I am now obsessed with Arrow, and it's all [personal profile] akscully's fault. There are two parts of the show that I especially love: The plot Stephen Amell working out, and the ensemble cast Olicity. Luckily, YouTube is there to provide me with copious amounts of both. Actually the plot's fairly good. If you haven't seen the show before, you should watch the pilot. It's a realllllllly good pilot.

If you already watch Arrow, yay and be well.

For those who don't, and need more convincing, I am now going to get slightly spoilery and will put a reasonably short introduction and vids behind a cut.

I don't know anything about Green Arrow the comic, so all this is from the show.

Background on Oliver: A young, rich, good-looking player, Oliver Queen goes on a trip with his dad on their yacht and brings along Sara, his girlfriend Laurel's sister (yep, he's an asshole with commitment issues). There's an accident and he ends up alone, stranded on an island for five years. Things happen to Oliver on the island, things that change him into someone dark, intense and driven (not to mention cut). The story begins with his rescue. He's no longer an irresponsible playboy, though he has to act the part once he gets back to his life. By day he's the same Oliver Queen he always was; by night he's a vigilante who goes after the people who have failed the city he loves.

Background on Felicity: She's a girl in the IT department who Oliver goes to for help with computer issues. (Fact: He gives the most awful cover stories in the world. :)) It's amazing no one has put together his alter ego identity.) She starts off as a minor character, but eventually becomes one of the two primary members of Oliver's crime-fighting team (well, three if you count Oliver). Fan reaction to Felicity has been overwhelmingly positive (way more so than to his canon love interest, Laurel), and she was made into a regular cast member in S2.

The exciting thing is that it appears the producers of the show (not to mention the actors themselves) are willing to deviate from canon. Unlike other shows who keep shoving canon pairings down your throat because that was the original intention and by god they're going to stick to it, those who are involved with Arrow want to please their fanbase and continue to have jobs by giving us what we want, but in a way we need. :D That is to say, the people have spoken, and it hasn't taken them years to figure out whether they want to go a different direction or how. They're just doing it. And it's awesome.

So if you're not afraid of spoilers and need visual assistance to help you decide if this pairing (and thus show) is for you, here you go!

Arrow's 35-second opening, which basically tells you the same thing I tell you above about Oliver, but with visual aids!

The very first fight sequence from the pilot episode, cementing Oliver's post-island status as a badass:

A bunch of cute moments between Oliver and Felicity (3 min, 30 sec), including their first meeting and all the terrible lies that he tells. :D Confession: I have to watch this at least once a day or I feel like something is missing:
