Cho Chang!
May. 10th, 2004 11:02 amYay, Cho!
I'm just glad she's East Asian, since that's what I assumed she'd be with a name like Cho Chang. (I'd heard they were calling for Southeast Asian and was like WTF??) Possibly she could have been Korean rather than Chinese, both would have worked. Anyway, this Katie Leung girl is definitely Chinese with a name like Leung and since her dad's from Hong Kong. Yay!
Very interesting that she hails from Scotland. Always thought of Cho as having an English accent ... but then I thought the same of Oliver Wood, too. Cho/Oliver!! My new OTP. <g>
There are two things I really hope for:
1) That she speak perfect English, because I am tired of seeing the bullshit stereotype that Asian people have must have Asian accents. That's been waning in recent times, but it still happens often enough to piss me off. Not that many Asian people don't, of course, but in this particular case, Cho is British born and bred, so there ought to be no question of her fluency.
2) That she be attractive, because in the books, really only she, Cedric, and I think Fleur have been deliberately called out as being physically attractive. It's part of who they are as characters. Harry, Hermione, Draco, and the rest of them could technically be butt ugly/completely average and it wouldn't matter wrt canon, but the first three I named are supposed to be good looking. What worries me in this regard is that as an Asian person, I often have differing taste from casting directors as to what a pretty Chinese girl ought to look like. Sometimes I see people who are cast and go, "WTF? You couldn't find someone more attractive than that? I KNOW they're out there." Did they even bother to look? This time they had 4,000 people to choose from, so I'm hoping I can live w/ their choice.

Ladies & gentlemen, we have a very special guest for you tonight...Mr. Haaaaaaaahn
Date: 2004-05-10 08:23 pm (UTC)I always had Cho in mind with a North London accent, mainly because I always thought she would have come from some well-off family with a mansion in Highgate.
And trust me, if she's Scottish her English will be far from perfect *g*.

Date: 2004-05-10 09:56 pm (UTC)My love for Chester and Mike has been around a loooong time, but I only recently started looking at Joe in a 'new light'.
Have you seen the Breaking the Habbit video yet? Oooh, and here's a question, which would you say is your favourite LP video?

Date: 2004-05-10 10:02 pm (UTC)Hmmmmm, I don't think I have seen the video for Breaking the Habit! Shock! Horror! Let's say that of the ones I've seen, "In the End" is my favorite. I just love the way it all melds together. Although that one of the suicidal girl looking at herself in the mirror (is it 'Crawling'?) is also v. cool. What's yours?

Date: 2004-05-10 10:27 pm (UTC)Well I know what I'll be buying this weekend.
The BtH vid is pretty damn freaky, they've done the whole thing in anime (the really sketchy type they have in Kill Bill - you can tell I know squat all about anime.)
Hmm my fave...I would have to say Papercut b/c thats one of my favourite songs on Hybrid, and I think the concept of the video goes so well with the idea behind the song. Plus, Chester's trousers and his mohecan are just so frickin cool.
