BSG S4 & food blog news

Something semi-cool has happened. A rep from cookware.com contacted me re: my food blog and is offering any item from that site up to $40 to either keep (if I do a review of it) or give away (as part of a giveaway contest on my food blog). The only thing about these sorts of promotions is that I feel kind of... well, bought. I'd feel compelled to give the product a good review, and $40 really isn't that much. When Jade and I used to write book reviews for Smallville novels (we were contacted in the same way, and given the books), the same thing happened. The reviews took a long time and what we were getting return was really nothing. As for a giveaway, I don't think enough people even read my food blog to make it worthwhile. The one thing I need to find out is if this is an ongoing, or one time, thing. If I could have regular giveaways or regularly get fun new kitchen equipment, it might be worth it. Still, it's always nice to be recognized, even in a small way.
- I had totally been writing down my notes for 2-3 more episodes after my last post, but then I hit the back button, and since I was editing the post rather than creating a new one, it didn't save my draft and I LOST IT ALL. /cry Rather than try and repeat it all, I'm just going to pretend I never wrote all that.
- So I'm done with the final season now and... I find myself confused, but not necessarily in a bad way. I just feel like there was a lot there, and I don't think I 'get' it all. I feel like I'm missing a lot of the parallels/meanings.
- Take Kara. WTF? So... what was she, exactly? How did she come back if she wasn't a cylon? If it was to help them find Earth (you know, "an" Earth, if not "the" Earth), then what was with all the prophecy about her being the harbinger of death and all that? And WTF happened to her in the last episode? She was like... an angel? But again, then WTF w/ all the talk of her leading the human race to destruction and what not?
- I kind of like that Lee and Kara never get together. I mean, on the one hand, I totally wanted them to start a little family together and get to be a couple at long last on the new planet, but on the other hand I like that they didn't go for the obvious. Does that mean that Lee and Kara have never, ever actually slept together? I remember an interruption and kissing, but it wasn't clear if they'd actually taken it that far yet, what with Lee saying that he wouldn't cheat on Dee.
- Who was the 8th cylon model that was mentioned, someone named Daniel??
- If Cavil wanted to teach his 'parents' a lesson (eww that he made Ellen sleep w/ him on New Caprica, when she had created him -- so he was her 'son' -- and she had also given him the likeness of her father -- so he was also her 'father'!), why didn't he/the other cylons ensure their parents would live during the nuclear war destroying the colonies? Seemed like pure blind luck/coincidence that they didn't die. Not Ellen, because Cavil was there, but Anders and Tori could have easily died.
- Why did Hera leave Helo and Athena while being rescued? It seemed that she was deliberately seeking out 6 and Baltar. But it wasn't like she was actually in any danger, she didn't seem to have any reason for doing it, other than to fulfill the vision of the opera house. I thought that was a really weak scenario, particularly given that it's not like Helo and Athena died so that she was running to the people who would actually become her parents. And speaking of that, why the hell did 6 keep telling Baltar that Hera was their daughter, when she wasn't in any way? The way they dealt with that as well as the opera house made it seem like they had introduced those concepts without really thinking them through, and then half assed it at the end.
- I am, however, very glad that Helo and Athena survived. It was so, so, SO traumatic when Helo was having sex with Boomer and Athena was in the closet!!
- Speaking of Boomer... really, what the hell. I've seen a bit of "The Plan" and there's this scene where Boomer on the Galactica goes to Cavil to report on her progress... so had she been playacting the whole time when she seemed really torn about who she was? But why playact after she resurrected and found out that she was, indeed, a cylon, when she was in her old apartment in denial, talking about the people she loved, etc.? Or was she in a different 'zone' when she was reporting to Cavil, and not knowing what she was doing in her conscious mind, when she returned to her Sharon Valerii state of mind?
- Sorry, but what she 'owed' Adama, considering the other things she did, seemed really weak and lame. I wish it had been something more meaningful, like they made it out to be, for her to have made the choice to return Hera. As for everything else she did, all the bad stuff, I guess I have to chalk it up to bitterness at how she was treated once she was discovered to be a cylon, by Chief and others -- even though that doesn't really fit, because they had already treated her badly when she was back in her old apt post-resurrection. But it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I felt it was entirely out of character from what we were shown of her. I guess they felt that since Athena was around, and she was a 'good' cylon, and also an 8 to boot, that they couldn't have another one. But I thought that did a real disservice to the Boomer character.
- Lots to think about, and I'm sure I have more, but that's all for now.
