The next best thing to writing fic myself is making other people write it. That being said, go read this cuuuute D/G drabble that [livejournal.com profile] akscully did! I think it's the first D/G she's ever written (that I am aware of, anyway), but it's like she's been doing it for years!

Comfort food: I'm much more likely to crave comfort food in the wintertime, because it's cold and depressing and if you live in the Pacific Northwest, very wet. All of these are from my childhood, though I wonder if that's the very nature of comfort food -- that it reminds you of being little and feeling safe? I dunno, but I can't think of any foods I started liking as an adult that fits the mold of comfort food. Mine are:

* Hodge podge salad: My grandmother used to make this (my mother tried to imitate it, but could never really get it right, and was v. annoyed when I told her so). Basically you just take carrots, celery, boiled eggs, and sliced ham, cutting them cup into bite-sized pieces (after flash boiling the carrots and celery). Then you mix it together with Miracle Whip (not regular mayo, very important difference). I hate MW and mayo every other way, but I love MW here -- probably because of the comfort food thing. Anyway, I've now spiced up the recipe by adding potato, corn, and green onion. Mmmmmmmm, it's soooooo good.

* Peanut butter & jam sandwiches w/ plain potato chips: Yeah, I probably share this in common with 99% of you, but the comfort food value cannot be denied. This combination is yummier than it has a right to be, really.

* Tricked-out ramen: The important thing here is that the ramen has to be from an Asian supermarket, because for some reason all the ones at American supermarkets are the gross kind, like Top Ramen and what not. They're so tasteless. Anyway, so it has to be a package of one of the right kind of ramen, and then add egg, veggies, possibly leftover meat of some kind (like pork chops...), and hot sauce. This would be one of the fast/easy meals my mom would prepare when she didn't have time to really cook. Plain ramen, btw, does not count, because that reminds me of college and does not remind me at all of a safe/pampered childhood.

* Stouffer's meat lasagne/mac & cheese: Seriously, to this day I have never found a lasagne or mac & cheese I've liked more than I like Stouffer's. I used to have these as snacks after school, because I was always ravenously hungry. (Pizza too, but I've had pizza so much over the years that it ceases to be part of any one memory.) I think the lasagne and mac & cheese you get in restaurants are too fancy or something; it's just never as good. :D

What are yours??

When did they put an inn in Westfall? New chars should have to travel back and forth from SWC, just like us old schoolers did. Wimps. In that case, they should really put a flight path in Eastvale.

Cute drabble! "16 rooms" *Snicker*

My comfort foods:
Pepperidge Farm Milano cookies - so thin, yet so fulfilling

Chips & Salsa - Wakes up all your senses

McDonald's French fries dipped in McDonald's sundae - a delicious mix of flavor that makes your tongue tingle XD

And yay for AsianSupermarket!Ramen ^^

My dad would agree with you about the Milano cookies.

OMG McD's fries with their sundaes! Yes! It's so weird but I can't have ice cream there without also having fries. And since I went to McD's a lot as a kid, it so counts as comfort food. Thanks for reminding me about that one. :D

Umm...Inn's been there in Westfall as long as I've been playing. In Sentinel Hill, no?

:O

Shut up! That can't be true! Can it?????

I swear to God there was never one before ... omg I might be losing my mind ... Jade and I were both astounded by it. If it's been there the whole time, then I just have to *facepalm* all over the place.

... Azeroth is a strange place. Entire buildings blink in and out of existence. Nice!

Anyway, are we on for tonight? WHat time will you log in? Just so I can put my alarm clock and make most of the night, because chances are I'll be netless (game-wise) for a couple of weeks after this weekend :'(

(oh, and while we might not be able to take down a Lvl. 22 boss, we might do some of the easier quest. Surely picking up 40 silk bandannas near the entrance of the instance can't be that hard, can it?)

(and I need to level up to 18, pick up new skills and hopefully a two-hand weapon that doesn't suck. Coral Sword 10DPS, my paladin's polygonal butt!)

(and isn't Killrogg full? Because I'm still on time to move my tauren druid there before she learns anything remotely interesting).

We sure are! I am just going to log on when I get home, after I've eaten dinner and taken care of the dog. That typically runs till about 7/7:30pm my time. So get as much sleep as you can!

Oh NO: re being netless! What a terrible ordeal for you. :(

Yes, we might be able to do some of the quests that are outside the instance, though we'll probably have to 4-man those, because people typically don't like to join groups just for that. But we'll see. Plus if we can do it 4-man, it would be best, because getting drops can be really tedious. And the more people you have to do it for, the longer it takes. :p

The other thing we were thinking we could do is, you and Amelia can come over to the Elven lands and do some quests there. Another instance around our lvl is over there (Blackfathom Deeps), so it'd probably be good to get those quest chains also. (Jade and I have been lvling there, because we want to get exalted with Darnassus. :D)

Well, some nice blue weps drop in Deadmines, so if we actually do it, you may luck out. Like [Taskmaster Axe] (http://www.thottbot.com/?i=5730). :D You do need to be lvl 18 in order to equip it though. Jade and I got to lvl 18 tonight, but I don't think we're going to be able to get much further before Friday night. Oh well.

