Work has been hellishly busy lately. I want to say more, but frankly, to give it any more time than I already have is way more than it deserves.

My cousin and I went to Chez Shea for their 3-for-$15 lunch yesterday (her suggestion)! It was good, but I must say, I'm glad [livejournal.com profile] corianderstem and I ended up going to Crush instead. We had... )

My cousin and her husband have unpacked their super expensive copper pots and are ready to give them to me, woot!! I'm going to try and make it over there either on Sunday or on Tuesday so that we can go to the 3-for-$30 dinner at Spring Hill, as that will be the last day of the promotion. It'll depend on if the La Compagnie de Provence soap I ordered has arrived by Sunday, as I'm planning to give one of the bottles to my cousin, who loves the scent of lavender.

In house hunting news, my dad has suggested that maybe it's not a good idea to be buying a second home right now. Sigh. Honestly, he's worn me down so much by now with all his back and forth that I don't even care anymore. It's not like I'm dying to take on another mortgage, and if I miss out on this opportunity, well, it won't be the first nor, I'm sure, the last time.

Well, my bracket is pretty much ruined. Stupid Memphis. Seriously, wtf! I'm just cursed. My self-made brackets are crap, and now when I've followed a perfectly legitimate computer-generated bracket, it too is crap. Sigh.

Borders has their 40% off coupon circulating, so I took the opportunity to get City of Glass, the last book in the Mortal Instruments trilogy, and the Watchmen comic. I've heard that the movie is a lot better when you know all the backstory. :D

Sometimes, I really wish I still lived in L.A.. A ready-made list of NY-style pizza places!! If I could only find ONE such place here, I'd be happy.

I've been watching Angel again. I'm on the S2 finale, with them all stuck in Pylea. BTW [livejournal.com profile] jade_okelani, I finally see what you were on about all those years ago about the sudden change of personality in both Angel and Cordy. I still don't think I mind as much as you did/do (and I definitely agree that they could have achieved the same thing, particularly with Cordy, with a little time and patience, rather than just making it a presto-change-o thing), but at least I finally see it.

Speaking of Joss Whedon shows, I have seen the famed sixth episode of Dollhouse. Dollhouse 'Man on the Street' )

Meanwhile, I have made THE most delicious chicken carbonara two days in a row. It's very simple. Unfortunately no photos of it have come out looking as good as it tastes, so I'll just keep trying.

[livejournal.com profile] akscully! I have received your mix tape! <3 I can see it was made with love and a lot of insanity. It might have been more impressive if you'd written XQ's entire letter and announced, "Classmate Sarea, I like you!" but still, it was quite wonderful as it was. I shall treasure it always. Where did you get the songs? Are they just from a couple different albums, or are they all different? Sometimes I feel like I recognize the melody from a soundtrack or something, and then I realize that while it's familiar, it's not exactly the same.

I woke up several times in the night thinking about how tragic Natasha Richardson's death was ... I must've been thinking about it unconsciously all night. :/

I've gotten my April issue of Gourmet. I already have a method. I flip through the whole thing once, and read things here or there that catch my attention right away. Then I go through it again and read the stuff that I've bookmarked in my head as being interesting. Then I read through it a few more times more thoroughly, and catch all the stuff I've missed. It's been a long, long time since I read any magazine so avidly. I think the last time was when I was 14 and reading Seventeen magazine. I love how clean the magazine is -- at least on the subscriber copy. None of the big headlines trying to grab your attention as the checkstand versions have. I saw the cover of this issue and immediately started drooling and planning for when strawberries would be in season. I must share... Don't sue me, Gourmet. )

[livejournal.com profile] corianderstem and I went to Crush for dinner last night, and I must say, it lived up to its reputation. It was one of those fancy places that bring you a little "chair" for your purse. Given that our expectations (well, mine at least) were fairly high, it's kind of amazing that it was able to live up to them. I really, really wish I'd brought my camera. We were seated in a fairly secluded area where waitstaff wasn't passing by constantly (I'm less concerned about other patrons seeing me photograph food than servers), and the food was beautifully prepared. The restaurant is in a remodeled old home -- the restroom even had a bathtub in it! Speaking of the restroom, we both fell in love with the awesome soap they had -- La Compagnie de Provence - Liquid Marseilles Soap - Olive & Lavender. I may need to actually get it. Edit: I totally bought it, and also am trying their grapefruit version.

