LJ archiving entries?

Okay, I might just be totally late to the party on this one, but I was pretty much off LJ for about 2 years ... do they archive/take down entries after a certain length of time?

I went looking for some older entries I had made on some Angel episodes that I was sure I'd written about, but I couldn't find them. Then I checked the archives for how far they went back to see if I could find them manually, and discovered that my very first post, whenever it was, is now gone. Was there some kind of hiccup at some point that deleted journal entries (particularly older ones), or do they just delete older entries as a matter of course?

I'm kind of sad because if I'd known I might have taken some precautions to archive some of that stuff locally. Now it is gone forever. :(

I don't think so. As far as I know they should all be there. I wonder why they're hiding from you?

This. AFAIK, no deleting old stuff. *checks own journal* Yep, my first post from 2002 is still there.

Any chance you deleted them, or made them private so only you could see?

If they were private I still should have been able to see them, since I'm always signed in. However, someone else figured it out for me ... I am so lame. I had another journal way back when I first started LJing, and it blended together in my mind, so the first entry for this journal is not my first entry ever, which was what I thought had been deleted. Sigh.

LJ doesn't delete entries and hasn't had a data loss that I'm aware of. You created this journal on 1-15-2003, and there's an entry dated 1-16-2003, although it doesn't say anything about being a first entry.

You did have a journal under another name, so is it possible you're thinking of things posted to that one? :)

LOL wow I am a giant DORK. That is exactly what happened. I guess it's just been way too long. In my head I've only ever had one journal (and changed the name of it or something). I didn't think to check the journal created date, or that might have made my brain work a little harder. Thanks!

Hahahahaha oh this made me laugh. Your first LJ entry of all time on any name. The more things change, the more they stay the same:

"Event"?? I have to share an event?? I just wanted there to be something up here so it wouldn't be blank. I watched Friends! That's an event. And now we know who the father of that girl's baby is ... oh, what the heck am I trying to protect you people from. If you know me at all then we've discussed Friends and we all know I'm talking about ROSS and RACHEL. (And if you don't know me then why in the world would you be reading this??) Of course, I knew all this weeks ago when Trix spilled the beans from her hook up. It's still fun to watch ... and to run on IMs afterward to discuss w/ the two bitches.

Sigh, THAT is the entry I was thinking of. In my head, I guess I had just changed the name of my journal, and I didn't even THINK of narida and that one having the info I needed until S. brought it up. SIGH.
