TMI, maybe

Very happy birthday wishes to
rainpuddle13! May the day (and the rest of the year) be filled with hugs, joy, and lots of D/G.
6:30am
Alarm goes off. Wake up.
7:30am
T. calls. Wake up again. Confirm w/ him that I am indeed going to the training.
8:16am
Attempting not to fall asleep on road. Why didn't K. and I carpool? Stupid.
8:36am
Get to Grand Hyatt. Too lazy to find self parking. Will valet. Company will pay for it anyway.
9:14am
OMG so bored. Must eat croissant to stay awake. And apple danish. And two cups of lemon tea. And watermelon hard candy. Oh thank God they have provided pitchers of water all along the tables. Act of pouring will help me stay awake.
10:42am
Hmm, kind of interesting. Had to get flashcards with things written on them and you only kept the ones that you thought were most "you." Types of people broken down into four color categories: red, blue, green, yellow. I appear to be a Green. (At least at work ... I think I am more of a Red in all other areas of life.)
Red: competitive, demanding, determined, strong-willed, purposeful, driver
Yellow: sociable, dynamic, demonstrative, enthusiastic, persuasive, expressive
Green: caring, encouraging, sharing, patient, relaxed, amiable
Blue: cautious, precise, deliberate, questioning, formal, analytical
11:13am
Had to go around with chart taped to back and get colleagues to put an "x" next to the color they see you as. Have gotten mostly greens, with a few blues and yellows. And one giant red X.
What I don't understand is that D. is a green, and P. is a red. Maybe I don't get along with people of my same color.
Also had to get in lines, taking steps left or right depending on answers to questions ... in the end, turned out I was more introverted. Many people seemed surprised by this.
Don't these work people know that they don't know me at all? At work I may be a extroverted Green, but really I know I am an introverted Red.
11:17am
Ooh, cool quote. "We are called to the place where our deep joy meets the world's deep hunger." - F. Buechner
11:19pm
Can't wait for personalized report. Two weeks ago we had to go through and answer 25 questions, and supposedly they will tell us all out ourselves/our work styles just from that. I wonder if there are people who think they're Greens are actually Reds.
11:23am
Want TP's fleece jumper. Damn him for having such a warm-looking jumper. I waaaannnstttssss itttttt.
11:31am
When is lunch?
1:30pm
Am going to barf. Too full. Oh god.
1:32pm
It was good though. I'm glad I didn't get the chicken & prawns entree, because guess what the appetizer was? Yep, individual portions of shrimp & crab cocktail (3 big prawns, 3 dungeness crab legs). Then bread and salad. Then filet mignon (served rare) and salmon. Veggies were mashed potato and asparagus. Afterward, had coffee. Am so incredibly full, but where was dessert?
Everyone is in a good mood today. Great lunch conversation. Who knew there were so many nice/interesting people on my team?
1:45pm
OMG. Have gotten personalized evaluation report. It says I am not a Green, but a Red/Blue. P. and I are v. similar. So I suppose that explains why we get along, after all.
Reading the evaluation (2 pages) of myself is kind of freaky. It is really accurate. Everyone around me is stunned. This is kinda like getting our horoscopes. :)) Though even scarier because of how in depth it goes. I will laugh if they just get our birthdays and spit this stuff out using astrology.
1:53pm
This does sound more like me than Green stuff, though.
"Sarea is conceptual, tenacious and realistic. As she likes conversation to be purposeful, and may argue practicalities to the point of hair-splitting, she tends to be convinced only by reason."
"She may need assistance in tapping into her creativity and to bring projects to completion. She expects authority to establish clear guidelines, so that she knows exactly what is expected and can relate to clearly designated lines of responsibility. She is convinced that a successful life needs to be tough and that satisfaction must be earned and re-earned. She sometimes feels less than adequate when she thinks of the effort of living up to her own high standards of perfection."
"She prefers to be left to work quietly on her own, which is when she achieves her best work. Perhaps exhibiting the traits of the most independent of all the Insight types, she prefers to do things her way."
"With her original mind, fine insight and vision, Sarea is seen as an independent and natural thinker. She tends to withdraw when stressed. Sarea needs minimal supervision and will work hard in a system that gives her independence. She may become evasive or reactive if overwhelmed by the constraints and demands of others. She does not take criticism personally, and is often surprised to discover that others may be hurt or offended by the constructive criticism she can offer. If her work constantly requires her to be warm and outgoing with others, she finds this draining after a while and may need to take some private time out before regrouping."
"Sarea will tend to talk openly only about subjects she knows well and which allow her to share her great breadth of information. She prefers to remain emotionally free of the other person's point of view."
"In applying unrealistically high standards to herself, she may expect too much from herself and others."
2:26pm
OMG, look at all these "Do"s and "Don't"s when communicating w/ me. So accurate. And guess who broke all these rules? D. No wonder we didn't get along ... because I've seen his list and I broke all his rules, too! Freaky. We were totally incompatible. If only we had these reports two years ago, before we started making each other miserable.
Strategies for communicating with Sarea:
- Approach her in a structured, logical way.
- Remember to thank her for her time.
- Give her all the facts.
- Allow time for her to think of the consequences.
- Act in an adult and mature way.
- Be precise and detailed.
- Be consistent.
- Be clear about expectations and timescales.
- Use written communications whenever appropriate.
- Keep personal comments to yourself.
When communicating with Sarea, DO NOT:
- Be inefficient or irrational.
- Be indecisive, unclear or "woolly."
- Criticise her ideas or take issues with them.
- Digress or wander off at a tangent.
- Be too light hearted or superficial.
- Withhold vital information.
- Procrastinate, prevaricate, or interrupt her.
- Tell her what to do or how to do it.
- Say one thing and do another. (<--- HYPOCRISY, YES!!! Such a no-no.)
- Confuse the conversation with irrelevant details.
- Invade her privacy.
- Interrupt her while she is in control.
LOLOL I just have to laugh at some of these and also go :">, because they are so true. Can't I just turn this report in as my annual review?
2:44pm
OMG, P.'s report is even more accurate than mine. They have him down to a T.
I think we are both tickled that we are the only Red/Blues in this joint. We understand each other, man.
3:36pm
Finally, dessert!! Champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries. I have eaten four already.
3:55pm
Fuck, some kind of work emergency, have to bail. End up driving into work and working for 3 hours. Hate this.
When I got home, I found S&tC S6, pt 1 waiting for me! W00t! Have now made Smith/Samantha tape, and am happy. :D
Also watched Secret Window. Johnny Depp was great, but the movie? WTF, is all I have to say. And also, whatever. The Hunt for Red October used to be one of my favorite movies, but I recently saw it again, and it dragged so much! I must have seen it a dozen times as a teenager. Sad that my intellect used to make me love a film like that, and now I've just grown stupid.
