Why do they even bother putting "door close" buttons in elevators? THEY NEVER WORK. They're only there to frustrate people. Because when you TRY to use them, pressing or pressing and holding doesn't actually close the doors. The elevators are always programmed to wait a certain amount of time before closing, and they won't close a second sooner.

Remember those Meyer lemons I mentioned a post or two ago? I ended up making these cookies from the zest, and this lemon curd from the juice (think pie or tart filling).

I tried my first recipe from Chef, Interrupted. It was ... less than I might have hoped for. I'm not giving up on the book, I love Melissa Clark, but will probably aim for something a bit 'safer' next time. This one was just easiest at the time. (In fact I just found this, another one of her recipes that someone else tried, which sounds divine.)

I finally got a new iPod to replace my ailing one. My old iPod was 3rd generation, I think, 20-30gb, no color. I held onto it for a long, long time because if it was still working, I didn't want to spend the money to replace it. Right before my winter vacation and all during, it started to show signs of dying -- namely it would stop and freeze in the middle of songs, or even while scrolling to a song, I had to constantly restart it, etc. Basically it became unusable.

I barely even filled that capacity (though granted I was careful about what/how many songs I added, knowing its limit). And now I have a 120gb one, all pretty in color and everything. If I couldn't fill 20-30gb, how am I going to fill 120gb? Haha. Though I suppose I could put movies on the new one, since it's all fancy like that.

Using iDump, which is a godsend, I managed to get all the music off the old one (I kept expecting it to give out, but it held on, even though it got SUPER HOT) and fairly painlessly upload it all to the new iPod (I was dreading having to re-rip/download all my music). Almost immediately afterward, an error popped up re: the old iPod asking me that there were problems with it and if I wanted to fix it. I said yes, and it supposedly fixed it, though at the expense of ALL the music on it.

I can only think of the horror that might have been had that happened before I got all my music off. What a close call. *wipes brow* Anyway, so it's possible that the old iPod is working just fine now, I just have to reload music onto it. This happened late last night so I haven't had a chance to test it yet. I almost hope it's broken, so I can justify having bought the new one. Sigh.

I'm so freaking spoiled. Well, or maybe I'm not spoiled, I'm deprived, and that's why stuff like this makes me feel spoiled. I had a 17-inch monitor at work, which I got about 8 years ago, and at the time it was totally cutting edge. Well, now it's pretty crappy in comparison to the monitors out there now, so I emailed our team's admin to see if I could get an upgrade. Given the economic climate and the budget tightening, I was expecting to be told no (I should have asked for one last year!). But an hour after I sent the email, she came into my office lugging a 22-inch Widescreen Samsung SyncMaster 220WM, all apologetic because she couldn't get me a 27-inch one due to budget constraints. Pffft, like I care? The new one is already eons beyond what I was using. It makes me giddy just to look at it. (Though it's still not as big as the 24-inch widescreen, also by Samsung, that I have at home. :D)

You know who I'm really enjoying, music wise? Jem. I don't know anything about her other than the two songs I've heard, but her sound is very unique and I like her voice. Plus the songs are good.

I have a couple of Jem (makes me think about the cartoon)songs. Falling For You is my favorite.

Haha, totally makes me think of the cartoon also. I loved that show.

I really like Jem's first album. She has a new one out that came out sometime last year that I haven't picked up yet, but I have high ... okay, decent hopes for it.

I swear I had NEVER heard of Meyer lemons before you mentioned them last week. Then, sure enough, I popped into Safeway the other day, and there they were, in little bags: Meyer lemons.

Good to know re: her first album, I'll definitely be checking it out.

The two songs I've heard and liked are from her second album, so unless it's significantly different from her first, I think I'll like both albums (and you might too). The first song I ever heard was "It's Amazing," from the S&tC soundtrack. The second song was "Keep on Walking," which I actually got at Starbucks! You know how the stores have a weekly song they give out free at the iTunes store (I don't know what the program is called, I'm sure you can enlighten me)? Well that was the one when I went in that week, and since I had liked "It's Amazing," I picked it up.

That is so the way of things re: the Meyer lemons. Though I do think that it's only been recently that they've dubbed the average consumer as being savvy enough to want to purchase them, so now they're more broadly available.

I actually have no idea what the name of that iTunes program is. Maybe just "Free iTunes Song of the Week From Starbucks"? Ha.
