicine" on House last night, and I just have one question: Was that guy the actor who played Noel on Felicity? Because it looked like him, but I didn't recognize his name in the guest star credits, and while I can't recall what it is, I'm sure I'd know it if I saw it. If it wasn't him, he looked freakishly like Noel on Felicity. I'm just saying. However, I am 99% positive that the woman was the actress who played that annoying girl on Dawson's Creek. She made me go all Michael Bluth when she was crying. I was like, "How can I make you never make that face again?" I don't think it was so much that she was crying badly as it is that she looked really awful doing it -- even worse than the way normal people look when we cry, not when actresses cry on screen. (For an example of really good crying, see Inara do it in "Heart of Gold" on Firefly.)

Sometimes, you can boil life down to two very simple emotions:

I love:

* akscully )

* That the buyer of my condo is as eager to close as I am, and escrow may close in the next two days!!

* Target, for having so many DVD boxsets on sale right now. I got Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill, neither of which I've ever seen. OTH sounds like the guiltiest pleasure show ever.

* House )

* Serenity )

I hate:

* Alliance, in particular those on Kilrogg )

* That my waste disposal people won't pick up my monitor for recycling, and I'll have to figure out what to do with it, myself. Grrrr. That thing is heavy.

* Having to actually write a story after I come up with the idea for it. Can't it just write itself?

* Getting a bill for something I shouldn't be getting a bill for, because then I have to sort it out.

* Setting off my house alarm accidentally and getting a call from the security people, who sound all exasperated because they have to deal with lame people like me all the time.

Massive vacation update. It's hard to imagine that I might have left something out, but I probably did. I already miss being on vacation, even though it's beyond thrilling to have my own bed and have all my stuff around me. For one thing, it's freakin' freezing here now, and it was always in the 70s and 80s on the east coast. Woe.

The good eating was had -- including Mystic Pizza and Tasti-D-Lite! )

The eating we planned to have, but didn't, alas, actually have. )

The Broadway shows we watched, including Alan Tudyk in Spamalot! )

It's only been a week and a half, but it feels like ages and ages.

I am going to see Serenity in about an hour. For the third time. I love it so. <3

When you see this on your flist, quote Firefly.

MAL: I am not married! I'm sorry. You don't shame me; you have very nice qualities, but I didn't ever marry you.

BOOK: I believe you did. Last night.

MAL: How drunk was I last night?

JAYNE: I don't know. I passed out.

MAL: Okay.

And a bonus: Quote from Serenity )

I managed to get a teeny bit of writing done while on vacation. Jade nearly finished two of her stories. O.o She's not right.

Traffic was freakishly good this morning. Is there some kind of holiday going on that I don't know about?

So did I mention that I put my condo up for sale? I can't remember. Anyway, it got listed on Thursday, and my agents (I got rid of my old agent, who I was not happy with) noted on the listing that I did not want to review offers until Monday, with the hope that I would have multiple offers to choose from. I didn't hear anything over the weekend, so I assumed that they'd been too optimistic. Well, I got a call this morning from one of the agents, and apparently there have been a couple of offers to come in, so we're going to meet tonight to go over them. O.o My mom's like, "I knew you should have asked for more." But I thought it was a reasonable price, plus my condo dues are very high -- $257/month. Just for dues! Not counting the mortgage! Anyway, I have yet to see what the actual offers entail, so I don't know that this monkey is off my back yet -- I mean, what if they suck? It'd be nice to get this settled before I leave, but it won't be the end of the world if I don't.

I had a fairly frivolous weekend.

I watched Firefly. )

I also watched some S1 House. )

There was also come college football viewing. )

I played WoW. )

Also, I wish the world to know that Jade is an Indian giver, and took back the Xbox Lego Star Wars game that she and Robbie gave me for an early bday present. Well, she claims that she accidentally packed it into her luggage by mistake and that she'll return it to me in NY, but this seems a likely story.

Firefly.

This weekend I discovered the gloriousness of Mal/Inara.

And why [livejournal.com profile] heinous_bitca hates the Alliance and named her guild The Brown Coats. :))

And why I should be very, very excited for Serenity, which comes out at the end of this month, and which Jade and I will get to see while we're in New York.

All that said, someone, anyone, please rec me Mal/Inara fics. Particularly ones where she uses her feminine wiles on him ... and succeeds. :)) But nothing that spoils for the movie, because I don't want to know a single thing about it before the fact. PLEASE REC ME TEH HAWT MAL/INARA SMUT. TY.
