Today I went to the Seattle Tilth Festival. Because it was an usually warm September day, people came out in droves. My cousin said that it was usually a pretty empty festival, but today it was packed. You could tell the vendors were totally unprepared for the crowds because everyone kept running out of everything super early.

I didn't do anything but walk around in the sun, but it was exhausting. I'm glad summer's not over, but it doesn't need to be in the 80s. Mid-to-upper 70s will do. I also ate a huge hamburger. In reality it probably wasn't that huge, but I had already eaten other things by then and I couldn't finish. It's too bad, too, because it was a great burger. I got it from Skillet, which is a traveling restaurant. It's an airstream trailer that travels around and you have to go to their site to see where they're going to be next. They're famous for their burgers (using seasonal/locally sourced ingredients) and their bacon jam (tasted like pulled pork to me). I took pictures: here is the airstream trailer w/ people waiting to place their order, and here was today's lunch menu, which is written on the side of the trailer.

I bought a big bag of Bartlett pears, a pint of sun gold tomatoes (they were SO juicy and sweet it was like eating candy. Almost), and most excitingly of all, German Butterball potatoes! Why is this exciting, I pretend you ask? Because those are supposedly the best kind of potatoes to make mashed potatoes from, according to the Zuni Cafe Cookbook. But I've never been able to find them, so I always end up using Yukon Gold (which are good too). Now I have to make those buttermilk mashed potatoes again with these potatoes, to see if there's actually a difference. :D

And now, time for a meme, gacked from [profile] jade_okelani.

Pick five of your favorite shows, in no particular order, before you read the below questions, then answer them!

My shows:

1. Alias
2. House
3. Lost
4. Angel
5. Sex and the City

They were almost all one-worders until I got to S&tC, but I couldn't bring myself to exclude it.

Who's your favorite character in 2?
As much as I like all the characters - and Cuddy comes in a close second - House can't be upstaged.

Who's your least favorite character in 1?
I won't cheat and I'll choose from the main characters. I'd have to say Dixon. Just too boring.

What's your favorite episode of 4?
Oh FFS... I can't resist sillyness. I'd have to say puppet!Angel.

What's your favorite season of 5?
I guess I'd have to say the last, because I think the show improved every year it was on. Plus the finale was just so great.

Who is your favorite ship in 3?
Hmm, interesting question for Lost. I mean, it's one show where I'm not really very shippy about it. I'd love to see Claire/Sawyer, I think. :D

Who is your antiship in 2?
Cuddy/Wilson. Just not into it.

How long have you watched 1?
Well, I started it while S2 was airing, I think. Then I watched to the end. The bitter, bitter end.

How did you become interested in 3?
Because everyone on the entire planet watched it and loved it. Okay, maybe not North Korea.

Who's your favorite actor/actress in 4?
It's tempting to say James Marsters, but I'm going to disqualify him and choose someone who was actually on the show for multiple seasons. I think I'm gonna have to go with Amy Acker. She's so good at being cute AND evil! A winning combination!

Which do you prefer: Show 1, 2, or 5?
Sex and the City. I love the other two shows, but S&tC totally wins.

Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3?
Actually, probably about the same amount, but if we're going by strict number count, I think Alias.

If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?
Well, not anyone who's died, which unfortunately leaves very few choices left. I guess I'd be Connor, because then I'd kick a lot of ass AND be the most well-adjusted one by the time "After the Fall" happens.

How would you kill off your favorite character in 1?
My favorite character is/was Sydney. And I'd have killed her off before she became totally lame and took Vaugn back even after he married someone else. Maybe she'd die on a mission as Julia. Or possibly really dramatically by having sex with Sark then taking poison. Or maybe by saving some really important person's life, and all the news outlets will talk about how she was so awesome, how could anyone ever have moved on from loving her, especially after 2 measley years.

Give a random quote from 1?
Jack Bristow: When I look at her, when I look at the little girl who raised herself to become one of the most extraordinary human beings and one of the finest agents I've ever had the privilege of knowing, I see only the promise of my own redemption. Turning myself in was the only way I could think of to make that clear to her, to prove that despite... my limited abilities as a father, I love her more than I could ever say.

Which character from 5 would be a good guest star on 2?
Oh, ANY of them, really, with the way they sleep around, LOL. But I'll say Samantha, because I'd love to see her turn her charm on House.

Would a 3/4 crossover work?
Oh, totally. Never mind that the star of 4 (Angel) would burst into flames and be nothing but ash after the first night on the beach.

Pair 2 characters in 1 that would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple.
Francie Clone/Francie. I'm not going to defend myself.

Has 5 inspired you in any way?
Of course! That friendship between women is a precious, priceless thing ... and that if you write it well, it can make you super successful. :))

Overall, which show has a better cast, 2 or 4?
I'm going to go with Angel. That's not a diss on the House actors, but come on, that show would be nothing without Hugh Laurie.

Which has better theme music, 3 or 5?
Definitely Sex & the City. Does Lost even have a theme?

Edit: And since I'm bored, here's another meme, gacked from [personal profile] ceilidh.

My username is: [profile] sarea_okelani. It's my HP fandom writer name (so far, I've used a different one for nearly every fandom I've written in), and the journal was initially started just for fandom stuff. It's moved way beyond that now, obviously. I actually wanted just plain Sarea, but someone named Sara owns it on LJ (but not Dreamwidth, HAHA, take that unknown Sara!) and never posts. Not that I'm bitter about that.

My journal name is: sarea, a cupcake short of a baker's dozen - had to get a food reference in there somehow.

My title is: It Started with a Journal. References "It Started with a Kiss," which is probably my favorite Asian drama ever. My subtitle is Going up and down the steps of adulthood. References "Hana Yori Dango" (the Japanese version), probably my second favorite Asian Drama ever. Tsukasa, who's constantly getting proverbs wrong and cracking me up, is the owner of that line.

My friends page is called: MacLaren's. References the bar where the characters from "How I Met Your Mother" hang out. And see, you'd meet your friends there? Anyway, the page used to be called Friendly Faces, but I decided it was too boring.

My default userpic: Right now it's . It's Buffy from the S8 comics. She's crossed over to Fray's universe (which is just The Future for Buffy), and Fray's speech patterns and vocabulary completely confuzzles Buffy, which leads her to say a line that made me laugh out loud because she is the Queen of English Butchering: "Boy, the English language is just losing it. I should have treated it better..."

I did manipulate the image though so that the bubble text would be over a recognizable Buffy -- in the real comic it's much further from her face (and it's less recognizably Buffy). Wouldn't have made for a good icon and the text would have been unreadable.
