help me clean my stove! :P

OK, who's good at cleaning things and can give me some tips? I discovered that there is a pretty significant drawback to using my stovetop smoker. It left stains on my white stovetop that I cannot for the life of me scrub out. It looks like it'd be easy to get off, but it's like, painted on now or something and I'm finding it impossible. Should I just give up? Is there some trick to it? I didn't know it was going to do that or that it would be a danger since NO REVIEWER mentioned it, so I didn't do anything pre-emptive like surround the burner with foil. D'oh!! I will in future, but for right now I'm just trying to see if I can get my stovetop looking white again. :/

Ooooh I wonder if there's an LJ comm dedicated to cleaning. I should look.

Now that I think about it, I haven't bought any out here yet, so it might be a regional thing, but I've gotten it at grocery stores, Target, places like that. It's kind of like Bar Keeper's friend.

LOL, what is funny about that is that I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOREVER FOR BAR KEEPER'S FRIEND!!!!!! And haven't been able to find it! Damn you amazing cleaning products that are out of my reach!!!!

oh that sucks! I have both under my sink, here they come at the grocery store. (seconding callie's rec for Bon Ami, should you find it. As a bonus, it's cheap as dirt!)

You're totally right, I found them at the grocery store. I just thought that surely Walmart would have a greater selection, so if I couldn't find it there, it wouldn't be anywhere, but I was wrong. And you're so right re: Bon Ami being so cheap, wow! It was $1.69 compared to Bar Keeper's Friend (which I got also) for $3.99!

I am happy to tell you that I found Bon Ami! It was at a local grocery store along with BKF. Bon Ami totally worked on the lighter smoke stains! Yay!! It did help with some of the darker/more set-in gunk, and I'm going to try Bar Keeper's Friend on the remainder. I'm just surprised that Walmart didn't have either of these cleaning products and the grocery store did.
