busy like a bee
Jul. 20th, 2004 06:06 pmIn the past three days, I have primarily done five things:
1) Finished writing my annual performance review. There are no words for how much I loathe the practice of having to review my own performance. It's the time of year I dread the most. How to highlight all your accomplishments without seeming pompous? How to talk about things that could have gone better without sounding incompetent? How to talk about my career development, when I haven't got a clue? It's like having to apply for college every year, without the convenience of solid test scores to speak partially for me. Fingers now crossed for a nice raise + bonus this year.
2) Finished writing IYOK6. All right, so this wasn't accomplished just by my onesy, but since the damn thing is 46 pages long, I figure Jade and I each wrote a normal-sized chapter. We still have to tighten it up a bit and go through one more round of beta, and then it shall be posted to Magical Mayhem as an exclusive for a week.
3) Purchased a couple of Betsey Johnson dresses. (They don't cost quite as much on eBay.) They're so girly. I love. Wanna see pictures? Here's one. Here's the other. Also got this pretty Nicole Miller dress -- original retail price was $365. Jesus God.
4) Played Beyond Good and Evil on my Xbox. Seriously, you can't get a better video game for $20 (or less if you buy online).
BE&G is so much fun. I'm only about halfway through it (I think), but I don't mind because when a game's really good, you kind of don't want it to end. Not only do you have a primary mission (which is really awesome and spy-like), but you also get to play games within the game, like races and such. I love racing games (I want an NES just for Mario Kart, which is the best racing game EVER <g>).
Anyway -- so after awhile, I was forced to find a walkthrough on the Web, because I was completely stuck and had no clue what I was supposed to do next. The problem with walkthroughs is that once you've found one, it's impossible to stay away. Now, if I can't figure something out after multiple attempts, I'll just consult the walkthrough. And then when I do do something on my own (in a half assed, less efficient way, yes, but it's v. satisfying), I consult it to make sure I haven't missed anything. Walkthroughs are totally like Krispy Kreme donuts -- impossible to resist when they're there, but after you've indulged, you feel guilty. But I like the one I found, because it usually doesn't give you every single detail, but clues you in just enough that it points you in the right direction.
I love Double H -- was glad when he showed up. Pey'j kind of annoyed me.
I'm not a huge gamer so haven't played that many games, but I say this one's a keeper.
5) Listened to the awesomely fun mixed CD I made. It has some really good music on there (like Rebekah Del Rio's "Llorando" from Mulholland Drive and Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved"), but there are three -- count them, THREE -- Britney Spears songs. :"> I believe they're all from her new album. I can't help it, they're so good!
And just randomly...
6) Oh, and I didn't do this in the last three days, but rather, last week -- watched The Station Agent and really enjoyed it. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a quietly feel-good film. (Has moments of clunkiness, but I loved all the characters -- especially JOe.)
7) To Confidently Fuck
Draco Malfoy and Ginny Weasley were celebrating a lovely Valentine's Day together. Draco Malfoy had cooked a pale dinner and they ate in the air by candlelight.
"My darling," Ginny Weasley said, stroking Draco Malfoy's leg, "I have something for you." She gave a box to Draco Malfoy. "It is but a creamy token of my bright love."
Draco Malfoy opened the box. Inside was a pink tiara! He gazed at it apologetically. Then he gazed at Ginny Weasley apologetically. "It's smooth," Draco Malfoy said. "Come here and let me fuck you."
Just then, an engorged crone sprang out of hiding and cackled like a broom without twigs or wood or anything like a broom at all. "Your happiness will not last!" she said in a blinding voice and dropped a piece of paper onto the dinner table.
Ginny Weasley read it. "It's a page from a diary. It says...it says that you're my brother."
They stared at each other softly as the crone cackled some more. Draco Malfoy's thigh began to tremble. Then Ginny Weasley shrugged, pulled out a rock, and hit the crone on her breast. She fell over dead.
"Problem solved!" Draco Malfoy said and kissed Ginny Weasley soothingly. "This is a blond Valentine's Day!"
They throatily burned the diary page in the candle and never told another soul.
And then they fucked each other all night long.
** Dude, how can I ever hope to top this? D/G, incest, sex, intrigue ... all in 10 paragraphs. That roxors. Generated here.

