I HATE WIKIPEDIA. No, I didn't mean it baby, I love you, you know I do. Except why do you have to piss me off and make me say things I don't mean? You bring it on yourself, Wikipedia! Well, I have been spoiled AGAIN for something huge because I was looking up info on actors/characters (which, yes, I should just refrain until I've watched the whole series, but damn it, it's HARD).

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BODIE DIES AT THE END OF S4!!!!!!!!!!!!

#@$^&*%#@*#%@^%

OK, what the FUCK, seriously. If Stringer was the best of the kingpins, Bodie was the best of the street kids. And yeah, I really hate that he had a hand in the death of Wallace. But he's another great character and someone I really rooted for and enjoyed watching. He's had criminally little screen time. I suppose I should be glad he's survived as long as he has? I guess? I was so happy when he was able to get off at the end of S3 when the rest of the Barksdale crew was being hauled off to jail.

I mean, I get that this show is about stark realism. I get that that's part of the tragedy, that these kids die so young, that the rise and fall of the various drug organizations mean that the war on drugs will never end. I get that what happens to Bodie, like most of the rest of his crew, really drives home how merciless and hopeless it is for street kids like him. BUT DAMN IT I DON'T WANT HIM TO DIE. :(( Now I wish he had been carted off to jail, if otherwise it means he's going to die at the age of 20. Jesus.

Also, and maybe I'm just being biased because S1 was my favorite season, but I just feel like Marlo and Chris and Snoop are just more evil than the Barksdales were. I'm probably wrong about that; it's not like the Barksdale organization never did bad things, but I felt like they at least had lines. I can't imagine them killing that one mini-mart security guard for talking back, or that delivery woman to set up Omar.

Ugh, I'm so depressed. At least with Idris Elba I can see him in other things (I'm so watching Luther), but J.D. Williams hasn't done much else (though I am going to be watching Oz).

Now there are no street guys that I root for. Maybe that was the point of getting rid of all the likable ones, they didn't want people to be confused about whose side they should be on. :P

I can't believe how much Dominic West's role has been cut down in S4. O.o It's like if Fox Mulder turned into Frohike, screen time wise. It's really weird. I like all the school stuff this season, but the politics stuff bores me to tears. I don't need a show to tell me that the political system is seriously messed up and 99% of politicians are immoral assholes. The one I hate most is Clay Davis. -.-

On the cop side, my favorites are Sydnor, Herc and Carver. But Herc and Carver are better together than individually, and they've never been as great as they were in S1. S2 was ok too, but S3 was meh and S4's not any better. And they never really give Sydnor anything to do. Oh S1, how great you were. I miss you so.

I stayed up too late so I could watch Game of Thrones. I just took some aspirin for my headache. :(

- Dany has been annoying me. Her threats really aren't that threatening. I also don't understand why she wouldn't simply show them the dragons, to prove they exist. Was it because they were too small? I don't remember this scene from the books so I'm not sure what her reasoning was. But the way it played out on screen, it just seemed totally wtf. Her people were starving, on the brink of death, etc., and Qarth was ready to invite them in if only she would show them her dragons. So why the hell was she dead set against it? Some kind of power trip or what? Made NO sense.

- OK, I guess it's about time I gave up hope on Sansa/Hound for the show. I'm super disappointed. Damn that [personal profile] akscully for getting my hopes up! She was like, "Oooooh it's gonna be the cloak scene where he covers her up!" And indeed, the Hound is the one to cover it up, but not until Tyrion orders it (maybe that's the way it happened in the books, I don't remember), and it wasn't even focused on much. There was no lingering look between them or ANYthing. The only saving grace was that he used his white cloak to do it. I really liked how Tyrion showed his admiration of her fortitude. GO SANSA!

- The best bits involved Tyrion this week. (The only time it doesn't, really, is when Shae is involved -- I can't stand the Shae they chose.) That scene with Lancel was HILARIOUS! He broke him so quickly. It was awesome.

- Mmmmmmmmmmm Robb. Sometimes I wish Richard Madden had been cast as Jon Snow. Then again I like Kit too so mainly it's when Richard's on screen. :)) Anyway, what was with the exchange between him and the healer woman? Uhhh is he going to have an affair with her instead of Jeyne? I mean WTF was the point of that?

- It's amazing how much screentime Roz gets, when she's not even a character in the books. >< But anyway, this week it was to pleasure Joffrey, who is even more of a little sadist than he was in the books, and I didn't think that was possible. He was really young in the books -- 11? 12? -- so I don't remember if Tyrion gave him whores? Was that just a show thing so they could drive home the point that Joffrey needs to go?

- Waaaaay too much emphasis on the shadow baby, both its origins and its birth. I mean, she's a fucking witch! I don't think if she just conjured a shadow to kill Renly out of nowhere anyone would question it at all. We don't need all this set up for the shadow, jeez.

- Continuing to love Margaery. Natalie Dormer was the only reason I even wanted to watch The Tudors (though even she couldn't get me to watch past the first season).

- I always thought Catelyn's choice to release Jaime Lannister for her two daughters was incredibly stupid, but in the books there's at least some strategy behind it (even if I didn't agree with it). The way it's being set up on the show, it seems there's no doubt that it's going to be an incredibly stupid move.

- Why is this show only 10 episodes long? Even The Wire gets 12 episodes per season! There's a lot of shit that needs to happen in ASoIaF and they could tell a lot more of the story with more episodes! And maybe we wouldn't have to go an entire episode without Jon Snow!

I've been going a little crazy with fish lately. When I was at Whole Foods the other week I decided to buy some fresh black cod. I LOVE black cod, and it's not easy to find -- I've only ever seen it at H-Mart, and only frozen. So when I saw it fresh at WF I decided to splurge, even though the 1-lb fillet of it cost $25. I also bought 2 small trout at the same time. I smoked the black cod and the trout, but was really unhappy with the way the black cod turned out. It was mushy. I've had black cod plenty of times and it's never been mushy; its texture is silky. I wasn't sure if it was because of my cooking method or if it was the fish itself. I was going to chalk it up to it being my bad, but my mind kept going back to it. What if it wasn't my fault? It was way too expensive a fish to just assume fault on my part! So I decided to go back to WF and talk to them about it. They gave me a full refund and I ended up using the leftover fish to make a really great cream cheese spread. :D

Then this weekend I bought a "yellowtail," which was labeled as "hamachi," but I knew when buying it that it probably wasn't that. There's another fish called yellowtail that's not actually hamachi and that's likely what it was (it did not taste anything like hamachi). It was huge so I ended up broiling it. Wasn't too crazy about this fish at all, but Talis and Jaime both enjoyed it, lol. I'll use them to help with the leftovers. I also got a red tilapia, which I didn't know existed. I steamed it Chinese style, and it was wonderful. I don't know if it was because it was a particularly fresh specimen, or whether red tilapia is always this good. I also got two regular tilapia, which I salted for 24 hours then smoked. After the experience with the black cod I decided to read up more on smoking fish, and it seems that most smoked fish is salted first. (That may have been the problem with the black cod, except I did also smoke those two trout, unsalted, at the same time, and those came out fine.) It turned out well, if a little salty, so now I'll have to see what I can do with it!
