empressvesica, a loooong Whedonverse meme. It's so long, in fact, that I cannot answer it in its entirety all at once. So here's part the first: character preferences.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel?
When all is said and done, despite its lackluster final season, Angel. While BtVS, I would argue, has more stand-out episodes, as a whole I found AtS more tightly written, with interesting plotlines that involved all the characters, and darkness and humor that I love. Plus I just liked AtS's characters more.
Angel or Spike?
Spike. I love Angel now, but that hasn't always been the case. He was useless on BtVS. Whereas I have loved all iterations of Spike through the years.
Buffy or Faith?
Faith. I like Buffy now (there was a time when I despised her), but mostly I still think of her as being whiny and annoying. And far too gaunt.
Darla or Drusilla?
While on BtVS? Dru all the way. But on AtS, Darla kicked so much ass, and since that's the show I prefer, I'm gonna go with Darla.
Willow or Xander?
Gawd, I don't know. *wibble* I would have said "Willow" without question until midway through S4. Then she got annoying. And then in later seasons she became absolutely intolerable. I also preferred early-seasons Xander, but he annoyed me less in later times. So by this scientific formula, I will go with Xander.
Anya or Tara?
Anya. Tara was a nice girl and I'd probably like to know her in real life, but she was dead boring, as was her melodramatic relationship with Willow. Anya is a snarky bitch, and I like that. Plus she makes me laugh.
Fred or Willow?
FRED. Without a doubt. She bugged me at first, but I really grew to like her. (Though not when she was with Wes in the final season. Blech.)
Gunn or Wes?
Gunn. I love Wes in his own way, but he doesn't really do anything for me.
Watcher Giles or Watcher Wes?
Watcher Giles!! *weepz* Oh, he was the best one.
Connor or Dawn?
Hahaha, are you kidding me with this?? CONNOR. CONNOR CONNOR CONNOR. Dawn is possibly the most annoying character to ever grace the Whedonverse. The only exception is Kennedy. And later-seasons Willow. (I was sooooo happy that time Dawn slapped Willow. So. happy.)
Oz or Tara?
Hmmmm. For Willow, I would say Tara (she did choose Tara, after all), and I might have to go with Tara as well. I like Seth Green, but Oz did not endear me. But you know what would really rock? Tara/Oz. Yeaaahhh!
Anya or Cordelia?
Cordy's my gal. Especially when she was on AtS, but even on BtVS -- she was catty and cutting and still amusing, whereas Anya can be hit and miss.
Andrew or Jonathan?
Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVES ME THE ANDREW!!! He was my favorite long before he had any significant role to play.
Kennedy or Tara?
Kennedy should die a thousand horrible deaths. However, in a way, I'm fine w/ her being with Willow, who is now useless to me. A roundabout way of answering, "Tara."
Giles or Joyce?
Joyce had her moments, but Giles wins.
Drusilla or Harmony?
For Spike? Drusilla. And I think I'll go with Dru, myself.
Cecily or Harmony?
Oh, Harmony, of course. Cecily was stupid.
Cecily or Hally (Halfrek)?
Halfrek, because Cecily was an uninteresting twit, whereas I'm curious about Halfrek's history.
Lilah or Lindsey?
This one's tough, but -- Lindsey. Especially prior to AtS S5.
Clem or Lorne?
Clem -- he was such a cutie! Lorne is merely annoying.
Killer Faith or Redemption-y Faith?
I rather like both, but not the extremes of either. I like her being a badass and edgy. However, since they made her kind of stupid while she was a baddie, I'll go with Redemption!Faith, who was smart enough to poison Angelus.
Ripper Giles or Rupert Giles?
Rupert Giles. I was never much into Giles's bad-boy history. I like knowing he's not a complete pansy, but I would have believed his tough moments even if he hadn't been Ripper. It's always the quiet ones!
Angel or Angelus?
Oh, I'm chewing on my fingernails now. If we're talking BtVS, the clear choice is Angelus. But on AtS, I would go with Angel. If I absolutely had to choose, Angel.
Fred or Illyria?
Fred. Illyria was too flat and uninteresting for me, no matter how hard they tried to convince me otherwise.
Buffy or Darla?
I'd pick Darla for Angel any day and twice on Sundays. As for which character I like better ... Buffy should be honored I even had to think about it, but I'll also say Darla. We don't see enough of her, but I'm not going to hold it against her.

OMG, that would have solved everything! Oz should have eaten Willow! I think it would have worked.
