1) If you're going to a meet-the-author thing, and there's going to be around 30 people there, and it's company-sponsored so it's not like these are going to be the author's greatest fans in the world, how many books do you think you could get signed without it seeming rude/greedy? And are paperbacks (trade) even worth getting signed? I'm leaving in about 45 min. for the Meg Cabot thing so insight here would be v. appreciated.

2) Why is it that when you open a new box of tissue, they always put two tissues in the first pull?

1) I would guess 2-3. Or, you could just be conformist, take as many as you like, and then see how many all the other people get signed. Probably what I would do. And as for the paperback thing, as long as you're not like me (I fold over pages and am a book-spine's worst nightmare) then they should be good to go.

2) I think its because they expect you to be 'dainty' *scoffs* when pulling tissues out and the second one is meant to stay in the box but stick out. Kleenex's standard of dainty however is rather high. Elitists.

1) Well, as usual, I will probably be the first one, because my time away from work is not unlimited and I have to scoot out of there pretty quickly. But 2-3 seems to be the going rate so far, so that's a good base to work with. :D And yeah, I'm pretty anal with my books, so the paperback's in great condition ... but if I'm limited to 2 books, I won't get that one signed.

2) No, I mean ... I know that all the succeeding tissues stay in the box but "stick out" for easy removal later. However, my experience has been that when you open a new box of tissue, the first pull is inevitably two tissues, which they have layered together. And the third tissue is the one that "sticks out." <g> Meanwhile, the second tissue is rather messily stuffed back into the box for future use. It's so annoying!

Hmm, okay, new theory (& more likely). Kleenex find that if they squeeze in that extra tissue, they can charge you that extra penny. Ooh, and having it so that two come out at the same time is due to their hope that you'll just throw away the extra and so need to buy a new box just that bit sooner. Has to be the answer.
