longest. week. ever.
Feb. 2nd, 2012 01:18 pmWow, I can't believe all the shit that went down at the Abbey after episode 4.
OK, Matthew is so not really confined to a wheelchair forever. Right? RIGHT? While I would commend them Going There, I can't imagine they actually will. Maybe if he was truly intended for Lavinia (look, I learned her name!), but he's not. It's so clearly Mary/Matthew. Except I just don't know how they're going to manage to make that happen in a good way (aka, a way in which I won't be disgusted by one or both of them). At this point, they're trying to show that Matthew actually "loves" Lavinia, and she won't abandon him, and yet Mary's there being supportive too... God, don't even tell me they're actually going to marry their respective fiancees, then figure it out years down the line after their spouses are either dead or their marriages ruined. Talk about Charles/Diana/Camilla.
William's death was so sad, especially the way it happened. I don't even get what he died from. Just... internal injuries? He didn't even seem like he was in pain or anything! I can't decide who I think was right about the whole marrying him thing. Before he actually died, I thought there was a chance he'd surprise everyone and pull through, in which case I didn't think it was fair to Daisy to force her to marry someone she didn't love, and lie to a decent person like William. But then when it became clear that he really was going to die, I thought she was making way too big a deal out of it. Let him have his dying wish, for god's sake, is that really asking so much of you, to let him die happy? And even if it was a lie, he's dead and got to die happy, which can't be said for everyone, or if there's an aferlife, I'm sure he's in heaven and he understands. I can kind of understand why she wouldn't want to claim his money and pension and what not after his death; I'd feel like a fraud too.
The badly burned "P Crawley" is just too convenient to be true. Right? I kind of take Mary's side on this one. Some guy who no one recognizes who happens to be badly burned and was in a position to learn all about the family from the actual Patrick Crawley, claims to be the actual heir? This is just like that one movie with Jodie Foster and Richard Gere... Sommersby. Plus this season they've talked about Tsar Nicholas being murdered along with all of his family, and the story of Anastasia Romanov has spawned countless false claims about her identity. CORRELATION WITH THE P CRAWLEY STORYLINE PERHAPS?
Maybe I just want him to be fake because, like everyone else, I love Matthew and want him to be the future Earl of Grantham. And I don't want Edith (who bought P Crawley's story) to be Lady Grantham, though she'd be preferable to Lavinia. Sorry, I just don't like her. And I don't like that Matthew supposedly loves her. -.-
I've been spoiled about Sybil and Branson (Bronson?), so I keep waiting for them to do something that will really make me root for them, but that time has not yet come. I don't not cheer for them, but I really want to love them, because I love Sybil (even if she's less interesting this season) and I like Branson, and I could actually buy the idea of her being content with the life he could offer her.
Ughghghggh GO AWAY ETHEL. I really hope that they got the point they wanted to get across (how the only difference between her and the new maid they hired that everyone respects is the fact that some man loved the new maid enough to marry her) and now they'll be done with her storyline. I couldn't care less about her. They should've made the character more sympathetic, because I really couldn't give a shit about her plight as a woman living during those times.
OK, on the one hand I'm glad the evil Mrs. Bates is dead. That was another storyline that draaaaaaaaagged and wasn't all that compelling. However, now I'm sure Bates is going to be arrested for her murder or something, just to keep him and Anna apart some more. NEWSFLASH: No one cares about this couple enough that you need to keep putting obstacles in their way!
OK, seriously, why do they keep putting the new maid in a room with the Earl? Don't even tell me that he's going to have an affair with her, because that would be so disgustingly out of character. And there is nothing about her that I see provides him with something he doesn't have already.
I really liked Thomas in the last couple of eps. I can't even remember what he did, it's not like he has a storyline, but I was just amused by him. Same with O'Brien, even though I suppose I must blame her for being the one to keep the annoying Mrs. Bates on our screens.
Carson, leaving Downton Abbey? That's perhaps the first indication that things will not work out with Mary and Sir Richard. :)) There's no way Carson is really leaving DA for good.
I've used my new sun alarm clock the last two mornings and I think it's working pretty well. I use it in conjunction with my regular alarm (a stereo that plays a CD). I think the 'light' helps me wake up with my regular alarm more easily. It's weird because, when my eyes are closed and the light is on, it seems like real sunlight, so in that way it's good. But when I actually open my eyes, the light doesn't look like sunlight AT ALL. It's like a strange blue-purple color, it's still pitch black outside, etc. But it does seem to make waking up with my normal alarm easier, so that's good. The first day I tried one of their "nature" sounds but it was more annoying than soothing, so I stopped that.
I've been continuing to use MyFitnessPal... I haven't been strictly following my calorie count, but I'm sure I've been eating way less than I used to (if my constantly growly stomach is any indication -- which it is), so that's good at least. Holy CRAP is there a lot of sodium in sausages (I made a divine split pea soup with potato and sausage the other night, but in future I may make it without the sausage or with way less of it). And calories in drinks are the WORST. Even a small carton of nonfat milk has 90 calories! And my morning coffee, with cream and sweetener added, yikes. I'm going to have to go back to drinking only water like I used to (not that I drink a lot of non-water now, but what little I do, I regret the calories almost immediately, because it's not like it's even very filling).
My mom is coming back to Seattle tomorrow. I found this out yesterday. It's such a long story that I don't even want to get into, but suffice it to say that she was really upset (for the reason she has to come), but also looking forward to it (seeing me/the pets/eating Seattle food, which she insists is superior to food in LA). We'll fly back down to LA together at the end of the month, when I'll be on vacation. I'm happy to see her again, of course, but this is NOT good for my new diet. My mom can out-eat me any time, and is always "upset" when I only pick at my food/eat very little (it's like not as satisfying for her if I'm not eating with gusto right alongside her).
