[livejournal.com profile] ropo, I am looking at your photos! The first disc got some ink smudged on it (the purpley one you used to label it), so my computer is having a hard time reading the 2nd half of the photos, cry.

OMG at some of the ones you included on the 2nd disc, the older ones!! Wow I really need to lose weight, I look good in those ones of me and Forrest haha. I look so young! LOL and there's one where Trix totally looks like she's Meg White. A few cute ones of Alicia and Sharon!! And zomg the PUZZLE. It's really neat to see the progression of it. I wonder what ever happened to that puzzle. LOL when we had the sea of black pieces left.

I kinda sorta re-injured my ankle this weekend. Well, maybe that's going too far. Let's just say that I aggravated it to the point where, for a few hours, it felt achy and bad again (and proved that it's not fully healed). What happened... )

I fail at dishwashing gloves. Regularly, every few weeks, there's a hole in them, usually on one of the thumbs, and then I have to start with a new glove. I even tried buying a more expensive pair, which lasted me longer, but the other day, again, I found a hole in the thumb. Does this happen to anyone else, or am I doing something that's wearing them out so quickly/creating holes in them? I don't get it.

Food wise, I've recently made butter popovers and apple butter (basically, apple preserves), chorizo and eggs, a raspberry yogurt cake, and cabbage spring rolls (latter two not blogged about yet). I've also done my Daring Bakers challenge for this month, but I can't reveal what it was until next weekend.

So after finishing Buffy S3 for the... I don't know how many time, I have a general question/thought about the show that has occurred to me before, but that I don't think I've ever voiced out loud. Cut in case someone considers this a spoiler. )

I really need a haircut. This isn't usually something I think about until it starts being noticeably long and in my way. The woman whom I've had cutting my hair the last couple of years didn't do that great a job the last time, so I'm kind of hunting for a new place/stylist. Edit: Am trying a new salon that a coworker (whose hair I like) recommended. It's going to cost more than I have ever paid for a haircut before, but if it is good, it'll be worth it.

I have a 401k and a Roth IRA, both of which are depressing to look at right now, as you might expect. But a new year means tax returns again, and with that, the opportunity to put more into the Roth. Typically I put the maximum allowed amount into it for the year, but this year I'm thinking about holding back. But is that shortsighted of me, because surely one day, the stock market will flourish once more?

My ankle is doing really well. The dark bruising is mostly gone, and I can pretty much walk on it as normal. For awhile it would hurt at night if I slept on it too much, but even that's gone. Now it's just remembering that it IS hurt, because sometimes I'll do something that I normally would, forgetting, and my ankle will protest in pain (usually to do with kneeling).

I continue to play Word Twist way, way, way too much. I'm getting better at it though. Maybe I can train my brain to think that way (it so doesn't). I even -- for the first, and possibly last, time ever -- beat Robbie in a game. It was quite, quite exciting. She's a savant with that game, man.

I've been busy making soup, cheese straws, my grandma's special egg salad, and noodles. Yay for having easy access to homemade food again. I also have leftover pizza from Pudge Bros, but more about that and the others (hopefully with pictures) later.

I'm trying out a new lipstick. I've never been into pink, it usually makes me look sallow (whereas on SMG as Buffy it's so cute), but this one actually looks decent. It's called "Candy" from Estee Lauder.

Speaking of cosmetics and frivolity, I had the craziest/funnest/shallowest dream ever last night. I finished PD10, which I enjoyed a lot, so I know why it was on my brain. Anyway, I dreamed that I was with Lana Weinberger (from PD) and Blair Waldorf (from Gossip Girl), and after doing a bunch of shopping they took me to their hair stylist and she was going to give me a proper cut that would flatter my face. (I've always wanted to do that -- get some super talented hair stylist to show me what style I should have, then maintain it with a more affordable stylist.) I was sad because she had just started working on my hair when I woke up.

So I went to the doctor yesterday... )

I recently switched from Liberty Mutual to Allstate for my car insurance and so far I'm pretty happy. Not only do I have a lower premium, but I also get cash back every 6 months if I am accident-free in that time period. It's pretty cool.

