You're not wrong about the love interest drama...it gets more crazy as the series develops. (I don't know if you'd consider this a spoiler, but you're not wrong about the fanfic thing either. =\ ) A lot of what I enjoyed about the books, which was the crime-solving and vampire hunting and such, gets left by the wayside in favour of who's doing whom in later volumes. My biggest complaint is that a lot of stuff I would consider interesting happens "off-screen". So at the end of one book, she's off to do whatever, and at the start of the next book, the whatever is all done and you get the slightly-more-improved Anita without seeing what got her there. This happens all through the series, and it doesn't get any less annoying. ;)
Obsidian Butterfly is probably the best of her later books, actually. Mostly because it is less about "Anita and Her Amazing Complicated Love Life" and more about an actual case, with an actual plot and everything. And zombie-raising and vampire-killing to boot. Plus with Edward! I like Edward. :)
