I forgot my phone at home this morning. I realized I'd forgotten my jacket and had considered going back for that (fall has set upon us with a vengeance. It's like a flip was switched), but didn't realize I didn't have my phone until I got to the stop. >< Ughghgh. If I'd known that, I would have gone back for them both. My first thought was for my farm in Township, which not will not be updated alllll day. :( My second thought was for the fact that I wouldn't be able to answer email or dial in to meetings while on the bus. Bah.

You know what I did on the bus though? Read more of Andy Weir's The Martian. The first time I heard about this book was seeing a movie poster for it with Matt Damon's face. Now I see I'm the last to the party, as usual. It has over 13,000 reviews on Amazon and 4.5 stars. O.o I am LOVING it so far.

I finally read a story I think can serve as my "ending" for Gilmore Girls. It's short, and doesn't wrap up the Luke/Lorelai stuff, but all I really care about is Rory/Logan, so here it is: The Things You Must Remember. I don't know why it repeats itself, center spaced, halfway through... Just ignore that. There aren't a whole lot of fics on AO3 to be had for the ship, but that isn't surprising. While GG was on I don't think AO3 even existed, so all that's available are the stories that active authors have proactively posted there. I'm sure there were some really good ones back in the day that I've now missed out on, but I'm not sure I can make myself wade into the cesspool that is fanfiction.net on the off chance that they might be there.

In Seahawks news, they might sign Fred Jackson? What? I mean, I seriously like the guy, but do you really want someone else's iconic franchise player on your team? What can a 34-year-old running back actually have to offer? The scariest thing is what this says about our RB depth. Ouch.

My fantasy football league is doing its draft on Sept. 3, and I am determined not to miss it this year.

Meanwhile, Mad Max: Fury Road has been delivered by Amazon and is waiting for me at home. :D

I leave you with another cute image of Rory and Logan!

This is all [personal profile] adelagia's fault.

Actually no, I must go further back.

It's all Adam Brody's fault.

No wait, have to go even further than that.

It's all Alison Brie's fault!

You see, I somehow found out about her new romcom, Sleeping With Other People. As an aside, it looks... OK. Pretty generic as far as romcoms go, unfortunately. Nothing in particular stood out to make me think it was any funnier or cuter than others of its ilk. It has a really great supporting cast, though, which includes two Adams that [personal profile] adelagia and I love -- Adam Scott and Adam Brody. (In fact, we wished Alison's character ended up with ANY male character but the one she's going to end up with. Nothing against Jason Sudeikis, but he's just not romcom hero material.)

So we started talking about the Adams (over eggplant moussaka durums at Café Turko -- YUM), and I mentioned that I loved Adam Brody and couldn't understand why Alison would cheat on him (in the movie). Except I couldn't remember why I loved Adam Brody, because I never saw The OC. Then [personal profile] adelagia hit on it: "He was Lane's boyfriend!"

OHHHHHHHHHHH. Riiiiiiiiiight! Lane was Rory's best friend on Gilmore Girls (and quite an awesome character in her own right). Except when we brought up Gilmore Girls, we couldn't then not talk about the best ship on that show -- Logan/Rory. Much reminiscing about the wonderfulness of that ship ensued (okay, okay, reminiscing about the ship and also Matt Czuchry, who has been featured in BOTH our heads as characters in stories we were writing, without consulting one another). It was a complete crime the way the show ended. Rory should have ended up with him. Or better yet, Logan shouldn't have made the ultimatum that would have been impossible for her to accept (and frankly, was rather out of character for him). Apparently Luke/Lorelai shippers were no better off -- [profile] jade_okelani was a huge proponent of that ship, and she says the final season basically ruined the whole thing. It's been quite some time since I saw the series, so all the details escape me (clearly, since I couldn't even remember Adam Brody was Lane's boyfriend), but there has to be a point in season 6 when everyone was happy... I kind of feel like I want to identify what that ep is, then rewatch the series until that point and declare "THE END."

In any case, [personal profile] adelagia then followed up (okay, see, I was right to start with, this is at least partly her fault) with a Rory/Logan summary video (alas, not comprehensive). I decided not to watch that, and instead want to find a compilation video of their entire relationship (minus the end) so that we can enjoy it together the next time we meet up. Only... GG is so old that all the videos available online are outdated/grainy (how did we WATCH this stuff before HD?!), and no one seems to have done a supercompilation (I'm very disappointed in you, Internet).

While looking for the nonexistent supercompilation, I couldn't help but watch some of their scenes together (I'M ONLY HUMAN). It made me fall in love with them all over again. I love how they start out antagonistically (don't all the best ships start out that way?), then fall in love and start dating (he was a commitment phobe before, so Rory is his first girlfriend)... for THREE YEARS. I always complain that when two characters get together on TV shows, it inevitably spells death for the relationship, because in order to create drama, showrunners then have to pry them apart. Rory and Logan had their ups and downs for sure, but at the end of the day, they were a pretty successful ship even once they got together. Which makes the show ending even more frustrating and wrong. -.-

But anyway... here's one of the clips I enjoyed when indulging in YouTube vids yesterday. Rory's been unwittingly cornered by her grandparents into talking to their minister about preserving "her precious gift." Lawl. She has some bad news for the reverend, though. And then she gets to tell Logan!

(By the by, the guy who plays Lane's boyfriend in this vid is not Adam Brody.)

Signed my closing papers this morning for my refi. Yay! Not only is Chase paying all the closing costs, I am going to set up autowithdrawal with them (which I currently do anyway, just with another bank), because doing so will give me 1% of my mortgage payment back. Hey, that is no small thing! And anyway it only requires a small change on my part.

Currently in the oven: a tomato tart from one of the Canal House Cooking volumes. I love those cookbooks, even if they're all blase about certain ingredients. "Steam two lobsters..." "Thinly slice a fresh black truffle..." "Pull the lobes of the foie gras apart..." "Use a pinch of saffron..." Yeah, okay, let me just hop into my Rolls Royce and I'll get right on it. Luckily they do also have recipes that the common folk can use, too. It's done! Turned out rather well, I think. )

I've finally started watching Supernatural, which Jade recced years ago. It's basically the X-Files with two young dudes, lol. I'm enjoying it so far, but I honestly don't know how long I can last with it because there's nothing to ship. I know, the online community ships Sam/Dean, but they're BROTHERS. I just can't go there. I do enjoy their interactions a lot, though. I thought Sam's girlfriend Jessica was a bit too standard bubble-gum blonde. Right now, between the two brothers I actually prefer Dean, though I don't actually find him very attractive. Then again I also don't find Jared Padalecki attractive, either (maybe THAT'S why I doubt how long I'll last w/ the show), never really have. When he was on Gilmore Girls and Rory was torn between him and Logan, I was so Logan all the way. Mmm Matt Czuchry.

I've been watching Percula's The Craft of War: Blind again, and it's just so unspeakably awesome. It actually makes me feel a tinge of possibly wanting to play WoW again, which is quite an accomplishment. Apparently he's lost interest in WoW himself and won't be making the TCoW series with all the classes as he had originally intended, which does make me a sad panda for the awesomeness that might have been.

I've updated my profile interests, and I can't believe I'm the only person in the LJ community interested in Rhaegar/Lyanna. How is this POSSIBLE?

I'm not the greenest person ever, but I do try and be conscientious of my carbon footprint, particularly when it comes to REALLY EASY things that take almost no effort to do. And it drives me crazy when people -- supposedly intelligent, informed people -- can't do the same. Two of my biggest pet peeves:

- Writing only on ONE SIDE of pages in a notebook. Write on the other side, which is completely blank, for pete's sake! Related: printing a number of documents, or something with many pages, on one side of a sheet of paper.

- Using a recyclables trash can as a normal trash can, which is right next to it. Is it really that hard to comprehend what is recyclable and what isn't, or to make the effort to notice what fucking trash can you're putting something into? It's not like they're asking us to sort between the various kind of recyclables -- everything from paper to plastic to aluminum can go into one bin. Food, tea bags, the like? The other bin. IT'S NOT THAT HARD PEOPLE.

I see this behavior constantly at work. It makes me insane. What galls me is how EASY it is. It's not like anyone has to go out of their way to be responsible, or that I'm some extremely serious environmentalist who's just being freakish and hard on them. God!

Last week I received an email to see a screening of Mamma Mia. It was from The Screening Exchange, which is an LA program. I am not in LA. Therefore I could not go to the screening. Cry. And this is why I hate Trix, who did get to see it.

