I've been following people's recommendations, and I'm so glad I have! Here's what I've tried that I must give thumbs up to:

1) [livejournal.com profile] _lore got me intrigued to try Snowcake soap from LUSH. I'm not usually a fan of vanilla or almond scents, but maybe that's because I usually find them too cloying. This one is really subtle, and has this underlayer of spiciness ... like nutmeg ... that I really love. I find myself making excuses to take a shower just so I can use it. <g> But I don't know what lore's talking about when she says it's huge; it's teeny tiny, especially for the price. O.o

2) A couple of weeks back, [livejournal.com profile] lissannej was talking about the Cirque du Freak series. It sounded like something I might be interested in, but couldn't be sure until I'd tried it myself. I've now read the first three books and am on the fourth. :D I like the premise a lot, though it's nowhere near HP-caliber in terms of writing. It's a quick read, and those who enjoy the macabre won't be disappointed.

3) This one's not exactly new, but since I'm still in the midst of it, it must be mentioned. [livejournal.com profile] jade_okelani got me to try watching Gilmore Girls, which I was skeptical about. I'm really enjoying the show, though it's nothing but brain candy. In a good way. <3 I'm now in the midst of S4, which I have to say is so far kinda dull. Hopefully it'll pick up. My fave char I think is Sookie. <g>

4) I know [livejournal.com profile] romanticalgirl wants this bullet to be King Arthur. <g> Sorry dude, I still haven't watched it! I have to wait for Jade! But we all know she got me hooked on Veronica Mars and House, so there ya go.

That's all for now. Oh, I also read that seemingly guilty-pleasure book of Meg Cabot's, the latest teen one -- Avalon High? With all the King Arthur stuff? Yeah, can't recommend it. I had to force myself to finish it, and at the end I was like, blah. :(

[livejournal.com profile] seldon, when are you going to have reliable Internet access again?? We miss WoWing with you! Itsey and Bitsey need to hang with Daneel! Thraina's too busy trying to discover the identity of her real, red-headed father.

Yay!

Oooh, you're reading the Darren Shan series! (It's not called the CDF series here). I'll be interested to hear what you make of it all when you're done with all 12. I agree they're an easier read than HP, but in terms of plot twists and whatnot they're just as good. It certainly left me reeling more than once! And the ending is clever, clever, clever. DS is also a lot sadder than HP, I think.

I wish it weren't called the CDF series here, either, as from what I can tell the importance of the Cirque dwindles from the third book on. I'll have to table my thoughts on plot twists, etc., until I'm done w/ the series, since I saw the one in book 3 coming a mile away. ;) Also, the HP series has better (imho) character development, and the world is more believable (even in its fantastic-ness). Sometimes I feel like some of the vampire/vampaneze stuff in the DS/CDF series is all a lot of baloney. I guess, for me personally, I'm able to suspend my disbelief a lot more easily w/ HP. :D

Oh dear, now I can't wait to get to the end. Problem is that I've only been able to find up to book 5 in paperback, and I don't really feel like spending a lot of $$ to buy the other 7 books in hardback. O.o The one thing I will give DS/CDF over HP is, as you mention, the 'sadness' factor -- Darren is unafraid to 'go there,' and bad things happen that one would not necessarily expect from a young adult novel (such as that one boy's death ... can't remember his name but he loved pickled onions :D).
