1. I am a completely terrible fandomer. This year's [livejournal.com profile] dgficexchange is over and the works have been revealed, yet still it's taken me a few weeks to even mention that I actually participated. It was just something I did to get myself in the writing groove again (and to prove to myself that I could actually finish a story). Just a fluffy story that I had fun writing. It's called The Academy.

2. It's snowing. Again. Oh Seattle, how much I'd love you more if not for your crappy, crappy weather. The heaters are on nonstop at my house (and I'm being 'bad' and not restricting it just to my computer room, where I spend most of my time). I'm kind of afraid of my electric bill.

3. For those of you who play Word Twist on Facebook -- doesn't 7 letters seem like SO MUCH MORE than 6?! I know it's only 1 letter more, and yet when the scramble comes up it looks like a SEA of letters.

4. I have become a "victim" of my own "success." I send my food pictures to my mom, uncle, and cousin (they requested it because they're all foodies too), and my cousin is now like, omg you HAVE to come over and cook for us! They just moved into a new house, and I love cooking, but I've never really cooked for OTHER PEOPLE before. I don't know if the food I cook is actually good enough to be consumed by others (like, it's edible, but will it actually wow them?). So now I'm stressing about that, because her husband is a vegetarian (a pescetarian, to be more precise), and some of the best things I've made involve meat. Plus they're healthy eaters in general. Really if it were just my cousin I wouldn't think twice about it, but cooking for them both plus their little girls is like ... *pulls hair*.

5. I have found/purchased Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking, vols 1 & 2. It's supposed to be a seminal cooking book (and I ordered Julie and Julia from PBS, so I'm interested in the source material). Vol 1 was pretty difficult to find; it took me a few trips before I found it on the shelves at HPB. There are plenty of Vol 2s though.

But here's a good story -- I went to the Lynnwood HPB and found two Vol 2s. I couldn't find the price on one of them, but it looked like a newer/cleaner copy, so I took both up to the counter and said that I wanted the cleaner copy, but couldn't find a price on it, so here was the other one that did have a price on it. So the guy looks, and he finds the price on the better copy -- $20. The other copy is $7.98. So of course with that price difference I go with the cheaper one, even if it's not as new/nice. But then he keeps flipping through it and we notice -- it's been autographed. By Julia Child, Simone Beck (the other author), and Paul Child (who drew the illustrations). Of course, it's "to Barbara" -- but still! And it's a first edition! So I got the autographed first edition for $7.98. He was like, wow, you should try to sell it online. And I'm like, nah I think I'll keep it!

6. Food wise, I've been busy. Here are some highlights from the last couple of weeks...

- Hodge Podge Salad
- Seared Chilean Sea Bass and Scallops
- Roasted Shrimp and Broccoli
- Meyer Lemon Sablés
- Creamy Scallop Soup
- Copycat attempt at Old Spaghetti Factory's Browned Butter & Mizithra Cheese + Meat Sauce Spaghetti

7. I've been watching Heroes S2.

Random commentary:

- How fabulous is Kristen Bell? So totally fabulous. She looks like an evil vampy version of herself; it's awesome. Hayden Panettiere, who is very cute and pretty, and who I do love, still doesn't hold a candle to KB.

- Since I knew about S2's weaknesses far in advance of actually watching the season, I'm actually enjoying it. I knew Hiro was going to be off in ye olden times in Japan. I knew the storyline was going to be kind of disjointed. I knew who the cool new stars were, etc. Knowing all that before diving in really kept me from feeling any 'disappointment' wrt how the season went.

- I'm meh about most of the new people. Caitlin is OK, but isn't super interesting. I really, really cannot stand Maya or her brother, or their stupid powers. I mean, how lame is that XF ripoff? Plus of course they have to do with Sylar, who I find annoying and unattractive. Plus Maya herself is just so freaking gullible. Her brother just died and she's kissing Sylar. Gross. I like the new girl who has muscle memory or whatever though.

- DAVID ANDERS OMG. He's fabulous, just like Kristen. Where would this season be without them?! He makes a great (and hot) Ultimate Baddie. Like Sark, only with regenerative powers! Though it is a little contrived that they're now saying HE was the mastermind behind it all, instead of Linderman. Once he's out of the picture, are they going to introduce another baddie who was the mastermind behind "Adam"? Puh-leaze.

- How cute is the little family of Mohinder/Matt/Molly?? The MMMs!

- Nikki/Jessica was always lame, but has gotten even lamer this season. Seriously, her 'superpower' is that she has MPD? They've never once confirmed that her true superpower is that she has MPD and they all seem to have super strength. We've never actually seen Nikki harness any of that for herself, though.

8. I'm still loving Two for the Road. There are a number of recipes they share (2 after every chapter) that I'm intrigued by and will make soon. The problem is that they're not exactly health foods. Still, if I don't have it every day it's okay right? Right! A few of the recipes that I want to make: Mama Lo's Broccoli Casserole, Cola Cake with Broiled Peanut Butter Frosting, and Chicken Fried Steak

Glad you are enjoying season 2. I liked it, even if it didn't shine as brightly as the first one. Hopefully you'll be able to get to season three soon, it is picking up nicely. In the latter part anyway. I agreed with almost every point you made, except for Nikki/Jessica. Ok, well, disagreed only on one part- Nikki did in fact harness the power for herself at the end of season 1 in Kirby Plaza.

Hmm yes, this is true, she did harness it in that last ep I suppose. I guess the S1 finale was so underwhelming (and frankly, her role in it so minor) that I kind of put that out of my head. I stand corrected!

I've pimped your food blog on my LJ. You make it all sound so good, even the stuff I won't eat!

And LOL @ Word Twist. Today one came up and I was like, "is that only seven??" because it looked like a million jumbled letters.

Thank God it's not just me re: the 7 letters. Seriously, it looks like 10 letters, at least.

Awww thanks for pimping my food blog dude. <3
