Loved last night's ep. Felt very old school Alias, which is A Good Thing. Except I still can't feel anything for Syd/Vaughn.

I loved the pace and the plot and the twists and turns. It felt like the Alias of old, and it wasn't until the end of the episode that I realized Lauren wasn't in it. I wonder if that's really what did it? Does her character change the dynamic that much? I think it's partly it's that when she's not there, I'm not reminded every second of Vaughn's stupid betrayal, or having to see Sark be her bitch.

Weiss! I nearly had a heart attack when I thought he'd really been shot -- I thought one of the masked people was Lauren. Jade points out that this is the first time a spoiler (that Greg Grunberg has his own show pilot) has done us any good; we actually believed there was a chance that Weiss could actually die. Oh, I would/will *weep* if/when that happens.

Is it just me or should Sydney have told the guy that she killed his brother, in the interest of full disclosure? In a case like this, the truth might have done wonders. Instead, we get more manufactured suspense (oh yes, the bomb ticks down to one second, again). Plus, I am SO TIRED of the overused "man I love" speech. As Jade ranted, that's only appropriate on rare occasions so that it actually has impact. Plus, it's so not gasp worthy. Maybe if we were in doubt about Sydney's feelings for Vaughn, we could go, "OMG she still loves him!" but instead it's completely predictable and tired.

Really liked Jack killing the dude, though. And I liked the evil guy; he was chilling in an understated way.

Michael Vartan's British accent was awful. He should not attempt that again. And he doesn't have any of Bradley Cooper's boyish charm to make us see past it. I enjoyed both Vaughn and Sark being called pretty boys. (In an unrelated note, can I just say that I am blown away that David Anders is only 23 freakin' years old????????? He couldn't even drink when he started in S1!)

I'm sorry, but Sark would so have kicked Vaughn's ass in the cargo hold. He had a knife, the element of surprise, and years of experience. They just had to give Vaughn something because he was so useless w/ the bomb. And of course, it was so hot that Sark knew what he was doing. He's Marshall, only good looking and badass. Brains and beauty, that's what it's all about. Vaughn hasn't got the former, really, and the more I see him, the less attractive I think he is. Plus Michael Vartan just does not convince me that he could kick anyone's ass. As evidenced by the way he keeps getting into scrapes that Sydney has to get him out of.

And this is very unfortunate, considering how they're so trying to shove Sydney/Vaughn down our throats. Don't get me wrong. I shipped Syd/Vaughn at one time. But they killed it. And now they're trying to make me angst for them again when they haven't earned at all. Well, I can't do it. You can't jerk me around with Lauren and with Syd and Vaughn deciding that the best thing to do is to move on with their lives, and then try and bullshit me with this. The "man I love" speech was bad enough, but then when he showed up in the parking garage -- PUH-LEEZE. The scene was done well, the direction, the music, blah blah. But that's all meaningless if I don't feel anything for the characters on the screen. It should have just been a solitary Syd moment.

MORE SARK, PLEASE.

And now for some Alias fanfic recs, all by [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_, who I used to know from XF. It's funny how life comes full circle sometimes. These are fantastic drabbles.
