I LOVE it when somehow, all my meetings for the day get canceled. Especially on a Friday.

I like regular vanilla lattes at Starbucks best, but there's this espresso stand that has the best vanilla soy latte ever. And it has the benefit of being on my way to work, thus it gets my business. However, I have been making it at home more, grinding the beans a week in advance as [livejournal.com profile] fearthainn suggested. Coffee addiction, it ain't pretty.

Yesterday I spent $160 at Wizards of the Coast, because the store is closing and everything was on sale. I took the opportunity to get a bunch of games I wanted, including special edition Cranium in a tin for $25. MtG stuff was only 10 percent off, though.

Today I went through all the kitchens in my building (10 of them) and hung up March Madness flyers. I can't believe it's that time of year again! Since the Bruins aren't doing so hot this year (we are a YOUNG TEAM with a NEW COACH, all right?!?!), I figure I might have a shot at winning a March Madness pool this year, unhampered by sentimentality.

Speaking of pools, here's the last reminder about the Oscars one. If you haven't entered or if you want to change your answers or fill in answers, etc., you'll have until 4:00pm on Sunday to do so. I'll note the last voter at that time.

Now for TV:

Smallville:

Who knows if it was even 30 seconds, but there was PRIMO Lex/Lana to be had. Oh, Jade and I were so right about the direction of this show, even if we had expected the actual show to be better than it's been. Lex touched Lana's face! Lex rubbed a smudge off her cheek with his thumb, and was being all gentle! Lex basically admitted that what he was doing was for Lana's sake, and Lana's sake alone! And was all ... meaningful about it. I honestly don't know if it's just MR and they can't see what he's doing, or if they're planting seeds. However, if things keep going in this vein, I may yet purchase additional Smallville DVDs.

AtS: A Hole in the World

I have not read anyone else's comments on this ep, because I never know when one of you spoilersluts are lurking, and I don't want to get spoiled by accident. <g> After Joss's last two attempts, I wasn't sure if he had it in him anymore. I mean, they were fine, even if they were regurgitated BtVS episodes. It was like he'd used up the last of his creativity w/ the musical. And while I wouldn't say this was a genius of an episode, it was entertaining.

Touching, not so much. I've never been much into Fred/Wes, but I could have been at least theoretically into it had it not seemed completely rushed and forced so that we could get to this forced angst. There was continuity from the last episode (Gunn's brain upgrade, F/W), but that's not all that impressive. I mean, even Smallville can do that. And I wouldn't say that F/W came out of the blue. After all, Wes has been interested in Fred for a long time. But there's a difference between suggestion and actual building, and what we got of F/W in the last ep did not follow what we've gotten for the ship this season. I mean, it wasn't too long ago that Fred was showing signs of being interested in Knox and being completely oblivious to Wes; there was even some Fred/Spike for awhile (though admittedly that could be due to them wanting to build a friendship between the two of them, so Spike would feel actual concern for her when she fell ill).

Now I'm interested w/ what they're planning for Fred. Is she really dead, or is this some kind of lame Jean Grey thing? If she's really dead -- wow. She was the only female principle cast member, and she's Fred. If the Fred we know is dead, just ... wow. If those were really her final moments, with Wes, WOW. But if this is just a sort of temporary thing that's gonna get fixed later ... eh.

Then I've gotta say, come up with something new. You've done this already -- TWICE. Willow, Cordy. Remember? Though I must say, Fred looked super awesome. Much cooler and more threatening/chilling than either of the other gals.

And what was w/ Angel even momentarily saying "screw the world, we're going to save Fred"? That's not how a hero thinks!! :-l Plus Angel has never been that close to her. Maybe if it were Buffy, or Cordy, or even Faith. Okay, maybe not Faith. You know what I mean.

I totally adored the Angel/Spike interaction. That opening scene was gold. They might make me an Angel/Spike shipper yet. They remind me of fanon!Harry and Draco.

Is Gunn just a cold-blooded killer now? Eeee.

And finally, the most important question -- cavemen or astronauts? I really think this depends on the environment -- are we in the modern world, or caveman territory? I'll give odds to the home team. However, if forced to pick, I think I'd go w/ astronauts. I mean, they have to be in pretty good physical shape, and they should be able to outsmart the cavemen, with centuries of human learning on their side. Of course, that could also make them pansies.

Scorpio Drinking style: Don't ever tell Scorpios they've had enough, for they'll smirk at you and quietly but intentionally keep tippling till they're hog whimpering drunk, out of 100-proof spite. Scorpios like to drink, and screw you if you have a problem with that. Most of them see the sauce as something to savor in itself, and not as a personality-altering tool -- though if depressed, self-loathing Scorps seek total obliteration. But generally, they're fascinating drinking pals, brilliant conversationalists and dizzying flirts. They also remember everything -- especially what you did when you were blitzed. Only drink with a Scorpio who likes you.

Hahahaha, you've been warned. Find your own drinking style here.

Well what kind of discounts did they have? Are we talking 25, 50, 75%?

Depended on the type of merchandise. Board games and such were 30% off, other things were 40% off. Other lesser-known game stuff was 50%. And as I said, MtG was only 10%. I think half was about as high as they went. Perhaps as they start winding down w/ the sale they'll go higher.

Meh. Don't trouble yourself to return. Retail markup on gaming merchandise is through the roof anyway, 50% is what I'd normally pay on ebay.
