1) If you're going to a meet-the-author thing, and there's going to be around 30 people there, and it's company-sponsored so it's not like these are going to be the author's greatest fans in the world, how many books do you think you could get signed without it seeming rude/greedy? And are paperbacks (trade) even worth getting signed? I'm leaving in about 45 min. for the Meg Cabot thing so insight here would be v. appreciated.

2) Why is it that when you open a new box of tissue, they always put two tissues in the first pull?

I say two or three. When I went to the Tom Robbins thing, he refused to sign anything, but he's a bastard anyway. She'd probably enjoy the attention since it's a small thing.

He refused to sign things? That's so -- wrong. I've never been to one of these things where the author refused to sign books afterward, and I don't see Meg Cabot starting that trend. :)) Thanks for the input.

Mmmmm Liam.

1) I would guess 2-3. Or, you could just be conformist, take as many as you like, and then see how many all the other people get signed. Probably what I would do. And as for the paperback thing, as long as you're not like me (I fold over pages and am a book-spine's worst nightmare) then they should be good to go.

2) I think its because they expect you to be 'dainty' *scoffs* when pulling tissues out and the second one is meant to stay in the box but stick out. Kleenex's standard of dainty however is rather high. Elitists.

Did you see the picture Steph drew of the King's Cross scene? It's amazing! I wrote semi-smutty!Liam last night.

Yes, Tom Robbins is a bastard. It was $100 a person to have lunch with him - he refused to sign anything or have pictures taken. I went for free because work sponsored it, but it did nothing for my opinion of him.

I've met a lot of authors, all of them very nice, until I met him. Dude, trust me, most people don't even know who you are so drop the holier than thou attitude. *rolls eyes*

1) Well, as usual, I will probably be the first one, because my time away from work is not unlimited and I have to scoot out of there pretty quickly. But 2-3 seems to be the going rate so far, so that's a good base to work with. :D And yeah, I'm pretty anal with my books, so the paperback's in great condition ... but if I'm limited to 2 books, I won't get that one signed.

2) No, I mean ... I know that all the succeeding tissues stay in the box but "stick out" for easy removal later. However, my experience has been that when you open a new box of tissue, the first pull is inevitably two tissues, which they have layered together. And the third tissue is the one that "sticks out." <g> Meanwhile, the second tissue is rather messily stuffed back into the box for future use. It's so annoying!

I'd say 2 to 3 as well. Seems a nice, non-ridiculous range. I don't see a problem with getting trade paperbacks signed...I've had authors (well, Terry Pratchett) sign MM paperbacks before. I don't think they care, and if a paperback's what you've got, go for it.

I have hardcovers and paperbacks, and was trying to use that as a way of determining which to get signed and which not. ; ) You can bet that if all I had were MM paperbacks, I'd so get them signed.

The illustration was, indeed, amazing. She's so talented! I haven't gotten a chance to read the semi-smut yet, but Steph's a lucky gal!!

Honestly, re: Tom Robbins. I'm not a huge TR fan, and in fact have yet to finish a novel by him. This insight into his personality does not make me want to run out and do that, however.

I wasn't fond of him before and now I really don't like him. He's very full of himself. We have his papers - he made us pay $50,000 for his stupid manuscripts just because he attended my college. If the little fans only knew what he was really like...he dismissed me like I was non existent. They come in, fawning over his handwritten notebooks and extolling how wonderful he is - if they only knew.

Now, Sherri Reynolds - delightful gal! Don't like her writting, but she's very nice!! David Robbins spoke last year, he's a delight, very funny to boot.

Hmm, okay, new theory (& more likely). Kleenex find that if they squeeze in that extra tissue, they can charge you that extra penny. Ooh, and having it so that two come out at the same time is due to their hope that you'll just throw away the extra and so need to buy a new box just that bit sooner. Has to be the answer.
