So there's that meme going around ... it goes something like, "There are things about me you probably think you should know but don't, so ask away." I'm too lazy at the moment to search for the exact wording, but you get the point. So, hit me with questions if you've got any. In fact, you don't have to limit yourself to personal questions. It can be about fic, basketball scores, quadratic equations ... don't be shy. If it's too personal I'll tell you so. (I don't talk to just anyone about quadratic equations, you know.)

Date: 2004-11-18 08:46 pm (UTC)2) Have you ever been into jazz? If so, who?
3) What's your favourite Tom Hanks film - or are you one of those anomalies who can't stand him?
4)If you and Jade switched bodies for a day, much in the Buffy/Faith style, what would get up to?
5) You are faced with two doors. Behind one is Christian Bale. Behind the other is an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet. Which door do you go through?
6) Which is creepier, an American doing a really bad English-accent or a Brit doing a terrible American-accent?
7) Why do birds suddenly appear, whenever you are near?
You wily woman.
Date: 2004-11-18 11:15 pm (UTC)2) Not particularly, though I did take a jazz appreciation course in college. It definitely helped me appreciate it more, but as a rule I don't listen to much of it. Do you? I'd be interested in hearing your recs, since we seem to have other musical tastes in common... (The only jazz I really know is the stuff everyone knows, like "Sing, Sing, Sing." And the music in Swing Kids. :D)
3) I enjoy Tom Hanks. And I love Colin Hanks, too. As for favorite film ... Band of Brothers doesn't count, right? Assuming it doesn't count, I'd have to say ... um ... this is such a hard question! *weeps* I mean, when you say "Tom Hanks film," do you mean one where he was the undisputable star? Or just one that he was in, period? :-S I'm going for one where he was the undisputable star: Forrest Gump. I just love that movie.
4) HAHA! Outstanding question. Since I have no idea what she'd say (well, okay, yes I do, she'd probably sabotage my job and get me fired s that I'd move back to LA), I can only really tell you what I'd do, as her. I would:
* go through her computer and read any D/G ficbits that she might have stored on there that she hasn't yet shared with me
* make a long, rambly LJ post guaranteed to make people think I've gone off the deep end
* package up her portable DVD player, new laptop, and any CDs/DVDs I wanted and ship them to myself
* swim in her pool then run around her neighborhood in my bathing suit, singing "Henry the Eighth"
* eat celery and onions, just to see what the heck is so bad about them
* eat a bunch of other things, to see if any of it tasted differently
* flirt with all the bag boys at the local grocery store
* get things off shelves for people (since I would finally be tall and have the upper hand, so to speak)
* call her (me) on her (my) cell phone and torture her with the things I've been doing
Naturally, those are all the things I'd do if we weren't together. If we were together, it would sadly probably only consist of doing the same things we would if we were in our normal bodies (watch TV, eat, go to movies, play miniature golf, go to Magic Mountain). Only we might play some mind games on other people, particularly
5) :O :O :O
......... after much debating, I will go with Christian Bale, because I shouldn't participate in all-you-can-eat buffets anyway, and eventually I'd get enough of sushi. I'd never get enough of Christian. :D
6) HAHHAHAAHHAAHAA, I personally find an American doing a bad British accent creepier, probably because it happens so often. And because it is often unprovoked. Whereas I highly doubt Brits go around doing it for fun; usually it's for an acting gig or something, and also most are scarily good at it.
7) Just like you, they long to be ... close to me.
Re: You wily woman.

7) I do long to be close to you.
Re: You never put a limit on how many questions we could ask...
Date: 2004-11-19 02:06 am (UTC)Naturally, after I'd gotten the letter, I would of course bring in a portable stereo and go running down the halls in a bikini singing along to Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm at the top of my lungs. Just to give them all something to remember her by.

