Sometimes, you can boil life down to two very simple emotions:

I love:

* [livejournal.com profile] akscully. Why? Because waiting at my front door (which I did not check after returning from vacation) was this huge box. And inside the huge box was another huge box, bright red and tied with a pretty ribbon. Oh how I love boxes and ribbons! And inside this big red box with a ribbon was another box (okay, so she's not very environmentally minded; cut her some slack), and inside that box was a pretty lotus lantern!! And inside the lantern was another little box, which contained a candle! And there were two sets! Two pretty lanterns for my as-yet-unlandscaped yard! Well, now I'll have to landscape it. Thanks d00d, I love them! <33333

* That the buyer of my condo is as eager to close as I am, and escrow may close in the next two days!!

* Target, for having so many DVD boxsets on sale right now. I got Gilmore Girls and One Tree Hill, neither of which I've ever seen. OTH sounds like the guiltiest pleasure show ever.

* House. Why? Because I love a good, smart, well-written show that I don't have to pursue obsessively. I love that I can just watch one episode, stop it, and look forward to the next one. Most of the other shows I love are serialized, which means that I'm dying to know what happens next, and gorge myself on all the episodes in one weekend. With House, I can draw out the pleasure.

* Serenity. Why? Because it's a damn good movie, and comes from a damn good TV show. Firefly breaks the mold -- it's not really serialized, yet I still had to watch it obsessively. I had to know what cute little Mal/Inara moments lay in wait! Or what terrible, funny thing Jayne would say next. Anyway, back to the movie -- while there are little things I take issue with here and there (such as Mal's making River go on a job with them; I would argue that Mal from the series would be the first one to nix such a risk. But, of course, it wasn't until the 'last' episode that we find out she's a psychic, so he might have changed his tune), on the whole it was a wonderful revisit to a world I recently fell in love with. I can't decide, however, if I want them to make two more movies or revisit the TV show. At this point, I think I'll have to go with the movies. Joss has already blown his River wad; he should tell the rest of the story and then let the 'verse stand as it is. Hopefully without either Mal or Inara biting the dust.

I hate:

* Alliance, in particular those on Kilrogg. Why? Because they're morons.

Let's look at this scenario: At around 9pm last night, I logged on to play some WoW, hopefully get in some PVP action before today's maintenance. I see that Taurhorde (one of my favorite PVPers) is at Alterac, so I figure that's where the action is. I sign up for the bg, and after a bit of auctioning I'm told that I can get in. Cool deal.

When I arrive, the game I get into has already been going on for 4-5 hours. Even though it's my first AV experience, I can tell that Alliance has taken much of the ground, and raid chat pretty much confirms it -- we're probably going to lose. A lot of people (those who have been there for hours) start saying that we should just let them win, so that both sides can get honor points. From this, I glean that the game has to officially *end*, and thus both winners and losers get honor points for participating.

But people keep fighting, and eventually, I don't even know how, Horde starts to make a big push. We start to get Alliance to retreat, and pretty soon we are pwning them. We make it all the way to the top of the map. We've sacrificed much blood at the altar and our god gets called. He starts pwning Alliance left and right (they called upon their god early on, thus blowing their wad). With our god's assistance, we manage to take one of the last two of their graveyards before he goes down. At this point, all we have left is their garrison. We just have to defeat their general and their asses are grass.

Problem is, we only have 20 more minutes. Maintenance was starting two hours earlier than usual, so we were all about to get kicked off the server.

We had so pwned them. But does Alliance do the smart thing and back off so we can win, thus ending the game, and thus garnering every player honor points? NO. OF COURSE NOT. They continue to fight -- futilely, because if we can't win in 20 min., they certainly can't -- which means none of us are going to get any honor points. What freakin' idiots. So finally we get the server shutdown message, and the Horde players start to head back to Frostwolf, because we want to turn in all the crap and get as many rep points as we can before we're kicked off. So en masse, we depart the stupid Alliance garrison to go do this. Obviously if we'd had an hour or more, we could have won the game, and obviously we're not leaving because they've forced us to it. We had the upper hand; we left because banging our heads against a brick wall is stupid.

So most of us are back at Frostwolf, turning things in. Then someone wants to kill the lvl 61 dude who wanders that middle area (hey, like I said, it was my first time). A bunch of us agree, and we go to kill him as a last-minute hurrah. We're killing him, when out of the blue the Alliance shows up to once again try to engage us in PVP. They kill us as we're trying to kill this dude, and it's just THE LAMEST THING EVER. It's like, why are you such losers? Did you notice we left you alone when you were too stupid to understand that letting us win would gain us all honor points, and now none of us are getting any? Did you understand that we weren't retreating, that we don't want to play your sorry asses anymore, that we're now onto other things, since the server is going to shut down in literally 5 minutes? Rarely have I seen such a reckless display of dumbassness.

So meanwhile, the lameass Alliance starts "winning back" all the territory we'd taken from them (in quotations because since we'd totally abandoned the game by this point, what they were doing was hardly any sport), in an effort to -- I don't know. No one knew. Who knows what the hell they thought they could accomplish. We were just all like, wtf? What do they think is going to happen? Also, by this time a lot of the Horde players had dropped out, probably to get to an inn or whatever. There were 27 Horde. Those of us who stayed just wanted to see what would happen if the server shut down in the middle of an AV game -- who knows, maybe we'd get some honor points by default or something. The Alliance, however, seems to think that this is their chance to win (I told you they were sorry, pathetic losers right?), and there's still 35 of them there. They're PVP'ing like mad, even though most of us are so tired and bored that we're only half-heartedly fighting back. And hello, even if they get through us, they still have to defeat our general, the boss. Which they were not going to be able to do in two minutes. 8-|

Server shuts down. Game incomplete. Everyone likely with zero honor points for the game, since it wasn't finished. Seriously. How lame is that?????

All I can hope is that the Alliance on Silvermoon is cooler, because that's where my Alliance character is, and if we're as stupid as the Alliance on Kilrogg I will have to cry in shame.

* That my waste disposal people won't pick up my monitor for recycling, and I'll have to figure out what to do with it, myself. Grrrr. That thing is heavy.

* Having to actually write a story after I come up with the idea for it. Can't it just write itself?

* Getting a bill for something I shouldn't be getting a bill for, because then I have to sort it out.

* Setting off my house alarm accidentally and getting a call from the security people, who sound all exasperated because they have to deal with lame people like me all the time.
