A thousand thanks to the person who bought me LJ paid user time yesterday. I wish I knew who you were, so I could thank you properly and express my appreciation to you directly. Won't you reveal yourself?

I am a cruel person. See,
jade_okelani knows NOTHING about college bball. Yet I made her fill out a bracket anyway, and am now going to publically boggle at her choices. See, I made her do it because she has a kooky sixth sense about choosing winners and that sort of thing, and thought that if it looked remotely plausible, I'd put $$ on it in our office pool.
But here's her final four: Georgia Tech, Charlotte, Arizona, NC St. Eventual champion: Arizona. None of the 1 seeds even make it past the second round!!! You can see why I have now dubbed this bracket "Jade's Crazy Bracket." I'll be keeping track, oh yes, and if all these upsets happen I'm sure I will greatly regret not putting any money on her selections. BUT WOULD YOU????
If the tourney goes as skewed as she predicts, people all over the country will be offing themselves.
And in the interests of full disclosure, so people can make fun of me if they want, here's my final four: Gonzaga, St. Joe's, Miss St., Stanford.

Thank you to everyone who left feedback on yesterday's story. You rock!!! My appreciation will be expressed in the final version I submit to FA.

Date: 2004-03-17 07:06 pm (UTC)Obviously, you guys live out west and aren't able to consistantly watch the best conference in the nation play ball.
GA Tech has a very ugly history in the tourny - they were EMBARRASSED royally last time in. I don't expect anything different this year - they are very young with a freshman point guard. They have a young, but talented coach that is not versed in post season action. If anyone in the ACC has a shot at the final four it is NC State. Duke, maybe, but they will need some help from their division mates by bumping off Arizona. I would put my money on Air Force over UNC - they won't know what to do with AF's slow trapping defense.
Btw, I come by Duke adoration honestly. I come from a family with roots in North Carolina. All my childhood I heard Duke being bashed while Carolina praised. My father is a Virginia fan. I choose Duke to piss everyone off - when they started winning consistantly it was a bonus. I hate UNC with a passion greater than 10,000,000 burning suns - you can chuck Maryland up in there too.

Date: 2004-03-17 10:30 pm (UTC)I don't know what the deal is re: Georgia Tech. When I went to turn in my brackets, the guy handling it was all, "Why do you have GA Tech losing to BC?" And he went on and on about GA Tech so much that I ended up changing my mind about that and taking them to the Sweet 16 -- but not beyond.
The fact that they embarrassed themselves last time is all the more reason for them to prove themselves this time around, because they won't want to suffer that humiliation again.
Actually, living out West we get to see far more East Coast games than you see West Coast games -- you're in bed by the time our evening games air. This is historically why the West Coast conferences have been overlooked/underestimated, despite the PAC-10 consistently having 4 or more teams in recent history make it to the Sweet 16 (not this year, obviously) each time.
I never dissed on you personally for your Duke love. : ) It's a team I don't support, but if they win it all, they earned it. The only team I hate more is USC, but that's to be expected.

Date: 2004-03-17 11:58 pm (UTC)My team isn't good enough to go all the way this year unless they get a little help from some bracket busters.
Sorry about the gut reaction, but I live in a household where I'm soundly criticized for my adoration of Duke. My father gleefully recounts every loss in gory detail. Then I jab him back with at Duke made the dance unlike...I dunno VIRGINIA! I get so tired of hearing "where's the foul" I could just scream - it's not a foul until it's called a foul, Daddy - deal with it.
I'm still in shock that Richmond got an at-large bid - they had a terrible season! If VCU hadn't won their conference they wouldn't have gotten an at large bid despite having a great record. The at large invitations always amaze me. FSU should have gotten in over Richmond, although Richmond did *shock* Kansas which was fantastic and written about in the papers here for weeks. You'd thought they'd slayed a dragon or something :P
At least baseball is starting up soon....
btw, creamy mac & cheese recipe just for you :)

Date: 2004-03-17 10:21 pm (UTC)But um, don't you want your team to lose, so you won't have to stress so much at work anymore??
And besides, isn't it better to lose to a team that goes all the way to the Final Four than one that loses the very next round?
See, my choices were really made with you in mind. O:-)
