I have finished ep 8 of S1 of Orphan Black!

- In general, really enjoying it so far. It reminds me of Alias in all the good ways.

- Tatiana Maslany is, of course, a wonder. Love her. It probably doesn't need to be said, but the way she can melt into each clone is nothing short of amazing.

- That said, while I really like the main protagonist, Sarah, I also find it a little unrealistic that she went from being a rebel punk girl to "normal Sarah/less mousy Beth" in such a short time.

- My favorite clone, I think, is Allison. She's just so hilarious! I mean, yes, it was uncool that she slept with her friend's husband, thinking her friend was her monitor, but I don't love her because she's likeable.

- I also love Felix. Loooooooooove him.

- I've just seen the episode where Kira gets hit by a car at the end, and it was such an OMG moment. How could anyone, let alone a little girl, survive that?? I have no idea where they're going with it. Is it their way of getting rid of a child actor on the show, while having established that Sarah can have biological children? It was sweet but also a little unrealistic that she could immediately tell that Allison was not her true mother. (Also, I have to gripe about the car accident the same way I have to gripe about ALL car accidents show on TV/in the movies. Why the FUCK do they always have the driver hit their horn?!?! If they have time to do anything at all, THEY WOULD BE SWERVING OUT OF THE WAY, not blaring their horn in warning, which you only do to other drivers who are about to do something dangerous. Think about it, if you're in that situation... If there's a person in the road, a driver -- assuming they aren't psycho -- wouldn't take the time to hit their horn. If it's a sudden thing where a little girl appears in the road out of nowhere, the driver would do everything in their power not to hit the person, not barrel full force ahead and honk their horn to, what, make the PERSON get out of the way? Fucking ridiculous.)

- At this point, I assume Sarah is actually the original. That's my theory at this point in time, anyway. It would explain why she is the only one of them to be able to have biological children, and why Helena seems drawn to her for no other apparent reason. I'm interested to hear their "medical reason" for why/how they're able to tell the clones apart if they're genetically identical...

- The weakest part of this show are all of the love interests.

Paul: Played by one of the worst actors I've ever seen. He's so generically good looking that he's not even good looking anymore, if that makes sense. There's also been so little done with his character that his being "in love" with Sarah doesn't feel the least bit real and just makes me roll my eyes.

Vic: Such a tiresome character. He is the worst of all worlds. At first when he was just a threatening drug dealer, that was bad enough. Then he turned into the wallowing ex-boyfriend, then the one who turned up to screw everything up. GO AWAY ALREADY. I'm really hoping that we have seen the last of him and Michael Mando will not be in the following seasons.

Delphine: She's actually OK, except that her existence and Cosima's response to her makes me kind of hate Cosima. She KNOWS Delphine is likely her monitor, and rebuffed her initial advances, yet she stupidly charges ahead anyway, because, what, she wants to sleep with her? Ugh.

- The mythology is a huge blob of "I don't know what the fuck is going on" for me right now. But I'm used to it from Lost and The X-Files so I'm fine with waiting it out. I just hope there's a decent payoff, instead of it just not making any sense. Like, I don't get why what's his face is running the whole experiment and why he's all up in Cosima's business but not any of the others... why is he even in direct contact with her at all? Couldn't he have done that through an intermediary? And then that whole thing with Olivier and his tail (WTF??)... I have to say, I was glad he died early. I thought he was a bad actor, too. Also he reminded me of Little Gideon from Gravity Falls, lol, just a grown-up, live-action version of him, and that was creepy. :))

- And of course, I have no idea who Helena's handler is. Helena is both fascinating and annoying. I really don't like the music that accompanies her, even though it is apropos. She's just so... creepy. And fanatic. And, well, crazy. At least she was willing to let Kira go, though of course that ended horribly.

- I'm not sure what to make of Mrs. S. I wanted to dislike her because I hated her on Downton Abbey, but I liked her in The Tudors. :)))) Anyway, it would seem that she's not a super-bitch trying to keep Sarah from her daughter, but actually has Kira's best interests at heart, and it would have been fairly challenging to raise children like Sarah and Felix (rebellious foster children). So as of now, I am cautiously optimistic about her intentions, though she's the kind of character that's going to need to turn out to be evil, or be killed off. Otherwise she's too much of a safety net, and yet a target, same as Kira.

- If Kira lives, I wonder if at some point we're going to meet her father. In shows like this, in fact, it's almost a certainty. And he may even have something to do with the larger mythology.

...I guess that's all for now. :))

Edit: Dang, I can't believe I forgot the only other character I really like... Art! He has APPROPRIATE responses to things. He's not stupid, he questions "Beth," but he also wants to give her the benefit of the doubt despite the evidence because he knows her and has loyalty. So yeah, I'm a fan of Art and hope that eventually I can ship him with Sarah instead of the other fools.
