Pardon me...
Mar. 16th, 2011 12:26 pm... while I GEEK OUT over all these new trailers for Game of Thrones that HBO's been releasing.
Inside the cut are short profiles of four of the prominent families featured in the series (but by no means inclusive of ALL the prominent families -- ASoIaF is seriously epic): Stark, Lannister, Targaryen, and Baratheon. If you're planning to watch the series, or are thinking about it, this might be a good Cliff's Notes way to familiarize yourself with some of the players before it starts. :D
House Stark
Probably the most important family in the series, as most of the action revolves around one of them. There's Ned (Sean Bean), his wife Catelyn, their kids Rob, Sansa, Arya, Bran, and Rickon, and Ned's bastard son, Jon Snow.
House Lannister
The family you love to hate. The Lannisters are mostly portrayed as beautiful, villainous, and clever. There's the head of the Lannister family, Tywin, who isn't shown in the trailer, and his children, Jaime and Cersei (incestuous twins), and Tyrion (a dwarf). My cat was named Jaime after Jaime Lannister. :D There are also other assorted Lannisters who have less prominence.
House Targaryen
The Targaryens used to rule the Seven Kingdoms, until the last Targaryen rule was overthrown by Robert Baratheon's rebellion. (The reason the rebellion started is possibly my favorite part of ASoIaF, and also one of the series' biggest mysteries. :D) Two of the deposed king's children, Viserys and Daenerys, escape and live in exile. Viserys plots to regain his rightful place on the throne.
House Baratheon
Robert Baratheon is the 'new' King of the Seven Kingdoms, though by the time GoT events take place, he's been king for like 15 years already. He's married to Cersei Lannister (see above), and they have three children: Joffrey, Tommen, and Myrcella.
While I am super excited about Game of Thrones, to be honest, I can't wait to get to the other books. GoT is really just the beginning, a prologue, if you will. So much more happens.