I have some Facebook questions, for those of you who have answers:

1. Is there a way to have different security groups, like LJ?
2. It's not really an online journal, right, so there's really nowhere to post 'thoughts' or anything like that? You just kind of use the status message as the basis for conversations? Or posting pictures or whatever? And you just write on that person's 'wall' and they write on yours?
3. When someone finds you in the public system, is there a way for them to know how active you are (like they can see the last time you posted something, etc.)? I'm wondering if I can just refuse to friend certain people (like coworkers), but just let them believe that I'm not an active Facebooker (which right now, I'm not).
4. Once you've friended someone, there's no way to defriend them without them knowing and being insulted right, unless it's a mutual thing? I guess this is where the security groups question comes in also, because sometimes I don't want certain people knowing certain things, but it seems that once they're my friend, it can't be helped.

Right now I feel very limited by Facebook since it's with my real name and have real life people who know it. I like, can't post anything.

I'm back in Seattle. And working. /cry Though at least I have a job, I suppose. There have been rumors of layoffs at my company and I always get super paranoid that it's going to happen to me, which it totally could, no one is immune!

Anyway, it was a very meh return experience. Bad, even. Here's why. )

So, the last Princess Diaries book is out (#10, if you've lost track, which I wouldn't blame you for). Jade helpfully reminded me that yesterday was its release date and that Borders conveniently had a 40% off coupon that expired that day, so I should get it for reading on the plane, which I did. I'm about halfway through. My impressions so far, for those who don't want to be the least bit spoiled. )

I have an appointment today to see a doctor about my ankle. My parents were insistent about it and since it should be covered by my insurance, why not. It's actually been paining me more the last few days than it had before that, but maybe it's because I bowled on it. Yeah, not the brightest idea, but we didn't have anything else to do the last day! It's not my usual doctor, her next earliest appointment is next Thursday, and that's probably too late. I just want to make sure that I haven't done something so terrible to my ankle without realizing it, that later on down the road I'll regret that I didn't have it checked out.

I'm also looking forward to losing my holiday weight. I'm not afraid of not being able to do that; getting back into my old groove with my eating habits should take care of that fairly quickly. It's that my old eating habits weren't that great in the first place and I want to lose that weight as well. Maybe in the next couple of days I'll actually post some lofty new year's resolutions and actually try to accomplish them.

HNY!

Happy new year! I can't do the month/sentence meme since I only started LJing again in May of this year.

Well, I hope the rest of the year is better than how this one's started out, as I'm sitting here with a pretty badly sprained ankle. Yeah. It happened right after we saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I walked off the curb, but I guess I didn't realize there was a curb there, and my foot/ankle gave out. I heard a snapping sound, but don't believe anything was broken ... it was just agonizingly painful the first two days. It's actually feeling a lot better today (though I still can't put a lot of pressure on it), which is good because we're still supposed to go to Universal Studios, which would so not be possible if I were to have to painfully limp everywhere. My right foot (the injured party) was so swollen the second day that when I lined my heels up, it was like an inch longer than my left foot, and looked soooo puffy. Today they are about equal size, so yay. Luckily (or unluckily, depending on your point of view), Jade has a history of sprained ankles so she knew exactly what kind of Ace bandage to buy and showed me how to put it on, and also lent me her adjustable crutches so I could stay off the foot (although the crutches hurt my hands so much that I actually prefer limping).

As predicted there has been a lot of eating. I have a bunch of blurry photos, because restaurants have terrible lighting for taking food pictures (unless it's lunchtime and there's natural light). We've also gone to Knott's Berry Farm, and seen Valkyrie and Yes Man in addition to the aforementioned TCCoBB. We've also played some dorky, fun board games (Cranium = win).

Haven't seen as much of Jade as I might like, because her poor doggie is going through some health issues. :-( However have seen more of Robbie, which is fab. Tonight we're thinking of going to Wood Ranch, which has the best macaroni and cheese EVER. It is so, so rich and cheesy. It's delicious. Sadly we'll probably end up ordering $30 steaks just to get that as a side dish. But it is new year's, so hey! Why not.

I have pictures I'm too lazy to upload right now, but once I'm home and once again have nothing to entertain me I'm sure that will get done right away. Oh, I hope the cold there hasn't frozen my car or computer so much that they stop working, lol. It's been around 70 here every day and it's great.
