sarea: (go crazy)
I have SO MUCH to update on, but I don't have the same kind of time I used to at work (where I did most of my updating). :/ So this is a run by to say EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE WE ARE FINALLY GETTING A VERONICA MARS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The phenomenal success of the Kickstarter project means that the story has made the rounds, and probably anyone who ever loved Veronica Mars already knows about this, but I figured I'd make this post JUST IN CASE someone hasn't and wants to contribute. I have various conflicting thoughts about Kickstarter, but nothing coherent enough to really put out there for the moment. I can, however, say that I am truly glad that the effort for VM has turned out so well, and I'm excited for the movie.

I wanted to donate the minimum just for the principle of it, but after seeing all the cool rewards I ended up going way beyond that. >.> I have 29 days to decide if I really want to commit to that, lol.

Anyway, I love the fun little video they did to encourage people to contribute. I can't find a way to embed it, so you need to go to the Kickstarter page to view. May I say, Ryan Hansen has gotten hotter in the intervening years. Reading between the lines it sounds like nearly all the cast members are on board, so dare I hope we'll get some Dick/Mac? That'd be nice, but of course what everyone's clamoring for, myself included, is Logan/Veronica.

Seriously, the response on Kickstarter actually made me feel kind of teary. I KNEW VERONICA MARS FANS WERE STILL OUT THERE. I've never been prouder of being a fan of something.

Happy birthday to my dearest [personal profile] ropo today!

I finished ep 14 of Glee S3 last night. I'm just going to avoid talking about the "plot" shenanigans, as it is too crazy, incoherent, and frankly stupid to discuss. Instead, I am going to share with you my favorite cover songs from the season so far. Sadly some of the actual performances on the show aren't available on YouTube, but the songs themselves are. Yay fun music! )

I found this great Logan/Veronica video yesterday, and watching it reminded me of how much I'd loved that ship (the ship acronym was actually LoVe!) once upon a time... which made me pissed off all over again wrt what they did to it. F*ck you, Rob Thomas. The first season of Veronica Mars was amazing. It was so good that Joss Whedon was gaga over it (which was what made me interested in watching it), which he says himself he rarely gets over anything that isn't his own project.

The problem was, it was conceived of as a one-season show, and after that one season, things started falling apart. By the third (and last) season, it no longer resembled the great show it'd once been. One of the hugest mistakes they made was what they did with Logan and Veronica. (And maybe Logan specifically. But Veronica too. And the two together.) Logan was the Damon/Spike of the series. He wasn't intended to be the male lead or Veronica's primary love interest, or play such a big role, but he ended up doing so because the fans loved him, and loved them together. It got so that they let the other actor (the one who played her actual boyfriend) go, because, according to Rob Thomas, "it became clear that one suitor won out."

So they KNEW what the fans liked. And yet instead of nurturing that interest, they basically blew up the LoVe relationship, and not in the typical little bullshit ways to keep the viewers interested and wanting them to be together. Instead, they drove huge, gaping chasms between them in ways that were irreparable, or nearly so. I've never understood their reasoning for doing this. Were they resentful of the fact that people enjoyed Logan more than they were supposed to? Were they trying to kill the ship, which was cutting off their noses to spite their faces, since, as is the case with many shows I love, VM was a critical but not ratings darling? I just don't know if they did what they did out of ignorance, stupidity, or some misguided attempt to try and either kill the ship or keep people interested (???). In any case, what they did was destroy it, and since the show itself was faltering anyway, there was really nothing left to watch for, by the end.

Wow. I had no idea I still felt so strongly about it after all this time. LOL. Anyway, if you were ever a LoVe fan, it's a good vid that will make you nostalgic (and maybe mad when you remember the rest of it).

I'm not the greenest person ever, but I do try and be conscientious of my carbon footprint, particularly when it comes to REALLY EASY things that take almost no effort to do. And it drives me crazy when people -- supposedly intelligent, informed people -- can't do the same. Two of my biggest pet peeves:

- Writing only on ONE SIDE of pages in a notebook. Write on the other side, which is completely blank, for pete's sake! Related: printing a number of documents, or something with many pages, on one side of a sheet of paper.