Date: 2004-11-19 01:32 am (UTC)their versions of this talethings I've forgotten and what not, but just remember that my account is probably most accurate.)I first met Robbie while chatting with Brandon Ray online. I'd been friends with Brandon for a week or so and felt pretty comfortable with him. One day, he invited this lady named Robbie to chat with us. I say "lady" because I was 20 or 21 at the time, and anyone older than 30 seemed like a "real adult" to me, whereas I was still a kid. I felt a bit intimidated, thinking that she was going to find me clueless and immature (HAHAHA to think of that now). But, she turned out to be easy to talk to and over time I grew comfortable talking to her.
One day when Robbie and I were chatting, a gal named Trixie showed up, who I had heard a lot about because we had a lot of mutual friends, but had never met. In typical Robbie fashion, five seconds after Trixie showed up and we were introduced, she announced that she had to go and left me with this virtual stranger. And I have been sorry ever since. Heehehehehehe. Okay, but seriously, even though we were in this awkward we-don't-know-each-other-at-all position, we soon found that we had many things in common (don't really remember what those things are now), and I liked that she seemed nice and personable. It was either at that first meeting or the next one that we plotted out a story together (XF), which never actually got written. It was strange because even though we'd both been writing at that point, the idea of collaborating with someone had never really appealed to me, and certainly not with someone I'd just met. I think the story was an Ally McBeal crossover. :)) Though we'd go through several fandoms together, it wouldn't be until Harry Potter that Trix and I actually co-wrote anything.
Anyway, time passed, the three of us came and went on AIM, as was the wont in those days, and chatted with whoever was around. The three of us didn't make an especial point to chat w/ only each other or anything. At some point, I forget when, I was going home to California (in those days I was working in D.C.), and when I mentioned this, Robbie said that she wanted to get together. I said OK, although I was fairly nervous about the prospect. Online chatting was a new thing for me, and I was really paranoid about meeting online people, because they might be freaks/murderers/whatever. I think she was going to meet Trix for the first time either just before she and I met, or just after ... I'm always unclear on that part of the timeline (mostly because it has nothing to do with me, so it's less interesting).
So we agreed to meet in Old Town Pasadena, because it seemed like a nice,
safeneutral location, and have lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. I'd seen a picture of her, so I knew what she looked like, kind of. I gave her a general description of myself, but it wasn't going to help much. :)) Close to the Cheesecake Factory in Old Town is a Jamba Juice. I was passing it when Robbie stepped out, and we figured out that we were the people we were supposed to meet. She said that she had gone in to get a lemonade. Now, this was so completely odd to me. In my head I was thinking, "What a strange person. I was right to be cautious. Who goes to Jamba Juice to get a lemonade when we are going to be in a restaurant in five minutes?" So yeah, I thought she was kind of a freak.

Date: 2004-11-19 01:32 am (UTC)But despite the fact that they were both so very odd, we all continued to meet up, because we had this crazy interest in X-Files fandom that no one else would understand. Plus they were fun and we had good times together. :D
The next thing I knew, I had gotten a job that required me to move out of state, even though I was staying on the west coast, and
no matter how hard I tried, I just could not shake them loose or cut them out of my lifesomehow we managed to remain close, although our friendship had been relegated back to online chat status. Partly it could have been that around this time we had a falling out with another friend of ours, and we bonded over it, which helped cement our relationship(s). Partly it was just good timing, that we were able to meet other like-minded individuals, who shared many of the same interests and had similar senses of humor, etc. Whatever it was, by the time the main thing that had brought us together ended (XF), our friendship had evolved beyond it.Robbie pretty much lost interest in fandom, whereas Jade and I were constantly moving around to the next shiny toy. Eventually we got to Harry Potter (after both avoiding it like the plague after initially discovering FanFiction.net), and we decided that this time around, we'd choose pen names that were closely related, just for kicks. We've questioned the wisdom of doing that since then, but that's how Jade and Sarea came about. <g>
And that's pretty much the whole thing. Not terribly interesting; it was primarily about luck and circumstance. But every time I make a new friend on LJ or elsewhere, I feel the same sense of gratitude that I feel when I think of how I met Jade and Robbie. I'm just glad to have these people in my life. And that includes you, lore!! *squishes*

Date: 2004-11-19 11:39 am (UTC)Thank you all for answering my question!! It's amazing and touching that you all came together so thoroughly just from online venturing. I thought maybe Sarea and Jade knew each other in high school or Ropo and Jade's families knew each other or one of you grew up on the same street as the other or something more in your histories other than the internet.
The fact that you came together out of pure intellect and formed lasting emotional relationships makes your Okelani Trio something special. I definitely am mentally squishing you all together. OT3! <33333
