I hate thinking of subject lines.

I should never read other people's journals after reading the latest HP book. At worst, they seriously piss me off. At best, they make me scratch my head and go, "HUH????" at some of the conclusions they draw. When it comes to HP, there are only two things I am absolutely, positively sure of; two things that I am so certain about that I would agree to do just about anything if they don't actually happen. They are...
1) Ron/Hermione. This one has been obvious since GoF. It's really amazing to me that anyone didn't see it or thought it might be something else. The only people I'm prepared to cut a bit of slack for this are loyal H/Hr shippers, because I can totally see how desire for wanting your ship to come true might supercede anything else -- or hope the signs mean something other than what they seem to point to. But after HBP, I don't think there's any more doubt.
2) Snape is not evil. I cannot believe anyone would entertain this seriously. I can't believe that I even have to say it; it seems so OBVIOUS. Any careful reader -- or not so careful reader -- should be able to see this. Degree in English Lit aside, there are just certain 'clues' (I don't even like calling them that, because I don't think it's like a mystery to be solved; you just have to read between the lines) that anyone should be able to see. I could go on for pages and pages as to why Snape is on the right side and why anyone who thinks otherwise is a moron who demonstrates a total lack of reading ability, but I'll spare you. Unless someone asks, and then I'll throw down.
So I saw March of the Penguins and The Island.
March was interesting and cute. I don't think it was quite as amazing as I had expected; it was basically like watching a documentary about penguins that you could see on the Discovery channel. Very, very cool and interesting, but I'm not sure why it was a feature film.
The Island was guilty pleasure fun. I had just read how much it bombed at the box office, but Jade said it was GP, so I wanted to check it out. And indeed, I don't know why it did that badly. It was certainly no worse than any other movie, and in fact had great stars, great visuals, and a cool (if not original) plotline. There are soooo many little things that I could nitpick about it, but it's not even worth it for a movie like this. You go to be entertained, and it meets those expectations. The one thing I will say is that it actually could have been a great movie -- if they hadn't sacrificed the story so that Michael Bay could get in more and more and more action shots. (After a time, you just start to become immune to them, and find them ever so slightly ridiculous. It wasn't quite the same disappointment as Paycheck though; you at least walked away from this one not feeling like you wanted your life and money back.) But Scarlett and Ewan were great, Sean Bean was of course gorgeous and fabulous, and Steve Buscemi was his usual entertaining self. If only they'd gotten the guys who wrote PotC to write this one, it might have been a great story and a great action flick; as it is, it's just a bit of both.
O.o -- thinking of someone like that makes me so sad.
And to end this post on a joyful note:
* My undead priest is 2 lvls away from her mount. Oh, the HAPPY JOY. I can't wait. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to wait at least 24 hours before I can even get her more XP, as Kilrogg is one of the servers they're taking down for extended maintenance (though it certainly needs it). They ought to take Silvermoon down to do the same also, if my experience with it on Sunday was anything to go by -- I kept getting booted, and almost every time there was some rollback so that I had to do something over. Incredibly frustrating. I can't believe so few people I know on LJ play WoW. I mean, WoW has 3.5 million subscribers worldwide ... you'd think I'd meet a few more of them.

seldon rocks, because he got someone to translate the end of HG for me! So now I don't have to live in suspense any longer. Well, he rocks in many other ways also, but this is just one more thing to add to the list.

ropo and
jade_okelani rock, because they're coming here to help me move! And then my mom is going to come while I'm jaunting around the east coast to house sit (and possibly bring my dog back). Oh, hallelujah that I shant be alone with the terrible moving!

Date: 2005-07-27 12:50 am (UTC)Anyway, I just wanted to check with you if this is okay--After I made a Sarkney fic rec list, I wanted to compile a list of D/G fic recs, mainly so everything's a click away for me. I wanted to link to a few of your fics. This list will be an LJ post at my journal, and I've also included a link to the page where all your HP fic is listed. Let me know if this is cool?

Date: 2005-07-27 05:20 am (UTC)Now The Island TOTAL guuilty pleasure!!..I had a blast watching it and have to admit I got the giggles when Scarlett first came onscreen, all I could think of was me standing in front of her with just my towel on (I still wanna kill John for that one). It was a bit of a homage to the great 70s sci-fi film Logan's Run though, very similiar in a lot of areas that it almost felt like remake. But all in all ..it was great fun!

(and I agree with you, it's painfully obvious Snape is not evil. The most obvious reason is that, well, JKR went to great lengths to make it look like he's evil.)
