New show that I'm watching: The Leftovers. I've watched both eps that have aired and have realllly enjoyed it so far. It's kind of like The Walking Dead without zombies. My only wariness comes from the fact that one of the creators is Damon Lindelof, and well... Lost. That's all I need to say.

Shows I'm done with:

Game of Thrones: The show just brings me more rage than enjoyment, and I feel happier after not watching it anymore. I think it does a lot of things well, but the things it doesn't do well makes me so annoyed that it's just not worth it. My biggest fear is that I'm going to have to find out what happens at the end of the series on the TV show, rather than getting to read about it in the books. :/

Elementary: This show had its charms, especially in S1, even though neither of the leads do anything for me. However, after finishing S2, I am completely done with it. Spoilery comment. )

In totally different news, I have gone completely camera lens crazy. This is because of the Richard Sherman Celebrity Softball game next weekend, where I want to get reallllllly good pictures. In the last couple of weeks I have purchased maybe five new camera lenses. >.> When my coworker D. found out, he was like, "OHMYGOD WHAT ARE YOU DOING. WHY DIDN'T YOU CONSULT ME." (He's sort of my mentor when it comes to photography and video making, as he does those things on the side, quite successfully.) So I sent him and another coworker, who's also an amateur-pro at photography, my current list of lenses, and got their opinions on which ones they would recommend I keep and which I should sell. They didn't see each other's comments until the end, so I was impressed that they both came up with roughly the same answers (which also lends credibility to them!).

If there are any photography experts out there who want to chime in with your opinion, your feedback would be welcome :) Or maybe this will help other amateurs like me who are curious about what lenses these guys think are worth keeping. Camera lenses for DSLRs! )

Sooooooo a few posts ago I might've mentioned that I was itching to get a new costly camera lens. The good news is, I did more research and felt that at this time, I didn't really need a new one, though there are certainly a few I'd like to have. The not-so-good news is, I've gone and bought a new camera. >.> Well, not so good in the sense that it's kind of a lot of money. But I am SUPER EXCITED ABOUT IT, so I suppose it's the good kind of spending. More details! )

Unfortunately, in the course of all my research, I realized that my D40 is very likely a gray market version. Why does everything have to be so complicated? )

I need to follow more Pinners (Pinteresters?) on Pinterest! Let me know what your username is if you're on there. I'm sareaokelani. Also I can invite people now so let me know if you want an invite! I'm really liking it. I tend to shy away from EVERYTHING that has to do with social media, but I love how fun and easy and useful I find Pinterest. I am spending way too much time in the food section. >.>

I'm feeling the urge to buy another expensive camera lens. Help!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

I have done something maybe stupidly spontaneous. As I got interested in food and cooking and food photography, in the back of my mind I've always considered getting a macro lens. But my existing lenses were always good enough, so I never really did any research on it. Well, I was going through a random food blog last night and she had great photos, as well as an info page about her equipment. And... well... you guessed it, she had a macro lens. Then came the feverish researching last night and this morning, and then I did it. I bought a really, really ridiculously expensive macro lens. Also, I love Ken Rockwell. He's my Nikon god. He's almost exhaustively thorough, yet easy to understand, and most importantly, always seems to know what the key points are that I care about. During my research, there were several lenses that came up as a possibility, and no matter how many reviews I read, I still didn't know how to tell the difference between them, or which would be right for me for my purposes. I was able to figure it out w/ Ken's help. Seriously if you have a Nikon go there for answers for any questions you might have.

All right, so I caved and started The Hunger Games. I was considering saving it until around August, when the third and final book is supposed to be out so I would have any between-book angst, but I was really excited to read this one and when you're that excited about a book it's not easy to pretend it doesn't exist. I have a few nitpicks here and there but I'm already totally hooked. Spoilers... mostly questions. )

Every time I watch Gosford Park I like it more. It's just so subtle and brilliant.
