It's official!
Jun. 13th, 2010 07:03 pmIt's official... I've adopted Jaime! I just couldn't imagine sending him back to the shelter, so now he's mine. :-) It was really a bargain. For the month of June, Homeward is doing $25 cat adoptions (usually $100). The cats are all spayed/neutered, have all their necessary shots, and are tested for FIV and FeLV (Jaime is negative on both). Apparently once you adopt, you also get a certificate to get your first vet visit free (most vets will accept it), which you are supposed to use within the first 7 days of adoption. Plus, you get all these free supplies at Mud Bay! I went tonight and totally loaded up. I got:
- 3 12.5oz cans of Wellness cat food (it's one of those super fancy brands... Jaime was already eating this as I'd gotten it for him a few days ago -- get this, the chicken & lobster flavor; lobster is the fifth ingredient listed!)
- 47oz Wellness dry cat food
- 12oz frozen raw food, lamb
- 25lb Integrity premium cat litter
All that was free (!!!), and then for $29 ($4 off $30) I got:
- 40lb Crown Bedding (it's kitty litter made of recycled newspaper; I wanted to try it, because apparently kitties don't then track the litter all over)
- 2 catnip toys (kind of pricey, but it's gratifying to buy Jaime toys because he actually plays with all of them, unlike Talis, who never plays with his toys)
- a safety collar
I don't know if all shelters set you up that nicely, but I was super impressed! I think I want to get a cat tree, and then I swear I'm done buying things for Jaime. >.>
On the garden front, I'm feeling pretty good. I transplanted my tomato and basil seedlings today, and it feels really good to have that done. Granted I may feel differently in a few weeks if they've died or if they don't grow much, but for now, yay. The 10-day weather forecast doesn't look promising, very cloudy and in the 60s. Hopefully the newly planted seedlings will be able to endure the unseasonable cold. Seriously, WHEN IS SUMMER GOING TO START??? In other good news, my garlic plants have sent up scapes! That means they're that much closer to being ready to harvest, woot. Plus, I've gotten many great suggestions for how to eat those delicious scapes. I think I'm going to let them grow a bit more before I cut them, though.