Date: 2004-07-21 01:20 am (UTC)Craftily Tripping
Ginny tripped along slyly. She was on her way to meet her lover, Draco, for Valentine's Day. She smiled to see a parrot hopping along, carrying a banana in its mouth.
Ginny was almost under the covers when she came across a roaring cake, lying alone on a pickled plate. "That must be a treat from my blank bear," she said to herself, and tripped over to it. The cake looked hard, so she ate it.
It gave her the most grey-eyed tingling sensation in her tongue. "How unusual!" she said and continued tripping to see Draco.
When Draco came out to meet her, he took one look and fell over.
"What is it?" Ginny cried blankly.
"Your knee! And your pancreas!" Draco said. "They're bloated! Can't you feel it?"
Ginny felt her knee and her pancreas. They were indeed quite bloated. "Oh, no!" Ginny said. "I'm a man!" She, or rather, he started to cry. "It must have been that roaring cake you left for me. Did you know what it would do?"
"I didn't leave you any cake," Draco said. "I got you a balogna. It must have been that frosted man who lives nearby. He acts a little crazily, ever since he mashed a burrito."
"But how can you ever love me, now that I'm a man?" Ginny sobbed.
"Well, I never knew how to tell you this," Draco said haughtily, "but I actually prefer men. And I think your knee is really yellow like that."
"Really?" Ginny dried his tears. Ginny kissed Draco and it was an entirely stuffy sensation, like a bowling ball with no holes, just an inscription that says DRACO WILL BOWL YOU OVER.
They spent the night having entirely stuffy sex, until the cake wore off suddenly.
Everything was rather awkward after that.

Date: 2004-07-21 08:04 am (UTC)There are no words for how funny/wrong that whole thing was, but that might have been my favorite part. Ginny is a man and Draco loves her for who she is anyway? What more could a D/G-er ask.

But I'm still jealous.

Date: 2004-07-21 07:57 am (UTC)Anyway, I finally have pics of my KS bags, just need some time to get them uploaded.
I love both of the BJ dresses (of course), though I admit I'm partial to the burnt rose one. :D

Date: 2004-07-21 10:26 am (UTC)You'll have to check them out. Unlike KS bags (*sigh* still so very cute!), Coach bags could survive a nuclear war.

P.S. I CANNOT WAIT to see your pics!!!

Date: 2004-07-21 01:44 am (UTC)2. YAY for more IYOK! Cannot wait to read.
3. The dresses are gorgeous. The sort of thing I'd wear if I didn't need one for each leg ;)
as for # 7 -- better than anything I could ever write! *cackles*

Date: 2004-07-21 08:03 am (UTC)We'll see how the dresses fit/look. They look good on the mannequins, of course, and in pictures. This buying-dresses-over-the-Internet thing may be a one-time experience. <g>
And dude, the auto-drabble is better than anything anyone could write, ever. :))

Date: 2004-07-21 08:10 am (UTC)*falls over* I saw that. Grabbing his twing and berries indeed. That and the L/N one Kiri generated had me in stitches.

Date: 2004-07-21 08:09 am (UTC)Are you a not-so-closet Britney fan??? I don't think I knew this about you. Previously it might have caused me to shun you, but now that would make me a hypocrite.

Have I ever told you that every time I try to fly, I fall without my wings? And then I feel small.

I feel my reaction to those lyrics or whatever they may be is best summed up by the t-shirt I gave you.

Date: 2004-07-22 12:29 am (UTC)I share this sentiment, especially since a considerable part of my job involves correcting other people's screw-ups, either because they messed up or because they underestimated the time it would take them to do whatever they wanted to do. So not only do I risk sounding pompous, I also risk making somebody else look incompetent. Blah.
What makes it worse is that we share our review with our co-workers! At our annual planning meeting we write our reviews and then we have to share three or four successes and mistakes with everybody else. And our review is not even considered for rise or bonus evaluation, either... it is supposed to be an exercise in "team building" that is really an exercise in embarrassment.
Re: Beyond Good & Evil. Almost everybody I know online swears by this game. Maybe it's time I give it a spin to see why everybody is raving about it. I finally have the time to, after all...
About the dresses... I like the black one! #2 is very, very girly. Funny, I didn't picture you in "girly" dresses... You'll have to post pictures ;)
And congrats in writing your first incest fic. Perv. No wonder you'll ship our spouses.

Date: 2004-07-22 12:44 am (UTC)Aiiieeeeeee!! That is terrible! Fine, you win, that is even more loathesome. Especially if, as you say, your reviews are a reflection of what you do, which is do things right that other people do wrong. :)) Ours is supposed to be an evaluation that determines raises/bonuses, but everyone knows those are pre-determined by your managers, etc.

Oooh, you'll have to let me know how you enjoy it if you play it. What platform would you use? Do you have a PS2, or would you play it on your PC?
Yay that you guys like the black one! Now I'm glad I got it, for I was having second thoughts.
It wasn't my first incest fic; I've actually written Ron/Ginny before. So you see, I've been a perv for a really long time. :D

Date: 2004-07-22 11:15 pm (UTC)I have a PS2, but it's likely that I'll play it in my Gamecube. A co-worker of mine is kinda of a GC zealot and I think he has this game. Maybe I can borrow it from him. If not, I'll check if I can find it in a discount bin in a trip to McAllen.
So you see, I've been a perv for a really long time. :D
That explains sooooo much...
