[livejournal.com profile] ropo, I am looking at your photos! The first disc got some ink smudged on it (the purpley one you used to label it), so my computer is having a hard time reading the 2nd half of the photos, cry.

OMG at some of the ones you included on the 2nd disc, the older ones!! Wow I really need to lose weight, I look good in those ones of me and Forrest haha. I look so young! LOL and there's one where Trix totally looks like she's Meg White. A few cute ones of Alicia and Sharon!! And zomg the PUZZLE. It's really neat to see the progression of it. I wonder what ever happened to that puzzle. LOL when we had the sea of black pieces left.

I kinda sorta re-injured my ankle this weekend. Well, maybe that's going too far. Let's just say that I aggravated it to the point where, for a few hours, it felt achy and bad again (and proved that it's not fully healed). What happened was that I was informed by my Le Creuset seller that LC had sent the wrong item to me -- a 5-qt version of the missing piece from my set, instead of the 3 1/2-qt that I paid for. If I wanted to keep the 5-qt, I'd have to fork over additional funds to cover the difference -- which I did not want to do. So the plan was that on Saturday, when FedEx was scheduled to deliver the wrong piece, I would refuse it.

On Saturday the doorbell rings, and of course Talis goes crazy. I have to get him and put him in the bathroom and close the door, all of which takes 5-7 seconds to do. By the time I open the door, the package is on my doorstep and the FedEx guy is in his truck, about to drive away. So I start gesturing wildly, jumping up and down, waving my arms, yelling "Wait! WAIT!" at him. He's wearing sunglasses, so I can't tell if he sees me, but when he starts pulling away I run down the steps, still waving my arms and yelling, and then he's gone. I'm barefoot so I don't try to chase him down the street, and anyway by that point my ankle was already protesting.

I ASK YOU. So then I have to call FedEx to tell him to come pick up the package, because I don't want it/am refusing it. And I'm like, "The guy is probably still in my neighborhood, this all happened just a minute ago." But FedEx being FedEx, they're like, we can't pick it up until Tuesday, so I'll have to leave it out for them on that day. SERIOUSLY. And meanwhile my ankle is hurty, and I just hope this hasn't greatly affected the full recovery process.

I already knew it wasn't fully healed, because I love sitting Indian-style, as I have short legs, and I can't do that right now without it being uncomfortable/achy. I really miss being able to do that.

I fail at dishwashing gloves. Regularly, every few weeks, there's a hole in them, usually on one of the thumbs, and then I have to start with a new glove. I even tried buying a more expensive pair, which lasted me longer, but the other day, again, I found a hole in the thumb. Does this happen to anyone else, or am I doing something that's wearing them out so quickly/creating holes in them? I don't get it.

Food wise, I've recently made butter popovers and apple butter (basically, apple preserves), chorizo and eggs, a raspberry yogurt cake, and cabbage spring rolls (latter two not blogged about yet). I've also done my Daring Bakers challenge for this month, but I can't reveal what it was until next weekend.

So after finishing Buffy S3 for the... I don't know how many time, I have a general question/thought about the show that has occurred to me before, but that I don't think I've ever voiced out loud.

It seems like a really obvious storyline -- at least enough for one episode if not a whole arc -- but we never do find out who Buffy's immediate predecessor was, do we? We learn about a few previous slayers (mostly because of Spike having killed two of them), we learn about the first slayer, and we even learn about Buffy's successors, but what poor girl died to make Buffy the next slayer? I find it odd that we never find that out, and that Buffy never -- at least "on record" -- asks.

Tying this back to Faith though (since I just finished S3), it's really strange/neat to think about her as a slayer and how much could have been different if not for the sheer timing of events. First of all, Buffy was "killed" by the Master but ended up living. If she had destroyed the Master without ever having died at all, Faith would probably never have been called. Buffy lived for years after, and even if she died at some point (and forgetting the events of the S7 finale), the slayers called after her would almost certainly not have been Kendra then Faith -- they would have been considered too old by the time that happened. (And it's kind of neat for Buffy to be the only slayer in known history to know exactly who her successors were, even if, had she died for real, it may not have been those girls exactly. Kendra maybe, but Faith maybe not. Had Buffy been dead and Kendra the only slayer, the events that led to her death might have played out differently, which would have affected whether or not Faith was called. Heehee, in that way Buffy is kind of like, a slayer grandma. Faith's grandmother.)

Then there's the fact that Buffy was alive and therefore certainly affected the events that happened once Faith was called -- and perhaps even Faith herself. We don't even know if Faith would have gone to the dark side if she had been the one and only slayer. She had the kind of personality that didn't deal well with being negatively compared with someone else -- she also didn't get to be the special, 'only' slayer that other people could look up to and depend on. Feeling that she wasn't as good as Buffy, and being constantly told to be more like Buffy -- she rebelled and went the other direction. Had Buffy not been around, would that still have happened? It's an interesting thought. I don't think it's Buffy's fault or anything -- it's just taking the facts and considering other outcomes that fascinates me.

I really need a haircut. This isn't usually something I think about until it starts being noticeably long and in my way. The woman whom I've had cutting my hair the last couple of years didn't do that great a job the last time, so I'm kind of hunting for a new place/stylist. Edit: Am trying a new salon that a coworker (whose hair I like) recommended. It's going to cost more than I have ever paid for a haircut before, but if it is good, it'll be worth it.