- Using a recyclables trash can as a normal trash can, which is right next to it. Is it really that hard to comprehend what is recyclable and what isn't, or to make the effort to notice what fucking trash can you're putting something into? It's not like they're asking us to sort between the various kind of recyclables -- everything from paper to plastic to aluminum can go into one bin. Food, tea bags, the like? The other bin. IT'S NOT THAT HARD PEOPLE.

I see this behavior constantly at work. It makes me insane. What galls me is how EASY it is. It's not like anyone has to go out of their way to be responsible, or that I'm some extremely serious environmentalist who's just being freakish and hard on them. God!

Last week I received an email to see a screening of Mamma Mia. It was from The Screening Exchange, which is an LA program. I am not in LA. Therefore I could not go to the screening. Cry. And this is why I hate Trix, who did get to see it.

I've bit(ten?) the bullet and hired someone to put together the treadmill. It's going to cost around $175, which is a lot, but considering the time and stress I'll save from having to do it myself (and getting it done by someone who knows what they're doing), it'll be worth every penny. Plus they're coming on Monday -- and who knows when I'd get around to it? The only thing is that I had originally wanted to put it in my bedroom ... but apparently getting the thing moved would require hiring other people to do, because it's so damn heavy. >< So I've cleared a space in the downstairs "fun room," which is probably just as well, because now I can watch TV while on the treadmill. Well, it has a built-in TV, so I could have done that before, but it doesn't have a DVD player!

I've watched more DVDs/shows -- kind of cont. from my other entry about this. )

I haven't forgotten that I owe you guys pictures. I just want to get them all taken before I post, that's all. So it's not too late if you want to make a request! I can't believe no one has requested to see Logan's car, which I (used to) see all the time.

So, I've been watching S1 Gilmore Girls. )

Wow. Who knew Forbes could be this creative/insane? It's their "top 15 richest fictional characters" list (pointed out by [livejournal.com profile] rainpuddle13). I must say, I take issue with some of their choices (especially the ordering). However, I am vastly amused that Lucius Malfoy made the list, and am tickled by the profile they did on him. Heehee!

Here's the top 15. )

And now, for the best quiz ever, gacked from [livejournal.com profile] heinous_bitca, My RL WoW Race/Class! )

For those of you who have been around that long, you might remember that waaaay back in December 2004, I posted a rant about T-Mobile, and that, I quote: At the end of my required period with them, I am leaving no matter the incentive. I have never been treated so appallingly; I've never experienced such tactics at the hand of a large, thriving business that has nothing to lose and everything to gain by exhibiting even one iota of understanding toward its customers. And as someone who has a very long memory, and who can bear a grudge, particularly when I have been as grievously wronged as T-Mobile wronged me, I canceled my account today and went with Cingular. :D Really, everyone should switch mobile service providers every couple of years anyway, because in today's culture it's only new customers, not loyal customers, who get all the perks. So now not only have I ditched the HORRIBLE AND REPULSIVE T-MOBILE, I have also: a) got a new, free camera phone; b) enrolled in a service plan that has free mobile-to-mobile minutes (unlike some companies that charge monthly for such a service); and c) enrolled in a service plan that has *rollover* minutes, which is just the best thing ever -- it means that if I don't use up all my allotted minutes in a month, they get rolled over to the next month. Do I even need to say that at T-Mobile, those minutes simply disappear? All good selling points. But I have to admit that the biggest selling point really is FUCK YOU, T-MOBILE.

We had lots of snow yesterday. I love snow. And walking in it. I love the crunchy squeakiness of it. But I hate the days after it snows, when it starts to melt and turn into gray slush and makes roads slippery and what not. So really, the solution is to live somewhere where it snows one day, then is 90 degrees the next day so it all melts away cleanly.

Forgot to say: Meeting with Julie tomorrow to go to a bar and watch the UCLA-USC game. I actually didn't want to be anywhere in public, because odds are we're gonna get creamed, but she insisted. I just hope we give them a run for their money. I want to play a good game; I hope that's not too much to ask. :-S
