I never know what to get my mother for Mother's Day. This year, the dilemma has been taken out of my hands. Just spoke to my mom. Our conversation went like this:

Mom: So what have you gotten me?
Me: Nothing yet. What do you want?
Mom: Wellllll ... I've already purchased your Mother's Day gift for me.
Me: I see.
Mom: It's a Dooney & Bourke purse.
Me: How nice of me!
Mom: Isn't it? I figured this would be better than flowers or something.
Me: Nice to know what you think of my flowers.
Mom: You can pay me back when I see you.
Me: Fine.

Is nothing sacred anymore?!

I worked almost all weekend. It sucked. But I did see I Capture the Castle -- here's what I thought of it: Extremely disappointing. I haven't yet read the book, but I'd heard great things about it and kind of wanted to save it for [livejournal.com profile] literocracy. I still do want to read it, and will try mightily not to let the movie influence my thinking, but who knows if I'll be successful?

It's not so much that it didn't end all lalala happy, because I'm okay with that. Especially in books. But I'm kind of giving the book the benefit of the doubt that it is more cohesive and the characters less annoying than in the movie, which is not that high a bar.

I haaaaaaaaated Rose. I also hated Simon. I didn't bear too much love for the main character, either -- I can't even remember her name right now. She was just so stupid. Initially she seemed tolerable, cute even. And then she fell in love w/ Simon because, what? He kissed her? Whilst being engaged to her sister, who he was "in love" with??? Gawd, give me a fucking break. And meanwhile, there's poor Stephen, who was not only cute, but behaved wonderfully ... and he got the shaft! For loser Henry Thomas! Ugh.

I actually liked Neil (I've discovered that I like Marc Blucas just fine; it's really Riley who was intolerable), except he had a big black mark against him because he liked Rose, whom I have already mentioned I hated.

The "romances" didn't feel romantic at all, and I was rather looking forward to that part of it. There was no chemistry between any of the actors, and the idiot father made me wish I could kill him with my butter knife. The stepmom was okay. She and Neil should have gotten together, and then maybe I would have been happy w/ the film.

Alias: Legacy

Lauren and Sark roxors, even though Sark barely had any lines in this ep. Are they getting rid of David Anders? Because they don't seem to be doing a whole hell of a lot with him lately. The only thing I don't like about Lark at the moment is that Sark seems rather dickless. OMG Lauren with the rocket launcher? <33333 It's amazing how much I disliked her before, and now she's one of my favorite characters.

Vaughn. Ugh. If he got any stupider he'd be starring in a movie with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. You know, just because you made a total ass of yourself wrt Lauren doesn't mean that that's anyone else's priority.

Sloane has lost favor with me (well, as much as he had) in this ep. Either be a mushy dad or be single minded in your ambition. Now you're just wishy washy, and I have no respect for that. Plus, what, everyone seems to know that Jack saved Sloane from certain lethal injectiony death, and is okay with it -- to the point where his actions don't even need to be explained??? WTF???????

Jack/Katya, huh? Now it's One Big Incestuous Spy Family. It's interesting, though. I'm not a huge Jack lover like many others, but if I shipped him with anyone it would be Irina. (That has dimmed somewhat with the confirmation that she had an affair with Sloane, however.) I don't blame him for boffing her sister, though, considering Sloane and Nadia -- I just wonder where JJ & Gang are going with this. Are they giving up on Lena Olin, and Katya is supposed to be Jack's new twu wuv? Or is he just using her? What about Katya's motivations? I don't doubt that she finds Jack attractive, but I do doubt that that's all there is to it. There are implications here, particularly since it's clear Jack and Irina had been starting to be all lovey again (which had always been rather inexplicable to me). Does Katya hold a grudge against her sister in some way? Did Irina ask Katya to come on to Jack to see if he would respond? Oh, those Derevko women. And is she a captain or a colonel? The people doing the subtitles couldn't seem to decide.

I kind of wanted Nadia to die. Not because I hate her, but because she doesn't really interest me at this point. As for Rambaldi's message ... yeah, don't give a shit about that, either. I have no faith that it will be anything that stunning. Hope they prove me wrong.

Oh, and for those of you who are interested, I've posted the answers to the lyrics meme. (Read the edit to see how to view.)

All I have to say about this episode is that Vaughn. Is. An. Irritant. Ugh! GAWD. Was it just me or was he just extra annoying in this one?!? I mean, OKay. We get it. You're extremely pissed about Lauren betraying you but d00d, do you HAVE to make an ASS of yourself because of it? Jeez. At one point, I was actually rooting for Lauren to just TAKE HIM OUT with the rocket launcher!

I say Sydney should just run off with Sark to some exotic island somewhere where they'll live happily ever after and eventually make lots of cute lil' babies, while Lauren and Vaughn duke it out! Hee! Now wouldn't that be interesting! :)) *waves Sarkney flags*

Also re Jack/Katya - *eyeroll* Honestly! Where in the hell could THIS possibly lead to??

And lastly, re everyone being just okay and not in the least surprised that Sloane is alive, I echo your WTF?!?! 'Coz now, JJ's got some 'splainin to do!

All in all, this episode was somewhat of a disappointment to me. Let's just hope JJ & Gang's got a kick-ass, "You've got to be shitting me!" finale to present us in 3 weeks time. Don't let us down, JJ!

I've actually found Vaughn to be more irritating than in this ep, but at this point I'm so done with him that it's really hard to say. I mean, now I can't work up the same kind of annoyance/hatred that I used to, because I just don't care about him anymore. Woulda been cool if Lauren had taken him out. Hhahahahahaa.

Perhaps I was most irked w/ Vaughn when he was yelling at Weiss. DON'T YOU YELL AT WEISS. *shakes fist*

I still like Sarkney, in theory, but the Sark and Sydney that I ship are from S1 and S2. This season, Syd hasn't impressed me much, and they've done next to nothing with Sark. I need them both to be strong characters in order to really ship them together, and I haven't seen that in awhile. So that has dimmed a bit. Plus if they actually do anything more with it, Lark could be pretty interesting.

I found myself thinking -- and meant to talk about this in my post -- that I might get into Vaughn/Lauren at this point. Theoretically, at least, because now they have this history and hatred and it could actually be good. :D However, for that to really work, I'd have to be more interested in Vaughn than I am. Objectively, it could work.

Yes, the most incredible part of the whole episode was that Jack broke a HUGE LAW by saving Sloane, and there wasn't a single word about it!! Not even the slightest rebuke, like, "Hey man, when a well-known criminal has been given the death penalty, you're like, not supposed to revive him and junk."

Yeah I was yelling at the TV over that. I thought that scene where he kissed her in the woods and they starting rolling on the ground to be very erotic. But then...she wanted the other guy. I was just confused and mad. I tried to explain to my husband, "see this guy is totally hot, sweet, and in love with her, and this other guy is not."

He was laughing at me for getting so upset over the whole thing.

I had great hopes that when the woods thing happened, something would come of it. Maybe she would discover that hey, another male is also capable of kissing!

It wouldn't have bothered me if her liking Simon hadn't come from left field. I mean, literally, she had shown no interest up until the point when he kissed her. So that leaves me to draw the conclusion that she fell in love with him from a kiss, which is just so. lame. And why did he kiss her at all?! That was never satisfactorily explained. If he'd been harboring a secret attraction for her, that would be one thing -- but it's later established that he was in love with Rose!! So he just did it because he could? Because she was there and Rose wasn't? How is this a man I'm supposed to like/want the main character to be with? Ugh.

Must use icon of a real hero so I remember what one is supposed to be.
