The next best thing to writing fic myself is making other people write it. That being said, go read this cuuuute D/G drabble that [livejournal.com profile] akscully did! I think it's the first D/G she's ever written (that I am aware of, anyway), but it's like she's been doing it for years!

Comfort food: I'm much more likely to crave comfort food in the wintertime, because it's cold and depressing and if you live in the Pacific Northwest, very wet. All of these are from my childhood, though I wonder if that's the very nature of comfort food -- that it reminds you of being little and feeling safe? I dunno, but I can't think of any foods I started liking as an adult that fits the mold of comfort food. Mine are:

* Hodge podge salad: My grandmother used to make this (my mother tried to imitate it, but could never really get it right, and was v. annoyed when I told her so). Basically you just take carrots, celery, boiled eggs, and sliced ham, cutting them cup into bite-sized pieces (after flash boiling the carrots and celery). Then you mix it together with Miracle Whip (not regular mayo, very important difference). I hate MW and mayo every other way, but I love MW here -- probably because of the comfort food thing. Anyway, I've now spiced up the recipe by adding potato, corn, and green onion. Mmmmmmmm, it's soooooo good.

* Peanut butter & jam sandwiches w/ plain potato chips: Yeah, I probably share this in common with 99% of you, but the comfort food value cannot be denied. This combination is yummier than it has a right to be, really.

* Tricked-out ramen: The important thing here is that the ramen has to be from an Asian supermarket, because for some reason all the ones at American supermarkets are the gross kind, like Top Ramen and what not. They're so tasteless. Anyway, so it has to be a package of one of the right kind of ramen, and then add egg, veggies, possibly leftover meat of some kind (like pork chops...), and hot sauce. This would be one of the fast/easy meals my mom would prepare when she didn't have time to really cook. Plain ramen, btw, does not count, because that reminds me of college and does not remind me at all of a safe/pampered childhood.

* Stouffer's meat lasagne/mac & cheese: Seriously, to this day I have never found a lasagne or mac & cheese I've liked more than I like Stouffer's. I used to have these as snacks after school, because I was always ravenously hungry. (Pizza too, but I've had pizza so much over the years that it ceases to be part of any one memory.) I think the lasagne and mac & cheese you get in restaurants are too fancy or something; it's just never as good. :D

What are yours??

When did they put an inn in Westfall? New chars should have to travel back and forth from SWC, just like us old schoolers did. Wimps. In that case, they should really put a flight path in Eastvale.

Well, I'm glad to hear from you anyway. It's nice to meet you. :-)

What great stories, especially that last one. <3 I know a lot of people who swear by grilled cheese and tomato soup. Potatoes and applesauce, now that's an interesting one.

Yay for Claire Danes as Juliet!