As for the menu... What we had... )

My dad has found a promising property. I may actually have photos and more details to share soon!

How you know when you need to lose weight: Your gardener, who sees you seldom enough that any changes in your physical appearance garners attention, says that you look like you've gained weight. >< He was quick to be all, "You look prettier with meat on your bones!" But I know the truth. OK. Losing weight was one of my new year's resolutions, which I promptly did nothing about. But when you've gained so much weight that it spurs spontaneous comments, it's time to face reality, and the scale, once more. I don't want to waste food so I'll finish what I have in the fridge, but I am going to be super careful about buying or making anything else. I'm also going to have to turn on my treadmill again. Assuming the lack of use in the last 6 months hasn't caused it to stop working entirely. I may also have to quit Daring Bakers, because having to make a whole big dessert every month is not going to help matters.

SIGH. Going on a diet when you haven't been on one in a long while is hard, because it's like a whole lifestyle change. You also have to start shrinking your stomach, which is the hardest part in the first phase, so that eating less still fills you. But in those early stages your stomach SO isn't filled, and those hunger pangs can be overwhelming!

I was playing WoW last night, and usually I ignore the Trade channel. But this really annoyed me. I know. I shouldn't read Trade. )

Not much update on the housing front. My dad is starting to drive me crazy again with his pedantic, overly thorough, analytical/critical assessments. In his mind, you can't do enough research. You have to do as much research as possible, and then when you've exhausted your avenues, you find new avenues to research some more. It makes me INSANE. I'm not against caution, but I am against caution to the point of paralyzation. In my view this is an opportunity, and with his tortoise-like ways it may just pass me by. Anyway, his latest thing is that he thinks a casita should be a top-level requirement. A casita is a separate detached room that is inaccessible from the main house that has its own bathroom and therefore can function as a living space on its own. He's looking at all the different building areas that he remembers having a casita option back in the day. We have seen ONE house so far that's had a casita. And now it's a requirement?! *pulls hair*

Going to Crush with [livejournal.com profile] corianderstem tonight. Yay! I forgot my camera. Boo.

Edit: Dollhouse's 6th ep is this Friday. This is supposedly when Joss wrested control back. Here's an interview he did regarding the episode and the show in general.

1. It snowed again. Pretty sure I didn't sign up for this. This just better not mean that spring/summer is delayed even further this year. I hate the cold.

2. Watched K-HYD ep 20. Finally JD is GJP's personal maid! And poor, poor GE. But it's okay because her relationship with YJ totally had to take this path or it would never work out. Also, whenever I watch this show I have this craving for ramen. It always looks so good when they're eating it. Which is ridiculously often.

3. Am still in the process of looking for house #2. So many on the market that we haven't even begun to really narrow them down. My dad is supposedly going to go around taking pictures of the exterior and interior (the benefit of having a mom who dabbles at being a real estate agent is the ability to get into houses with lockboxes w/o having to call another agent). The vast majority are 1-story homes, not sure why that is, but I'd prefer a 2-story. When/if I get any photos and more details, I will be sharing so I can get your guys's opinions.

4. Played many, many games of Word Twist. Lost nearly all. Sigh. Damn you, [livejournal.com profile] ropo.

5. My monitor is spazzing. :( It was working just fine the day before, but yesterday when I turned it on it started doing some massive flickering. It was constant. I have a spare monitor so I'm not completely freaking, but this one is my 24" and fairly new still. Sigh. The sort-of-good news is that after a couple of hours it stopped and worked normally. This morning it went through the same process -- flickering for awhile and now it's fine. But it doesn't bode well. Since it seems to do it whenever it's turned off for a period of time, maybe the solution is simply to never turn it off...

6. Had a weird conversation with an old WoW "friend." I'm not sure what to call him. I'm cutting this as only [livejournal.com profile] jade_okelani and [livejournal.com profile] akscully have ever met him, so others may find this information less than interesting. So out of the blue... )
