Had a lovely lunch with [livejournal.com profile] corianderstem at I Love Sushi. The company was lovely; the food was OK. A little lacking in quality from what I'm used to there, but it was still decent. There were even BONES in my salmon. Now, I am not someone who is usually squeamish about bones (although fish bones are really small and thus annoying), but it is so not appropriate in sashimi.

Speaking of sushi, I don't think I mentioned that we found a place in the Valley called Midori Sushi that has all you can eat -- but isn't like a sketchy buffet. It has a very decent AYCE menu that includes all kinds of rolls, sushi, and cooked items like tempura and teriyaki, and you order it at your table. For that reason they have a bunch of rules when ordering AYCE, nothing too unreasonable. It was $26 for dinner, which isn't cheap but is a fair price for what you get, as long as you go in with a big appetite and "eat your worth"!

We went to Whole Foods afterward, and even though I spent about $60 I barely have anything to show for it. This is quite typical of WF, but this time it was mostly because I bought some high-quality chocolate (white and dark) to make peppermint bark with, so half that amount was the chocolate alone. Which, if you think about it, jesus. They also had tins of peppermint bark made by Jo's Candies, which I decided to try because it was $4.99 (quite a difference from the $26.50 bark at Williams Sonoma) for 12oz. And it turns out I really like it! I might like it more than the WS version! Jo's has a very thin layer of dark chocolate, so there's more white chocolate, and the peppermint on top is very finely crushed, which I like because it doesn't get stuck in your teeth as easily. Plus I'm not one of those people who looooves chocolate, so the minimal dark chocolate layer doesn't bother me. Now I'm thinking maybe I should save the chocolate I bought -- 6oz of bittersweet Scharffen Berger and about 24oz of Callebaut white chocolate -- for something else, and go back and get more of Jo's bark while it's still seasonal.

I also got some fruit, bread, granola, plain yogurt, turkey, and flour (King Arthur -- WF has the cheapest price for this flour, if you can believe it). Which isn't much, but I just could not justify getting anything else at their inflated prices. I'll do more shopping tomorrow, at Fred Meyer/99 Ranch, for other essentials, but at least now I have breakfast and sandwiches.

I've started playing Spore. It's fun, though not yet quite as fun as I was expecting. So far I've evolved from being an amoeba to a land creature who's discovered the wonder of fire.

A. also introduced me to Tazo's yummy Apricot Vanilla tea. Am I lame that I use the same teabag for 2-3 cups, maybe one time even 4? It just seems like such a waste to toss it after one use.

Also, apropos of nothing, there is a new LJ community, [livejournal.com profile] doggie_pix. I bet they'd like Talis there. If they didn't meet him.

<---jealous...

We just got an all-you-can-eat sushi roll place down by the river (well, provided it hasn't flooded out *g*). I think they charge $17.95 for the deal.

I wish we'd get a Whole Paycheck down here. Your's is about the closest one to me. (although, I still have Metropolitain Market in Tacoma if I'm having a craving for some weird expensive delicacy, and my Fred Meyer is rocking the great cheese right now...)

I loooove the Metropolitan Market on Queen Anne. They have good pre-made sushi rolls, too! Surprisingly good for that grocery store stuff.
