Photo request #3: Handbags
Oct. 19th, 2008 01:46 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
The last photo request comes from
13oct, whose request will expose how totally frivolous I am. What's that you say? That was exposed long ago? Oh well. Of my (many) faults, this is probably the one I have the most fun with.

This isn't a very good photo, I know. You can hardly see the handbags in the back.
Anyway, these are all my designer handbags (I decided not to photograph the ones that aren't considered 'luxury designer' even though I do have several -- because I'm lazy, they're not really worth photographing, and because my dining room table is only so big). I tried to group them as best as I could by collection. Designers represented: Louis Vuitton, Coach, Kate Spade, Juicy Couture, Dooney & Bourke.
I plan to sell a number of these on eBay once it gets to be closer to Christmas. In particular, these are the ones I've decided to part with:

There isn't anything wrong with them; in fact, some of them still have tags as I never carried them. :/ But some of the styles just aren't me anymore, and finding them a home with people who will love and appreciate them is better than just sitting in my closet. Plus I can use the proceeds to buy new bags. >.>
I also took photos of my favorite bag by each designer (except D&B, because I'm not all that crazy about their handbags -- most of their bags were given to me as gifts. The exception is the "hearts" bag that you can see in the first group photo; I do adore the "celery" green one in the front).
Without further ado...

Designer: Louis Vuitton
Shape: Speedy 30
Material: Coated canvas
Color: Multicolore
This is one of LV's classic shapes. LV, unlike most designers, does not retire their handbag shapes/colors/materials every season. Other designers have a new line up of handbags every season by which to entice shoppers and fashionistas, and last season's are typically retired. LV does have limited editions, and they do retire handbags from time to time as well as come out with new styles, but for the most part they have a small selection of specific styles that stay the same every season. That's partly why their handbags are classic, recognizable, and enduring. Another reason is that LV is NEVER on sale. Never. They also do not sell factory seconds. If a handbag isn't perfect, they destroy it. So if you ever see an auction on eBay claiming that an LV was purchased on sale or as a factory second and that's why the seller can sell it so cheap, it's a fake.
It's also one of the few brands that can actually appreciate over time, unlike other luxury goods/assets (like cars) that depreciate. Again, they're selling the same handbags year after year -- but with inflation and the price of goods going up all the time, the prices get raised every so often. So the exact same handbag style/shape/material from 2001 will cost more in 2008. The current price for this handbag new is $2,240. A matching Porte-Tresor wallet (which I have) is $685. Insane, right?
But what can I say? Currently I have 4 LVs in my collection and I adore each and every one of them!

Designer: Kate Spade
Shape: Carolina
Material: Canvas
Color: Blue Rose Print collection
I just ADORE the blue rose print. It makes me nervous to use this bag, because the background is cream and the material is very unforgiving when it comes to stains/dirt. A summery purse. <3
Kate Spade was the first designer purse I ever purchased on my own. I was in love with the "Sam" shape at the time (which is still a good shape). It was also the first designer handbag I ever bought on eBay, and learned how to tell counterfeits from the real thing, researching the item, etc. KS still comes out with some of the cutest handbags, even though in recent years it seems the brand has lost some of its former glory.

Designer: Juicy Couture
Shape: Bowler
Material: Terry cloth
Color: Lilac
I know, very kitschy but I love it. Especially if you're going casual, this is such a fun handbag to use.
Juicy was all the rage at some point, but I've never gotten that into them. I have two Juicy handbags and I plan to sell the other one.

Designer: Coach
Shape: Carly (plus matching wallet)
Material: Fabric
Color: Pink Tonal C
This is the newest handbag in my collection. I LOVE the tonal C design, and I've recently really gotten into pink. It's just so cute! But I haven't used it yet, because it's another summertime purse and, well, it's fall.
Coach is one of those luxury brands that appeals to a wide range of people (when you go out anywhere, you will see a Coach bag). They're not super expensive like LV, but they're classier than midline brands. They've also got a huge selection. And somehow, they've managed to keep their brand name prestigious while also making a lot of sales, having the occasional discount, and having Coach Factory stores (best place to get Coach bags, imho).

Date: 2008-10-21 10:34 pm (UTC)What fabulous picts. And seriously what gorgeous, gorgeous handbags. I really, really enjoyed looking at the picts and reading the info that your wrote. I seriously don't know much about handbags so this was an eye opener. I think that the Kate Spade blue rose bad is the one i like best. :)
By the way, you're talking to someone who uses a diaper bag as a handbag right now. (Hehe, I can practically see you cringe at my statement!) So, if I sound clueless, it's coz I am.
If you don't mind me asking, can you show us some more picts of your handbag collection. I'm well and truly fascinated. I've never been into handbags, so this is like wow for me. If I'm being nosey, just ignore me yeah.

Date: 2008-10-22 01:12 am (UTC)Actually I'm not that horrified by the diaper bag, as I see from your profile that you have two small children. ;) Moms have enough to worry about. But you know, Kate Spade makes some super cute diaper bags too! See, I'm hopeless.
More pictures coming soon. :D