Kilrogg *is* 'full,' but there are actually questions about what that actually means. I don't know if it means you cannot create a character there, or if they're just trying to warn you away from it so as to balance the servers more. It would actually be very interesting to find out, because no one has been able to give me a definitive answer. Why don't you try to create one just to see if it'll let you? :D Lemme know the results!!

My biggest comfort food is anything sweet and fluffy, preferably with chocolate in it. Like brownies. Or cake. Or donuts!

Oh god, I'm hungry!

As far as real food goes, nothing says comfort like a big pot of chili! Maybe that's why I have some cooking in my crock pot at home as we speak. :D

Btw, I hope you don't mind that I friended you again. :) I had to cut way back at one point because I was just overloaded, but things are calmer now and I missed you and Jade. >:D<

Er, this is kellie528, btw. I changed names. :)

Also, that's supposed to be a hug at the end of my last comment. Stupid LJ always borks it.

Hi Kellie! Of course I don't mind. I'm so glad you let me know, because I don't often look at the list of people who've friended me (and I definitely wouldn't have known your new name <g>) -- it's really hard to keep track of, as people come and go all the time, as is their wont.

I looooooooove chili. Love, love, love. But when I was little it always came out of a can, and unlike the Stouffer's stuff, I prefer the real kind. YUM.

My comfort foods are:
McDonald's cheeseburgers, plain (meat, cheese, bun)
Kraft Mac & Cheese
Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate.

If I'm sick (or upset), I just eat these and all is right with the world LOL

I totally forgot about McD's. D'oh! I actually never had Kraft m&c until I was older, and by then I was already hooked on the frozen kind. Ah, memories of fine dining.

You know it's been raining for 25 days strait! I was so excited when the sun came out for a few minutes yesterday...sometimes our weather is just so depressing...which is why we turn to our comfort foods during this time of year :)

Mine are: Lays BBQ chips and my mom's spaghetti

From: [identity profile] sarea-okelani.livejournal.com
Is the spaghetti made a particular way? :D I ask because I love spaghetti and am always looking for new ways to prepare it. I have an awesome meat sauce recipe I like to use, but variety is the spice of life.

I'm not sure of the exact recipe, but I do know she has a tomato paste base. She adds water, celery, mushrooms, garlic, italian sausage (instead of regular hamburger), chili pepper and some other spices. I'd have to ask her. The unique thing about it is that it's *spicy*...not hot, but it has *amazing* flavor. She makes it from scratch and lets it simmer all day. And the leftovers are to die for because the longer it sits the better it gets!

Comfort Food

Chocolate, of course. Specially when it is around 90% cocoa - dark and bitter.

There's also this cereal product called Cerelac, which is baby's food. It is made of wheat and powdered milk and sugar and each small serving has around 500 calories (no kidding) but it is one of the most delicious stuff i've tasted. The idea is that you have to serve some on a plate and add milk or water, but I like to eat it dry, which is wonderful because it dries your mouth because that thing absorbs more liquid than a baby's diaper and it reminds me of when I was little and I snuck into the kitchen and I had to eat it out of the can because I couldn't reach the milk.

That is such an awesome little story re: Cerelac!! It reminds me of this British type cereal called ... what was it ... Wheatabix or something. It was like a big grain bar, solid like a giant 'cookie,' and then you added milk and smooshed it up. I looooved it. I don't know where to get it now, but since you've brought this up, I would probably consider that comfort food as well. I haven't eaten it since I was a little girl.

My dad loves biscuits and things that are really dry like you're describing. I've never understood why, as I don't! What is the appeal, you must explain it to me. :)) I'm like, I can barely open my mouth now, it's so dry! Heehee.

My comfort foods, even though you don't know me from Adam =)

-Mashed potatoes and cinnamon applesauce. My Granny used to make this for lunch for me every day when I didn't have school. This is to be drank with RC Cola.

-Biscuits and milk gravy. Again, this was a Granny creation. I got this on mornings when I was very good. This is to be drank with pink lemonade from the can.

-Grilled cheese and canned veggie soup. It's just so warm and filling and happy. In fact, I think I might go make some, as soon as I finish this. So good.

-Not a food, but Lady Grey tea with milk and just a dab of sugar. I got addicted when I went to England. And when I get it too sweet, it reminds me of this boy I met there, who made me tea every morning when I stayed the night, and he always made it too sweet.

Well, I'm glad to hear from you anyway. It's nice to meet you. :-)

What great stories, especially that last one. <3 I know a lot of people who swear by grilled cheese and tomato soup. Potatoes and applesauce, now that's an interesting one.

Yay for Claire Danes as Juliet!
