I am now only missing 7 license plates in the license plate game. In the last several days I've gotten Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, and Connecticut. Of the 7 I'm missing, I've seen Kansas, Delaware, and Alabama, and didn't get any pics of them. :( Which will be the last state?!

A very quiet 32nd bday yesterday, which was nice. The more bdays that come, the less attention I want, it's weird. Had lunch with my mom at a Chinese bakery/cafe, because you're supposed to eat noodles to ensure a long life or something (so the superstition goes), then met my cousin for dinner at Spring Hill, where I had a potato and lamb's tongue salad (excellent), hangar steak (excellent, but prepared a bit too rare even for me), and pumpkin pudding. We already had my birthday cake last week, which was a good thing since I was completely stuffed and wouldn't have been able to eat another bite. I like chocolate, but I'm not its biggest fan -- if given the choice I'd almost always choose some kind of vanilla or fruit option instead -- but this chocolate cake from Bakery Nouveau is just out of this world. Possibly the best cake ever.

Talis's regimen for his ear infection has been going well. He hates the actual ear cleaning/ointment treatments, which have to be done twice a day, but it's slightly easier now that I muzzle him during the procedure. He still jumps up and shakes, but at least he doesn't nip at me. As for the medication, I had one really bad experience where he fought with me tooth and nail and only ended up eating like half a capsule, but I've now found the perfect vehicle for the pills -- the macaroni from the chicken noodle soup I made. They're extra big and swollen due to being cooked in the broth too long, and the little openings are perfect for hiding a pill inside, even the bigger ones, so now the medication part is cake.

My diet isn't going so hot, as you can imagine, with visitors and eating out a lot. >< Oh well. I'm getting the P90X workout vids and the plan is that S. and I are going to work out together. Yeah. I'm not really sure if that's going to work the way we envision, but at least we're attempting it? It will be much easier for him so we'll have to see how much I can endure. Plus I need to get on getting my treadmill repaired.

Finally, I've fired my gardener. Well, I had my mom do it, since his English is limited, she's fluent in his native language, and she's good at dealing with people. He was a nice guy and all, and my lawn looks OK, but given how much I'm (or I was) paying him, the frequency of his visits were not acceptable. We originally agreed that he would come every 2-3 weeks, but it's more like 4-5, and especially this last time, I think it's been even longer since he's been here. He charged about $1k for the year. A few months ago I asked some gardeners who were working on my neighbor's yard what they would charge to work on my house, and they said $30 every 2 weeks. That's less than what I was paying AND they would come more often. So yeah. Long overdue action on my part.
