Why? Why? Why? *sobbing* I am hoping they caught him at a bad moment. I must hold on to this hope. But I find the rings incredibly hot. Is that wrong? In fact, I find his hands v., v. nice. I have a thing about hands.

Yet another article: Cheesiest movie moments. I don't think I agree with their list. My definition of "cheesy" is if it feels cheesy even in the moment. Otherwise, anything you go back to over and over again can get cheesy. I'm going to have to come up with my own list of cheesy moments from movies, I think.
I saw a trailer for "Troy" yesterday. Squee! It was during my accidental viewing of "The Matrix: Revolutions." Accidental, because I wasn't planning on going as I wasn't that eager to see it, but the opportunity presented itself.
Before I get into Revolutions, let me say a word or two about Reloaded. I didn't really like Reloaded, but that might be because I understood so little of it. I was thinking that if I were one of those people who understood it entirely, I might really like it. So I'm still tabling my opinion on it. Let me also say that The Matrix is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I thought it was utterly brilliant. Leaving the theater, I was positively exhilarated. When I heard they were doing follow ups, I was both excited and wary, because ... The Matrix was so fantastic; how could they possibly follow up on it? But you know, free my mind and all.
Well, now I've seen them all, and I think I can say with complete positivity: They should have left it alone. The Matrix was perfect as is; Jade's right when she says that the sequels are more like fanfic for The Matrix put on the big screen. I didn't need the rest of the story. In fact, I liked the murky, yet hopeful, ending of the first movie. You knew that somehow, sometime, Neo was going to save the world.
The weird thing is, he didn't, actually. I mean, the way it ended, he stopped the fight between the machines and Zion. What kind of victory is that? I wanted it to be a full victory, no matter how implausible (as if the rest of it is so plausible). Now humankind is ... sort of free? That's what Neo and all the others gave up their lives for? Yay.
Half the film -- maybe more, I wasn't actually timing it -- was without Neo and Trinity. Considering that for the 2nd and 3rd films they didn't do much but make cow eyes at each other, that was pretty okay. However, I didn't want it to be okay. All the characters I loved from the original film -- Neo, Trinity, Morpheus -- became just ... there. I wanted them to be critical to the backbone of the films, like they were in the first one. Instead, it was all about ... other stuff.
Now don't get me wrong; I actually liked the other stuff. The whole film was about the defense of Zion for me. I enjoyed it v. much; that's what got my blood pumping and where I really felt for the people involved. Still, that's not what The Matrix is supposed to be about. And maybe realistically, it had to be this way. Because you know, the defense of Zion -- important thing. In that case, they SHOULDN'T HAVE MADE THE FOLLOW UPS. Neo's role was completely anticlimactic. After all the get up and go of the first film, I didn't feel like any of them did anything.
I always thought that the weakest part of The Matrix was the love thing (I can't even call it a "story," because they never really built it to earn it, imho, they just relied on typical movie gimmicks), which was incredibly cheesy to me. But okay, fine. One moment of weakness I can forgive, especially as it's the crux of the whole thing for why Neo comes back. But OMG I was so done with them after that. I never felt their love. I got everyone telling me they were in love, but I hate it when they do that. Show me, don't tell me. It's like when Lorne was telling Angel that he loved Cordy. Blech.
Also, the final showdown with Smith? Boring and anticlimactic. They had a lot to live up to (which is really why they should have left well enough alone), and didn't live up to it. They really shot their wad with The Matrix; why couldn't they see that, why???
More things I didn't like: The over-repetition of what a good pilot Naobi was. The first time was fine; the subsquent times, OVERKILL. Naobi's last line. "Wherever you are, Neo -- thank you." Please. Retch.
I missed the Oracle. I forget the actress's name, but she was fab. I liked this one fine, and they did a pretty good job of explaining the change (I'm glad they didn't pretend like there wasn't a change). But part of me thinks that if they were going to do that, they should have chosen a completely different "shell." Eh, minor point though.
Anyway, the thing I did like was Bane, and his kickass impression of Smith. Duuuude. No wonder the guy got the job. Although he was too good. He was so good that it just made everyone else seem like idiots for not knowing who he was. Oh, and I also liked the kid who loaded ammunition and opened the gate. Go kid!
As for Sati and the programmers and the Frenchman and all that crap, I say, wha? At least that's better than Reloaded, in which I said, WHA??????????
But yeah, so I haven't seen last night's AtS yet.
Finally got off my arse and answered the Pansy thread over at
dg_discussion. I had put it off because I knew I'd be verbose about it, and yup, I was.
leiliaxf, see you tonight? I know it's called the Crab Pot, but I'm feeling like I want to have lobster. Mmmmlobster.
The book reading thingy is happening. Just sorting out details. If anyone has a brilliant community name they'd like to share, I'm all ears. Otherwise, there are two that I'm thinking about ... wordstothewise or literary_agenda ... or something.

No, I'm serious. I read it in an article interviewing him.

Date: 2003-11-06 07:34 pm (UTC)And no, not those parts...although I may look once and a while. But his hands are very sexy indeed. Especially with the ring. *heart is a flutter* But the hair needs improvement. And what is up with the bird anyways?!? His face looks really silly there, but I still love him. Even when he looks horrible. How sad is that?

I still think he's pretty - granted it isn't the best picture I've seen. I think it's the hair that might be throwing you off. We're just not used to no hairgel.

Date: 2003-11-07 02:23 am (UTC)Wonder what's up with that? The rings are nice though and reminds me a bit of Galadriel's Nenya ring or maybe it's a reference to LotR, that's why they are wearing rings!

Is it me or is his dark roots showing a bit?
