Ep 17
- Yun Seong is actually the son of the President?!
- Does the President even know that he had a son with Kyeong Hee?
- I'm not crazy am I, the flash back I just saw seemed to say that Kyeong Hee's was pregnant by some other man, whose name I didn't totally recognize, but that I think is the President? Plus he's basically the only one left.
- OMG, that means Da Hye is -- OMG. YUN SEONG'S SISTER!!! OMG. Wow, incest is popular everywhere now, isn't it?
- Explains a lot about why Jin Pyo seemed fine with ruining Yun Seong's life, though, since YS isn't biologically the son of Mul Yeol. In fact, he might even resent Kyeong Hee for it.
- I really like the President; he seems like a very decent fellow. I like that there's some gray area when it comes to him, since the other four politicians were so obviously crooked.
- Oh man. I can't get over Da Hye crushing on her big brother.
- And when is Yun Seong going to make a big declaration in front of everyone about his feelings for Kim Na Na? It's so irritating watching everyone fawn over him when he only has eyes for her!
- The actress who plays Na Na occasionally reminds me of Kim So Eun, though no one is as cute as Kim So Eun.
- I hope the latter gets a really meaty role like this one soon, I'd love to see her in something else. If Kim Bum were in it too, that would be a giant bonus. >.> It would've been kind of awesome if she'd gotten this role, though. It's like some guilty pleasure AU: Jun Pyo/Ga Eul! LOL.
Ep 18
- LOLOL at Baddie Eyeliner Guy. "Where are you?" "I'm at Sea World." :)))))))) Sooooooooo threatening! I half expected him to elaborate, "In the penguin area." :))))))))
- OMG though that he had to get YS to handcuff his own hands behind his back then started beating him up, because that's the only way he could win. Pffft. However, it only gave YS the opportunity to once again show off what a badass he is, because he took him down with both hands behind his back. /fans self
- I think this was last episode, but it was also really awesome when YS lost patience with Yeong Ju and flipped him in front of the other security team members. Though I kind of wish it had been an even more impression demonstration of his prowess.
- I really like YJ's underlings, Na Na's aunt and the other guy. Especially the other guy, who was like, "Ohmygod this is crazy!" every time they found a new person that the City Hunter had knocked out. :))
- Random note: I keep wanting to say "Yi Jeong" instead of "Yeong Ju." Yi Jeong. <3
- I'm proud of Na Na for telling YS to stay away, even though there was no chance in hell he was going to. At first he was ignoring the call from her phone... boy would he have regretted that later if he hadn't actually picked up and Baddie Eyeliner Guy decided to do away with her anyway.
- Uh oh, now that YS has promised Na Na that he'll come back to her after it's all over, I have a bad feeling about how it's all going to end. I hope he doesn't die, that would be really terrible. That would be like Harry dying at the end of Deathly Hallows -- after all he's been through, to not be able to enjoy life like a normal person, that would be awful. I suppose, now that I'm thinking of that, I'm convincing myself that that wouldn't happen.
end
- OMG so much tragedy. But we all knew from the start that Jin Pyo had to die. As Drama Beans pointed out, he was just too extreme a character, and he totally refused to bend at almost all points. Someone who can't bend will break, and so that's what happened.
- It was good that it happened the way it did, though... to save YS. I was unimpressed with the way he kept his gun leveled at YS even after YS pointed it at his own head, but at least he redeemed himself in the end. One of the things that has always been kind of unclear is how much he actually cared about YS, but in the end he proved that he did... which is good, considering, blood aside, JP was the only father YS had ever known. It was beautiful the way he also took the fall for being the City Hunter.
- I can't believe how hard it was to kill JP. It looked like Na Na got him right through the heart, but he was still able to stand and make the City Hunter confession. Then he was shot multiple times by the Blue House bodyguards, and he was STILL ALIVE long enough to hold YS's hand. Meanwhile, I don't know why YS was so weak, it didn't look like he'd been shot anywhere vital. Drama Beans' recap was all, he shoots him right through the heart! And I was like, um, if that happened YS would be dead.
- I guess it was supposed to be a big uncertain thing if YS survived or not... LOL, I just assumed he was alive, I wasn't in suspense about it at all. It wasn't until I was reading the DB recap that I was like, "Oh. We were supposed to think he was dead?"
- WTF happened at the end with Na Na? Where the hell were they? Was she going with YS, his mom, and ahjusshi to the States? But if so, why did he look so solemn (and so did she)? But why else would she leave the Blue House security team? But then why was he driving alone in his car at the end? WTF seriously, why does it have to be so oblique? I usually can't stand American romcoms because they always end with the guy and girl kissing so you know they're together... but that would have been kind of nice here. I guess they're trying to leave it open ended, so you can believe whatever you want about whether they were together or not. But why? YS said several times that if he made it back alive he would come back to her, and she's made no secret of the fact that she wants to be with him, so why wouldn't they be?
- It might even be OK, considering the premise of the show is about YS and his quest for justice and not the romance, had they not made the show like 70% about the romance. That being the case I want some closure, damn it.
- It was pretty funny though how Na Na was like, relegated to the sidelines for the last 3 episodes of the show. She was like, the main part until that happened. Pacing could have been better.
- So... it was never revealed to anyone, apparently, that YS was the president's son? So Da Hye never realized who she was initially crushing on?
- I have to say, I was pretty unimpressed by the President by the end. I still think he's a decent fellow and really liked the way the actor played him, and I don't even disagree with what he was saying about how you have to be a little dirty to succeed politically and to effect change (sad though that might be), but the way he was like, barely affected when YS was shot was just... meh. HE'S YOUR SON OMG. I guess he has other kids than Da Hye though, I think we even heard that he has a trueborn son? (Haha, using ASoIaF terminology.)
- I still can't get over the tragedy of YJ's death. Ugh. It does explain why they didn't kill Sa Hui though. I didn't understand how YJ could find her alive, when the thugs clearly were going to kill her (the big mean one even telling his underlings to "kill her"). I mean, then to find her alive, just tied up... wtf? Why would they do that. But I guess it's because they were going to kill YJ instead. In that case she might as well have died, to even more fully explain why he was so stubborn in that warehouse. There was NO REASON for him to keep on Cheon Jae Man the way he did, given the circumstances with all those thugs there. It was like committing suicide.
- All in all, a super satisfying and fun show. Probably the best I've seen in ages, Korean or otherwise.
The best thing about Asian dramas is that they're like books... they have a beginning, middle, and end. There's no "monster of the week" type episodes, so that the show can drag on for however long the network can keep it alive. It tells a full story, which is why the endings are usually very satisfying.