I've bit(ten?) the bullet and hired someone to put together the treadmill. It's going to cost around $175, which is a lot, but considering the time and stress I'll save from having to do it myself (and getting it done by someone who knows what they're doing), it'll be worth every penny. Plus they're coming on Monday -- and who knows when I'd get around to it? The only thing is that I had originally wanted to put it in my bedroom ... but apparently getting the thing moved would require hiring other people to do, because it's so damn heavy. >< So I've cleared a space in the downstairs "fun room," which is probably just as well, because now I can watch TV while on the treadmill. Well, it has a built-in TV, so I could have done that before, but it doesn't have a DVD player!

I've watched more DVDs/shows -- kind of cont. from my other entry about this. )

I haven't forgotten that I owe you guys pictures. I just want to get them all taken before I post, that's all. So it's not too late if you want to make a request! I can't believe no one has requested to see Logan's car, which I (used to) see all the time.

So, I've been watching S1 Gilmore Girls. )

***

I've also finally seen the first few episodes of Alias S5. Spoilers galore! )

Wow. Who knew Forbes could be this creative/insane? It's their "top 15 richest fictional characters" list (pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] rainpuddle13). I must say, I take issue with some of their choices (especially the ordering). However, I am vastly amused that Lucius Malfoy made the list, and am tickled by the profile they did on him. Heehee!

Here's the top 15. )

And now, for the best quiz ever, gacked from [livejournal.com profile] heinous_bitca, My RL WoW Race/Class! )

For those of you who have been around that long, you might remember that waaaay back in December 2004, I posted a rant about T-Mobile, and that, I quote: At the end of my required period with them, I am leaving no matter the incentive. I have never been treated so appallingly; I've never experienced such tactics at the hand of a large, thriving business that has nothing to lose and everything to gain by exhibiting even one iota of understanding toward its customers. And as someone who has a very long memory, and who can bear a grudge, particularly when I have been as grievously wronged as T-Mobile wronged me, I canceled my account today and went with Cingular. :D Really, everyone should switch mobile service providers every couple of years anyway, because in today's culture it's only new customers, not loyal customers, who get all the perks. So now not only have I ditched the HORRIBLE AND REPULSIVE T-MOBILE, I have also: a) got a new, free camera phone; b) enrolled in a service plan that has free mobile-to-mobile minutes (unlike some companies that charge monthly for such a service); and c) enrolled in a service plan that has *rollover* minutes, which is just the best thing ever -- it means that if I don't use up all my allotted minutes in a month, they get rolled over to the next month. Do I even need to say that at T-Mobile, those minutes simply disappear? All good selling points. But I have to admit that the biggest selling point really is FUCK YOU, T-MOBILE.

We had lots of snow yesterday. I love snow. And walking in it. I love the crunchy squeakiness of it. But I hate the days after it snows, when it starts to melt and turn into gray slush and makes roads slippery and what not. So really, the solution is to live somewhere where it snows one day, then is 90 degrees the next day so it all melts away cleanly.

Forgot to say: Meeting with Julie tomorrow to go to a bar and watch the UCLA-USC game. I actually didn't want to be anywhere in public, because odds are we're gonna get creamed, but she insisted. I just hope we give them a run for their money. I want to play a good game; I hope that's not too much to ask. :-S

Remember that meme from way long ago where people took pictures of things that were requested of them, because they had or were getting digital cameras around that time? Well, I'm slow as always, but now that I finally have a digital camera, I want to take pictures of things! So ask and ye shall receive. (Pics of Christian Bale in the nude may take me awhile, but never fear, one day I'll have my company, Stalkers Inc., up and running.)

In the meanwhile, my dog is the unfortunate victim of my picture-taking escapades. Usually it's of him sleeping (sometimes in really strange, contorted ways), because that's basically what he does all day. I think he's awake like four hours out of every day, if that. The rest of the time, he's sleeping. Is that normal? I mean, I know it's partly due to the fact that I'm playing WoW so much, but it's possible I would curb my playing if he weren't sleeping all the time, giving me license to play more. It's a vicious cycle.

I have finally started to watch my Gilmore Girls DVDs. I've never even seen one episode before now. Is it wrong that when I saw Chad Michael Murray in other places, I thought he was heinous, and then when he showed up on GG I was like, "Hey, he's such a punk, I might actually like him!"? (This is why the Hatsumi/Shinogu shippers tried so hard to get me to see the error of my ways.)

Robbie's meme. )

To conclude: Make me take pictures of things!
