Well, I'm back at my parents'. Long story short, with my ankle woes and Jade's dog's anxiety/health issues, it's just easier and less stress for everyone involved. This way I can be in my own bed (sort of), I can easily reach the sink, etc. (Jade's counters and what not are extra tall), Mal isn't all stressed out, and my parents can take me to the airport with relative ease, which is important considering I'm going to have Talis along with heavy luggage and dealing with my ankle. Oh yeah, AND Aunt Flo is visiting (and with her arrival, the realization of what I forgot to pack this time), so really, just best all around.

I saw 6 movies on this trip (not counting random stuff on TV). I always watch more movies every year around this time than I do all the rest of the year put together. Ranked in order of enjoyment:

- Gran Torino: Had some clunky dialogue at some parts but was generally well done; is probably my favorite Clint Eastwood movie
- Slumdog Millionaire: Everyone's already said why it's so great, so I won't belabor the point; the boy who played little!Jamal was soooo cute
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: Personally not my favorite Brad Pitt movie, Fight Club or A River Runs Through It gets that title, but he was good and Cate was fabulous as usual
- Valkyrie: Interesting and well done if a bit slow in parts, and the 'obvious' ending considering we know what happened in history
- Yes Man: Enjoyable Jim Carrey vehicle, even if they did cast everyone else as way too young for their big star; best part was his Australian manager
- The Spirit: I truly liked the first 5 movies, so this is kind of in its own category. This is only #6 because I only saw 6 movies; if I'd seen more it would have continued to slip. Terrible flick. I never saw Sin City so I'm not sure if it was the story or the style that I didn't like. From what everyone else said though, it was a bad, bad story and a bad, bad movie. There was also a super annoying girl behind us who talked through the entire friggin movie. If it'd been better we would have more insistently tried to shut her up. Every time a cat came on screen (which was more times than necessary, really), she would squeal, "Ooh! A meow meow!" Seriously, she needed a good bitchslap.

I'd still like to see The Reader and Revolutionary Road, because I adore Kate Winslet and I'm sure one or the other will garner some kind of Academy Award nomination. Though she won't win, just to spite me.

Once again, as happens every year, I have purchased more than my luggage will fit, so I've mailed some stuff home, including an $88 750gb external hard drive that I had Jade get for me on Black Friday. I always overload my computer hard drive with all my movies, music, and photos, so hopefully this will help. And of course, there's all of my mother's designer purses (mostly Gucci) that I'm going to sell on eBay, hopefully for a sum that will make her happy. She's not too sure of this eBay thing, so I'd like to pleasantly surprise her.

And now for some random photos:

A half cheese, half pepperoni pizza from Mulberry Street Pizza. Robbie took this awesome perspective photo (I cropped out my head because I hate the way I look). The pizza WAS huge but not quite as huge as it looks in the photo. It is the closest I've come to finding pizza on the west coast like the kind Jade and I had in New York -- sooooo delicious. It was similar to pizza you'd get from Ray's, not Patsy's or Lombardi's. I have yet to find pizza like the latter two. Now I must try to find a place in Seattle that has pizza like this.

One of the cutest pics of Talis ever!

Let's play a game of Where's Robbie? Here we're just past the entrance to Knott's Berry Farm.

Snoopy and Woodstock(s) bid us welcome to Knott's!

Frozen yogurt from Purenaked Yogurt, which is similar to Pinkberry. I love the new fad of the sour, yogurt-like taste of frozen yogurt, it's yummy. But again I don't know of any place in Seattle that serves it. Come to us, Pinkberry! I usually like mine with all raspberry or raspberry/pineapple, but this time I made the mistake of getting mango, which was under-ripe, yuck. In the background you see Robbie's yogurt topped with pineapple and Captain Crunch.

This is the only eggroll I actually like. It's from a hole-in-the-wall Shanghai restaurant in El Monte, which took over an hour to get to because of terrible traffic. I love their food though. The eggroll here has more veggies than meat, and is fried super light and crisp. Mmm.

A picture of my hurt ankle. It finally went down a bit in swelling here, and was bruising. The bruised part doesn't actually hurt; we figure the blood seeped down from the actual injury. Today it's even got the apple green coloring.

I liked this pic of some palm trees that I took, I can't remember where, might have been Knott's. Love the beautiful blue skies, which we see far too little of in Seattle. Stupid gray rainy place.

Yesterday to kill some time we went to one of the missions in California, I can't remember which one already (when I was in 4th grade we all had to make model-sized missions made of stucco). It was an hour before closing and it cost $4 to go in, so we opted to go to the small garden across the street from it instead. I thought this tree looked really cool.

Tonight my mom is cooking, which I'm really looking forward to because I have been eating out waaaaaaaaaay too much.

Oh my god at your ankle! I'm so jealous of the group Peanuts pic - A Charlie Brown Christmas is my faaaaaaaaaaavorite!

I really want to see Revolutionary Road and am torn on The Reader. I like to see the big award pics, but I really didn't like the book, and I'm not sure even the lure of Kate Winslet and Ralph Fiennes can draw me in to see it on the big screen. I'll probably see it on DVD.

I know re: The Reader. I wasn't much enamored of the book either. But the LA Times review of Kate's performance made me want to see it. I don't think I'd go to the theater especially though, so either I'll have to wait for Jade to find a good screener copy or I too will be waiting for DVD. If it works out we could try to see Revolutionary Road at some point.
