14 delicious red gold nectarines are mine. Yessss! Now I just have to hope they last a week, because there's no way I'm eating that many by myself in a shorter amount of time. Spent the morning with my cousin and her two kids (ages 3 and 1) -- seriously, I'm exhausted. I really admire parents. They have patience and energy that I just don't have. And working parents on top of that -- total props.

We went to a bakery before hitting the farmer's market and got these heavenly chocolate croissants. I forget the name of the bakery. Anyway, I've known and loved chocolate croissants before, but none of them have ever had this same kind of texture, where it's a *true* flaky and buttery croissant, but with a layer of chocolate baked into the middle. (Previously they've been croissant-like, but wasn't as soft or flaky or yummy.)

My icon is therefore Amanda with a pastry, though I certainly wasn't making that face when I was eating mine. :)) This is also my opportunity to rave about Ugly Betty and how marvelous Becki Newton is. <3 her and the show, though I've only seen S1 and a tiny part of S2.

Had the lovely [livejournal.com profile] corianderstem over for dinner last night. The Zantac worked!! I totally had a glass of wine without turning red, getting heart palpitations, or a headache! Very exciting. Tell all your Asian friends!! The chili (recipe of which I actually got from my dinner guest) was really good, but now I'm inspired to experiment on it some more. Last night I added ground cumin, half a bottle of Corona, and fresh garlic. Next time I'm going to try adding a seeded jalapeno to give it some kick, some tomatoes, and coffee!

Hey [livejournal.com profile] noelleleithe, I totally went back to the market and got some honeycrisp apples. Either I was on crack the day I first saw them, or they changed their prices over the weekend, but this time they were $3.99/lb. >< Still, I got a few of them and they do have a great texture. They're not quite as sweet as Fuji apples, but then maybe that's just the selection they had (or the one I had in particular). I like them!

Now I've got a whole chicken in the oven, because they were on sale and I've been craving rotisserie chicken. And obviously baking a chicken is not rotisserie, but for my craving it's close enough.

So what did you think of the Lambrusco, anyway? After your initial shock you were able to drink it? *g*

I stopped at QFC on the way home, and honeycrisp apples were $1.99 a pound. For what it's worth!

.... maybe they were $2.99. Man. I was so sure they were $1.99 when I posted the reply, and now I totally don't know. Ha!

One thing that might've made a difference was that the ones at FM were organic. But at the farmer's market today the organic ones were only $2/lb. So FM was just overpriced.

As for the Lambrusco, I liked it, especially initially. But as with any alcohol, whenever I drink more than a few sips, it starts to taste more alcoholic and therefore not as appealing to me. So even though I wasn't having all the negative effects, the general alcoholic taste still bothered me -- which is good to know. I kind of had always thought that if I didn't have all the other stuff, alcohol wouldn't bother me, but that wasn't the case. Still, the Lambrusco was definitely sweeter and much better than other wines I've had.

Yay for honeycrisps! :)

(Granny Smiths are my favorite year-round apples -- thus the icon -- but I swear I eat my weight in honeycrisps during the fall. Yummmmmmm.)
