I haven't ventured out to look at the garden in a couple of days due to the rainy weather, and yesterday when I visited again I was devastated to see that the zucchini -- which had sprouted beautifully and had been doing so well -- was wilted and pretty much gone. The stem looked like it'd been eaten away or rotted away or I don't even know what. The last time I saw it, it'd been fine, and you would think that if it was due to bugs they would have eaten it long before now. So I just don't know what happened. But it was like, one of the most promising things in the bed and now it's gone. Cry. I planted another seed, but who knows if that will really come to anything given that it's already JUNE. I have little baby strawberries as I've decided not to do what everyone recommends and am not cutting back the fruit/blossoms in this, the plants' first year. I'm just not hardcore enough. All I want to do is to be able to grow some stuff and see some results THIS season, not next year.

Tonight am going to a sports bar with J. I was totally perplexed when she called and asked if I wanted to see "the game" with her. "What game?" She seemed totally shocked that I didn't know. "Lakers/Celtics!!" I know I should be all about the Lakers, being from LA and all, but honestly don't give a hoot about any pro sports at all. Still, I love sports bars (though they're more fun when a collegiate game is on).

For ages I've been wanting to make coconut ice cream and mango sorbet and marble them together, as David Lebovitz does in The Perfect Scoop. I finally got around to making the bases last night, and let me tell you, you'd think that making 2 ice creams to go together would be twice the trouble of making 1 ice cream, but it's not. It's like 10x the trouble.

Thanks to Tippr I now have $25 worth of vouchers to What the Pho! for $10. I have to admit that I've always been curious about it.

According to UPS my Actifry is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I CAN'T WAIT. I don't know whether I will first make fries or this.

Caught up on Glee. :D Funk

I love how Jesse just randomly goes back to Vocal Adrenaline. Not that we didn't know it was going to happen, because Shelby said that was what they'd intended all along, but he doesn't say that that's why. His reasoning, despite the fact that, as far as I recall, he'd JUST made up with Rachel and everything seemed hunky dory (and he hadn't had any scuffles with the other team members), is because they never treated him well and didn't appreciate his ideas. Um, what ideas... But whatever, it's Glee and I'm lukewarm about Jesse at best. If they want to suddenly make him a bad guy and not give any good reasons for it, I don't care.

Overall not one of my favorite episodes, though. I really could have done without the Will/Sue. As much as I enjoyed seeing Sue in her Abode of Trophies, I thought this was a really lame and boring storyline. It doesn't make Will look good -- now, not only is he dim, but also can/will be cruel just for the sake of being cruel. Plus, the almost kiss was just ... icky.

Were Quinn and Mercedes supposed to be in a fight? Of some kind? Have no idea what that was all about. It's not like they were just openly fighting (just an eyeroll here or there) and then suddenly they're having this big make-up session in the library as if they'd actually fought. And it ends with Mercedes inviting Quinn to stay with her, which is very cool of Mercedes, but the whole scene just seemed to come out of nowhere. (Plus, I enjoyed the idea of Quinn living with Puck.)

Also, sort of related, it's really, really stupid that Mercedes would make fun of Quinn for wanting to do funk, because "when white people do funk it turns into K.C. and the Sunshine Band" and then turn around and help Puck and Finn with their "funk" piece, which was not funk at all but rap, and even that is questionable since it's Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch! (Though I love "Good Vibrations.") So much inconsistency with characters/feelings this episode, from other eps *as well as* just within the episode itself!

Are they really going to do Terri/Finn? Because... I don't think it should go there. I don't hate Terri as much as I did in the first season, but I'm just unclear on what she's still DOING there. She's just kind of ... extra. Why do they even WANT to keep her around? I also could do without all the oblique Puck/Rachel stuff. Puck noticing she's not there, saying he wants to pound Jesse's face, etc. Puck/Rachel is like Draco/Hermione to me.

I'm sorry but the last funk song/dance they did? Not that impressive. I find it incredibly difficult to believe that Vocal Adrenaline wouldn't be able to pull that off. I can't buy it in the least. They opened the series doing Amy Winehouse. I seriously doubt funk would be out of their repertoire. But whatever, not like it matters. I doubt they will actually perform this at regionals. I mean, they spent the first half of the season preparing all sorts of things for sectionals, which wasn't even mentioned once it was time for sectionals (and not because of what happened, either). Like "True Colors"???

The episode saved itself from complete mediocrity due to lots of Puck. Loved "Loser." And Mercedes's participation notwithstanding, "Good Vibrations" was fun too. Nice to see that other (white) guys in Glee can convincingly rap, not just Matthew Morrison. How hilarious was, "Even though Finn and I still hate each other for some reason..."??? LOL! And I had to laugh at Finn's like, "We're gonna go all Braveheart on Vocal Adrenaline!"
